Nikhil To Contest From Mandya

March 4, 2019 by Nasheman

The stage is set for the political debut of Nikhil Gowda, son of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. The JD(S) leadership, the father-son duo of H D Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy, on Sunday made it apparent that Nikhil would contest from Mandya in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The party’s indication comes days after Sumalatha, wife of late actor-politician Ambareesh, said she aspired to contest from Mandya on a Congress ticket. Nikhil’s candidature will mark the entry of Gowda’s second grandson into electoral politics, as the JD(S) patriarch said in Mangaluru on Sunday that Prajwal Revanna will contest from Hassan.

Defending ‘dynastic politics’, Kumaraswamy said in Shivamogga that there is nothing wrong if politicians’ children enter politics just the way the children of IAS officers follow in their parents’ footsteps. He said Nikhil had expressed his willingness to contest from Mandya, which “will be left to a JD(S) candidate”.

Though Congress and JD(S) have decided to fight the parliamentary polls together, they are yet to finalise a seat-sharing arrangement. The coalition coordination committee will meet on Monday to discuss the issue.

“Some MLAs of Mandya district, considering my achievements, opine that the district will be well developed if someone from my family is fielded in the constituency.“The candidate will be from the JD(S). If Nikhil wants to contest from Mandya, he will not run away to Mysuru. Ours is a family of fighters. We don’t back off. Our family knows the pulse of the people of Mandya,” Kumaraswamy told reporters in Shivamogga.

In Mangaluru, Deve Gowda said he tried to dissuade his grandsons from entering politics but Prajwal started actively working in Hassan.“Now, Nikhil has also started showing keen interest in politics and people urge him to contest from Mandya. He shouldn’t feel that I am promoting only Prajwal, so I have given my consent to him as well,” he said.

Gowda said it was not wrong for anyone to want to contest elections, but Mandya and Hassan were JD(S) bastions. He was replying to a question about Sumalatha too being an aspirant.“It is not that I am promoting family politics. Everyone knows that we are not traditionally a political family but an agrarian one.”Asked about he contesting parliamentary elections, he said that it was not important. He had been a parliamentarian for 27 years and had been a Prime Minister too.

“The ultimate goal is stopping BJP from gaining strength in the state. BJP has no big presence in South India and it is important to stop them from gaining ground,” he said.Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said he always presented himself as the strongest leader and boasted that he had given a stable government. “Even Vajpayee (later former PM) had given a stable government in spite of having a coalition of 23 parties and so did Manmohan Singh for ten years with a coalition,” he said.

During his tenure as prime minister he had visited Kashmir five times and the situation was more peaceful then. In last five years, Kashmir which had seen four governments, had finally come under governor rule.

‘Many factors in my favour’

Nikhil Gowda seems a confident young man. He tells Bansy Kalappa that there are many factors in his favour. “Firstly, all the eight assembly segments have JD(S) MLAs and secondly since we are in a coalition government, there is additional Congress support for my candidature. Thirdly, my father and Chief Minister Kumaraswamy’s connect with the people of Mandya is very good.”

JeM chief Masood Azhar is ‘alive’, says Pakistan media amid reports of his death

March 4, 2019 by Nasheman

The Indian officials said they had no information other than that Azhar was undergoing treatment at an army hospital after suffering renal failure.

Masood Azhar

India’s most wanted terrorist and Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar is “alive”, a Pakistani media report said on Sunday, quoting unnamed sources close to his family.

The media reports claiming that JeM leader is dead are false, Geo Urdu News reported.

The report came amid speculation on social media that JeM founder has died.

However, there was no official confirmation.

Quoting unnamed sources close to the family of the JeM chief, the channel said Azhar is “alive”, without elaborating on his health condition.

There was no official word on Azhar’s fate from the Pakistan government.

“I don’t know anything at this moment,” Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry told media when asked about media reports claiming the death of Azhar.

A resident of Bahawalpur in Pakistan’s Punjab province, Azhar formed the Jaish-e-Mohammed in 2000.

