“Nature and Beyond” Solo show by Pavitha Ashwin

October 15, 2018 by Nasheman

“Nature and Beyond” is a series devoted to Pavitha’s connection to Nature and her journey as an artist. Her sense of realism, coupled with motes of perceptive and conceptual innovation, lend a touch of ethereal beauty and peace to these works. Predominantly Oil on Canvas, each work is a labor of love and a testament to her constant quest to learn.

These artworks have been curated by noted artist, Bharathi Sagar – who is a recipient of several awards, the Lalit Kala Parishad Best Award in 1987 and 1988 in Andhra Pradesh, First prize for Seascape Spot Painting (in Vishakapatnam in 1989 and also the Chitra Kala Parishad State Award.

About Pavitha Ashwin:

Pavitha Ashwin hails from Kodagu, a beautiful and verdant piece of heaven on Earth situated in the South of India. Also known as the Scotland of India, Kodagu is famous for its breathtaking sceneries, coffee plantations and their people – the Kodavas. Kodavas have a rich culture, are very connected to nature and their rituals and way of life symbolize this connection deeply.
This same connection to nature is a common thread through Pavitha’s paintings.
She specializes in realism in her paintings and her incredibly detailed work is her signature. Her chosen mediums are oil and acrylic, mostly on canvas. She has a background in Interior Design, and has a very good eye for colors, contrasts, textures and design which she picked up while studying in Art Institute of Dallas.

She stays in Bangalore and works out of her home studio. She has over 12 years of experience in painting, and her body of work comprises over 40+ artworks.
Like many self-taught artists, Pavitha’s journey started with one painting – “The Teapot” (Oil on Canvas, dated 2006). It was a challenge due to the intricacy, details and the metallic texture that had to be rendered with care. This painting was a success, and from that point she has not looked back
Each subject that Pavitha paints on is something that she is emotionally connected to, and each of her artworks reveal many layers and depths. Some of her favorite subjects are birds, tigers and big cats, dreamy landscapes and flowers.
Exhibition History:
“The Peace Series” was a series of work (Acrylic on Canvas) which was displayed during the WARP (World Alliance of Peace) Summit in Seoul, South Korea between 17th to 19th of September 2018. This was in collaboration with SCEAD foundation. Pavitha was the only artist whose work was exhibited at this summit, and was very well received. She emoted various scenes of war, despair, hopelessness in each canvas, with doves in each work depicting a sense of hope and peace for the future.
“The Goobe Series” (Eye of the Owl) is a stellar set of work (Acrylic on Canvas) devoted to the expressions of Owls, focusing on their eyes. This series was exhibited at Pavitha’s first exhibition at the Gallerie Crescent, Hotel Bangalore, between 18th to 25th November 2017 as part of “The Thought Spectrum”. With expressions from Pride, Confusion, Anger and others – the Owls are depicted with a range of emotions commonly associated with humans, but which look thoroughly natural and completely in place through the Owl’s faces. Pavitha believes that the souls of any living being is captured within the expression in their eyes – in short, the eyes are the gateway to the soul. With an almost monochrome-finish, Pavitha has made the eyes of the owls the center of attention in each of the canvases.
Artist Statement:
“The ability to draw inspiration from my environment and imagination, and bring them to life through application of brush and colours on canvas is something amazing, and very humbling at the same time. My art is my spiritual connection to the Universe”

Three Kashmiri students nabbed in Punjab with AK-47, explosives

October 10, 2018 by Nasheman

In a joint operation, the Punjab Police and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested three students after busting a terror module of Kashmiri terror outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH) in Punjab’s Jalandhar city.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora said in Chandigarh that the students were nabbed from the hostel of CT Institute of Engineering Management and Technology, located in Shahpur on the outskirts of Jalandhar city.

The joint team, which conducted a raid at the hostel early this morning, also recovered two weapons, including an assault rifle, as well as explosives from the hostel room of B. Tech (Civil) Student of second semester Zahid Gulzar of Rajpora. Zahid was detained along with Mohd Idriss Shah and Yusuf Rafiq Bhatt, both of Pulwama, a statement from the DGP said.

The DGP said the arrests followed the development and corroboration of various leads and inputs about the presence and activities of certain militant organisations and individuals operating in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.

A case under sections 121, 121-A and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act and the Explosive Act has been registered, the statement said.

“Further investigations are in progress and the Punjab Police is working closely with J&K Police to unravel the entire conspiracy and network built by these outfits/individuals in Punjab and J&K,” the DGP said.

Arora said the busting of the terror module and the recovery of weapons in Jalandhar was indicative of efforts by Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) to expand the arc of militancy on India’s western border.

The Punjab Police had recently picked up a student, Gazi Ahmad Malik of Shopian (in Jammu and Kashmir), from Banur in Patiala district where he was studying in Aryans Group Polytechnic College.

Gazi was closely related to Adil Bashir Sheikh, a J&K Police Special Police Officer (SPO) who had fled with seven rifles from the residence of a PDP MLA in Srinagar and was suspected to have joined the militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.

Gazi was later handed over to J&K Police for further investigation.
