CM directs electricity dept following coal shortage

October 24, 2018 by Nasheman

Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy told the Energy Department officials to increase power generation from other sources of energy such as Solar and Hydel.

A week after Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy appealed to Union Minister for Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal to ensure a steady supply of coal to the state, he asked Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation not to resort to load shedding just yet. The CM on Tuesday insisted that the state had been writing to the Centre for the last two months on the issue.

Kumaraswamy on Wednesday told Energy Department officials to increase power generation from other sources of energy such as Solar and Hydel. It was earlier reported how Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS), which has a capacity of 1720 MW, was running out of coal due to low supply from the centre. The RTPS is one of three thermal power stations in the state alongside the Ballari Thermal Power Station (BTPS) in Ballari and the Yermarus Thermal Power Station (YTPS) in Raichur. Officials of the RTPS could not be reached for a comment.

As things stand on Wednesday, there is no threat to the regular supply of power, officials claimed. “Right now we have enough generation capacity available. The situation will deteriorate if the Centre does not supply enough coal for a longer time. Right now, there is a shortage of supply but there is no power shortage. If the government of India restores the supply of coal, there would not be any problem,” P Ravi Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary to Karnataka Government Energy Department, told media.

Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) said that till now they have not been asked to undergo load-shedding by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited. “As of now, there is no load-shedding. The power interruption in Bengaluru is due to various reasons related to regular maintenance,” Jayanthi N, General Manager of Bescom, told media.

On Tuesday, Bescom registered a total of 6,314 complaints of power cuts. On Wednesday, too, places like Masjid Road, Govindapura Main Road, Kaggadasapura, Srinivasa Nagar, Banaswadi and Vidyanagar suffered power interruptions.

Malaysia hold India at Asian Champions Trophy

October 24, 2018 by Nasheman

Defending champions India were held to a goalless draw by Malaysia in a fast-paced round robin encounter of the Hero Asian Champions Trophy 2018 here.

Both India and Asian Games Silver medallists Malaysia now have 10 points each from four outings in the preliminary round-robin league, with India topping the standings on basis of a superior goal difference.

The Indian team got off to a nervy start at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex here on Tuesday night and they wasted several scoring opportunities early in the match.

They had a spate of chances early in the contest, only for Hardik Singh to fritter away a scoring opportunity, Harmanpreet Singh’s penalty corner flick being blocked by the Malaysian goalkeeper and Mandeep Singh failing to get a touch on long diagonal balls twice in the first quarter.

Malaysia created one opening on a counter-attack, but mostly fell back to defend their goal against the Indian strikers.

In the second half the Indian strikers were not allowed space to enter the circle until the closing stages, when they forced two penalty corners but could not produce a goal-bearing shot.

This was a period when Malaysia were down to 10 players as Tengku Tajuddin was shown the yellow card for a deliberate foul on Indian captain Manpreet Singh.

Nilakanta Sharma missed the target by inches in one of the combined Indian raids.

Indian Chief Coach Harendra Singh rued the missed chances after the match.

“I am not happy. We cannot miss chances like this in international hockey,” said Harendra.

Malaysia coach Roelant Oltmans said his team faced a tough time when they were down to 10 players due to Tajuddin’s yellow card.

“We came under some pressure in the last phase after the yellow card. Otherwise, the game was more of less what we expected,” Oltmans said.

India will play their fifth round robin match against South Korea on Thursday.

Rajnath, Sitharaman, Gadkari and Maneka on govt’s #MeToo panel

October 24, 2018 by Nasheman

he Modi government created a four-member Group of Ministers (GoM) Wednesday to battle sexual harassment at the workplace.

Rajnath Singh will chair the GoM, which also comprises Nirmala Sitharaman, Maneka Gandhi and Nitin Gadkari. They will recommend ways to effectively implement existing legal and institutional frameworks, and to strengthen them.

The #MeToo movement, a global movement against sexual misconduct, has exploded in India. Several high-profile public figures have been named. One of them, MJ Akbar, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by several women, resigned from his post as a cabinet minister.

He denies the charges against him, and has filed a defamation case against his first accuser, senior journalist Priya Ramani.

India has taken steps to crack down on sexual offences in recent weeks. Last month, the government launched a sex offender registry, as well as a second portal which citizens can use to complain anonymously about online content such as child porn.

It has also launched an electronic complaint box so women can complain about sexual harassment at the workplace.

Modi govt destroying institutions like CBI : CM Chandrababu Naidu

October 24, 2018 by Nasheman

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on October 23 hit out at Narendra Modi’s government at the Centre, alleging that the government has been destroying institutions, referring to the ongoing saga at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“Today we have seen (how) they are messing with CBI,” Naidu said on sidelines of a public event in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. “Democracy is at stake, secularism in danger, economy collapsed, institutions are destroyed , Centre-state relations have deteriorated,” he alleged.

India’s premier investigation agency is currently grappling with the worst-ever credibility crisis due to an internal feud between two high-ranking officials — special director Rakesh Asthana and director Alok Verma, who are slamming each other over graft.

Naidu said that 44 of his Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members were raided for seeking special category status for the state.

GST fraud : CA and two associates arrested

October 24, 2018 by Nasheman

A Chartered Accountant (CA) and two of his associates on Monday night were arrested for allegedly evading Rs 50 crore of Goods and Services Tax (GST). The three were arrested from their office in Noida Sector 63 and were produced before a special chief judicial magistrate court in Meerut. They were remanded to judicial custody after having been booked under 2017’s GST Act’s Section 132 (1) A.

Director General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) detectives from the Ghaziabad regional unit apprehended the accused and took them to the Meerut headquarters. As per Special Public Prosecutor Lakshay Kumar Singh, the accused were identified as Akhilesh Sharma, Advocate Rahul Jain and CA Madhusudan Pandey. Sharma was reportedly appointed as a director in several bogus companies.

The accused along with a dozen others were involved in the fake billing of more than 20 firms reportedly. As per officials, Pandey confessed to having committed the crime and said that he and Jain used to provide clients to Sharma for fake invoices, in exchange of commission.

An officer, at the condition of anonymity, explained their modus operandi to TOI and said that via bogus companies registered with GST, the accused issued tax invoices for even those companies that did not supply or deal with any goods or services. These invoices were then sold to clients in need, leading to wrongful utilisation of input tax credit.

Sandalwood actors condemn allegations against Sarja

October 24, 2018 by Nasheman

Sandalwood actor Jaggesh and actress Harshika Poonacha openly questioned the motive behind #MeToo movement in the industry.

Jaggesh spoke in support of actor Arjun Sarja, while Harshika targeted actresses using their femininity as a tool for publicity on her Facebook wall by dubbing their effort “#metooforpublicity”.

Jaggesh told that Sarja is a simple man just like Dr Rajkumar and Dr Vishnuvardhan. He is very polite and well behaved actor.

I stand for women but I also feel that Shruti would should have raised the issue when the incident took place.

Harshika Poonacha condemned the actors who are raising their voice against the issue after so many days.

In a Facebook post, Harshika wrote, “Most of these so called activist actresses do everything when they badly need a push in the initial stages of their careers (get cast in good films, make money, network, travel, luxurious life etc).

“By giving all the freedom to these men, they now accuse (them) for publicity. They start targeting the same men (with whom) they were smiling and walking hand in hand! I personally have seen these so called great activist actresses smoking ganja, having a great time in their song shoots in foreign countries, falling on famous men (actors from other industries, producers, real estate barons etc at big award functions in Malaysia, Dubai, Singapore etc) and doing things that I do not want to mention here.”