The 50-year-old Azhar, who was released by the NDA government in 1999 in exchange of hostages of the hijacked Indian Airlines plane IC-814, has been accused of being the mastermind of the 2001 Parliament attack, suicide attack on Jammu and Kashmir state assembly, attack on Pathankot IAF base and the latest Pulwama terror strike.

Meanwhile, Intelligence agencies in New Delhi were trying to ascertain reports on social media about the death of Azhar in Pakistan.

The Indian officials said they had no information other than that Azhar was undergoing treatment at an army hospital after suffering renal failure.

Jaish terror group’s Balakot camp, where training was imparted to recruits to carry out suicide attacks, was targeted by the IAF in an air strike last week, following the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

The Indian government has claimed that it achieved spectacular success by destroying the facility.

In an interview to Media, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi earlier admitted that the JeM chief is in his country and is “very unwell”, but said the government can act against him only if India presents “solid” and “inalienable” evidence that can stand in a court of law.

“He is in Pakistan, according to my information. He is unwell to the extent that he can’t leave his house, because he’s really unwell,” Shah Mehmood Qureshi said.

The US, the UK and France have moved a fresh proposal in the UN Security Council to designate Pakistan-based terror group JeM’s chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist, a listing that will subject him to global travel ban, asset freeze and arms embargo.

The proposal was moved Wednesday by the three permanent veto-wielding members of the 15-nation Security Council.

The Security Council Sanctions Committee will have 10 working days to consider the fresh proposal submitted by the three members.

It is the fourth such bid at the UN in the last 10 years to list Azhar as a global terrorist.

Congress, AAP attack BJP for politics on air strikes

March 4, 2019 by Nasheman

[Nasheman news] New Delhi The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party on Monday questioned the BJP and its President Amit Shah for “milking air strikes for politics” and for not trusting the Army.

Responding to Shah’s claim on Sunday that more than 250 terrorists were killed in the February 26 air strike in Balakot in Pakistan, the two parties said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) claims don’t fall in line with the statement made by the Army.

In a tweet, National spokesperson of Congress Manish Tewari said: “AVM RGK Kapoor said “it would be premature to say that what is the number of casualties that we have been able to inflict on those camps and what is the number of deaths,” BUT @AmitShah says over 250 Terrorists killed in airstrike. Is this not milking Air Strikes for Politics????

AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal also questioned Shah’s claim and said Shah is saying that the Army is lying, 250 were dead.

“The Army cannot lie, the BJP is lying. The whole country is with the Army but the BJP is against the Army,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.

“Is Army lying as per Amit Shah? The Army had clearly said that it cannot be said if anyone died or not, (in the air strike). Are BJP and Shah terming Army as liars for their electoral benefit? The nation believes in the Army, does Shah and the BJP don’t believe in the Army?” he questioned in another tweet.

Jamal Khashoggi’s body likely burned in large oven at Saudi home

March 4, 2019 by Nasheman

Jamal Khashoggi's body likely burned in large oven at Saudi home

The body of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was likely burned in a large oven at the Saudi consulate general’s residence in Istanbul, an Al Jazeera investigation revealed.

New details of the writer’s murder by a Saudi assassination team were reported in a documentary by media that aired on Sunday night.

Turkish authorities monitored the burning of the outdoor furnace as bags believed to be carrying Khashoggi’s body parts were transferred to the Saudi consul’s house after he was killed inside the consulate a few hundred metres away.

Media interviewed a worker who constructed the furnace who stated it was built according to specifications from the Saudi consul. It had to be deep and withstand temperatures above 1,000 degrees Celsius – hot enough to melt metal.

Bags of meat were also cooked in the oven after the killing in order to cover up the cremation of the Saudi writer’s body, authorities reported.

Turkish investigators also found traces of Khashoggi’s blood on the walls of the Saudi consul’s office after removing paint that the assassination team applied after killing the Washington Post columnist on October 2, 2018.

The documentary was based on interviews with security officials, politicians, and some of Khashoggi’s Turkish friends.

‘Rogue elements’

A critic of Saudi Arabia’s powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), Khashoggi entered the consulate in Istanbul to obtain paperwork so he could marry his Turkish fiancee, Hatice Cengiz.

Riyadh initially insisted Khashoggi had left the consulate alive before changing its account and admitting the journalist was killed in an operation it said was undertaken by “rogue elements”.

A CIA report said MBS likely ordered Khashoggi’s killing – an allegation Saudi Arabia denies.

Eleven suspects have been indicted for Khashoggi’s murder in Saudi Arabia, which has insisted it would handle the case and refused their extradition to Turkey.

United Nation’s special rapporteur Agnes Callamard, who is leading an international inquiry into the murder, called it “a brutal and premeditated killing, planned and perpetrated by officials of the state of Saudi Arabia”.

The international investigation started in late January and an official report is due in June.

Modi chairs National Security Council meet

March 4, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News :Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a meeting of the National Security Council.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale attended the meeting.

The meeting comes amid a report that Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar getting killed in the bombardment by Indian Air Force (IAF) on a terror camp in Balakot going viral, but there was no confirmation from any authoritative sources.

It also comes after two militants, five security men and a civilian were killed in the 48-hour-long gunfight that ended on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir’s border Kupwara district.

After the IAF carried out air strikes at a massive JeM camp in Balakot in Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province early on Tuesday, the tension between the two countries escalated.

The air strike came 12 days after a CRPF convoy was attacked by a suicide bomber in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, in which 40 security personnel were killed. Pakistan-based JeM claimed responsibility for the attack.

In response, Pakistani aircraft crossed the Line of Control on Wednesday in an attempt to target India’s military installations. While an India MiG-21 was shot down and its pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, captured when he landed in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, a Pakistan Air Force F-16 was also shot down.

The IAF officer returned to India on Friday, a day after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced his release as a “gesture of peace”.

Petrol, diesel prices go up on Sunday

March 4, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News :Transport fuel rates continued to increase on Sunday in tandem with global crude prices, which have been rising following the implementation of output cuts by oil producers from January 1.

State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) increased petrol prices by 13 paise per litre and diesel prices by 14-15 paise across the four metros, as per data from the Indian Oil Corporation.

Petrol price in Delhi was increased to Rs 72.07 per litre on Sunday, while in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai the fuel cost was Rs 77.70, Rs 74.16 and Rs 74.84, respectively.

Similarly, the price of diesel in the national capital went up to Rs 67.41 per litre. In Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai, diesel sold at Rs 69.20, Rs 70.62 and Rs 71.24 a litre, respectively.

Petrol and diesel prices have increased by more than Rs 4 per litre as the crude rates have been rising from January onwards after a prolonged period of fall.

As petroleum products fall outside the ambit of the goods and services tax (GST) and prices vary due to local taxes.

As per the dynamic pricing mechanism, domestic fuel prices depend upon international fuel rates on a 15-day average and the value of the rupee.

22 killed in US tornadoes

March 4, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : At least 22 people were killed in the US state of Alabama as a cluster of storms ripped through the country’s Southeast region, spawning multiple tornadoes and leaving a trail of destruction.

The first tornado warning in central Alabama went out at around 1 p.m. on Sunday. As the storms pushed east, the tornadoes left a path of destruction that stretched from Alabama into Florida and Georgia, reports The New York Times.

The reported deaths were all in Lee County, Alabama, where two tornadoes, one at least a half-mile wide, wrecked homes and uprooted trees.

The East Alabama Medical Centre in Opelika had received more than 60 patients as of Sunday night, said John Atkinson, a spokesman for the centre. He said the conditions of the patients varied.

President Donald Trump said in a tweet on Sunday night that people in and around Alabama should “be careful and safe”.

“Tornadoes and storms were truly violent and more could be coming… To the families and friends of the victims, and to the injured, God bless you all.”

In Georgia, one tornado on Sunday damaged dozens of homes and businesses.

Meredith Wyatt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Birmingham, Alabama, said the strong line of storms moved quickly across the area on Sunday afternoon.

She said it was unclear how many tornadoes touched down but said the service issued at least six warnings on Sunday afternoon.

The service will send teams on Monday to survey the damage to determine the path of the tornadoes, their intensity and how long they stayed on the ground.

In 2011, 230 people were killed after more than 60 tornadoes hit Alabama.
