Nasheman News : Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) legislator Shyam Bahadur Singh on Monday resigned from the party’s primary membership here, saying his voice was not being heard by those in power while the district administration has also turned a deaf ear.
“I have resigned from JD-U as neither district administration officers in Siwan nor the top brass of the government in Patna listen to my genuine complaints.
“What pains me is that police has been acting against all those people opposing auction of the government land to land mafia,” Singh said.
He questioned the much-hyped governance and rule of law claim made by the Nitish Kumar-led government and raised the auction of government land to alleged land mafia despite opposition from people in Siwan district.
However, JD-U state president Vashisht Narain Singh said Shyam Bahadur Singh is a senior party leader, his concern would be genuine and party would look into it.
Singh had earlier embarrassed the party and the government by shaking a leg with bar dancers at various marriage ceremonies.

2 women stopped 1km from Sabarimala, police lathi-charge protesters
[Nasheman news] SabarimalaTwo Kerala women devotees from the the hitherto banned age group were stopped barely one kilometre from the Sabarimala temple on Monday by thousands of protesters, who had to be lathi-charged by the police as tension broke out here.
The incident came a day after 11 women from Tamil Nadu had to be sent back in the face of steep protests mounted by traditional Lord Ayyappa devotees.
Trouble broke out early on Monday, when police accompanying the two women clashed with angry pilgrims after they created hurdles for the two women devotees, who are below the age of 50, from proceeding ahead for their darshan.
The police had to resort to lathi-charge and shield Bindu from Malappuram and Kanaka Durga from Kannur as angry Ayyappa devotees chanted slogans and approached them menacingly.
The 100-men from the police team managed to take the two up the pathway but have been stuck since 8 a.m. about one kilometre from the shrine as more than a thousand pilgrims have created a wall, chanting Ayyappa hymns and shouting slogans — determined not to allow the two to go any further.
The policemen shielding the women are waiting for more police force to arrive before they move forward.
Speaking to the media, Bindu, an advocate, said Sabarimala tantris are not above the Supreme Court.
“I want to pray at the temple and I don’t think the law of tantri is above the law of the land,” said Bindu.
The temple town has witnessed protests by Hindu groups since the September 28 Supreme Court verdict that allowed women of all ages to enter the temple, including those from the hitherto banned age group of 10 to 50 years.
Ever since the verdict, around three dozen women from the hitherto banned age group have tried and failed to go up the pathway leading to the temple, following protest from the believers.
On Sunday, 11 women from Tamil Nadu in that age group failed to reach the temple, after massive protests broke out against them forcing the police and the women to flee to safety.
Hindu outfit wants to ban new year celebrations in Bangalore
Two years ago, on the night of December 31 on MG Road and Brigade Road, several women were allegedly molested and groped and lewd remarks passed by miscreants.
BENGALURU: A right-wing Hindu outfit has appealed to police to ban new year celebrations on the city’s signature locations like MG Road and Brigade Road on December 31 to “protect the sanctity of Bengaluru.”
In a two-page memorandum to Bengaluru police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti coordinator Mohan Gowda said “western culture has spoilt the present generation, where boys and girls drink, smoke and perform vulgar dance in an inebriated state which instigates criminals for eve-teasing.”
Gowda recalled how some women were allegedly molested en masse two years ago bringing a bad name to the city internationally.
“The most concerning matter is that there is a growing number of young boys, girls and women taking part in the celebrations in an inebriated state, which shows the decline of values among the youth of India today,” Gowda rued in his memorandum.
Gowda urged police to ban such new year revelries.

Himachal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu front runners in SDG index: NITI Aayog
Nasheman News : Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have come out as the front runners in implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) targets, as per a NITI Aayog report released on Friday.
The government’s premier think tank has developed the country’s first SDG India Index to document the progress made by India’s states and Union Territories towards meeting SDG targets and released a baseline report for 2018.
Along with the three states, the UTs of Chandigarh and Puducherry were also among the front runners on the SDG India Index with a score between 65 to 99 on a scale of 0 to 100, where 100 signifies that it has achieved the 2030 national targets.
“The SDG India Index baseline report 2018 highlights the progress being made by states and UTs in moving towards multiple targets of the SDGs, in the true spirit of cooperative and competitive federalism,” NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said.
The SDGs are ambitious global development goals that address key aspects of universal wellbeing across different socio-economic, cultural, geographical divisions and integrate the economic, social and environmental dimensions of development.
“By ranking its states and UTs, India has become the first country to create a composite SDG index to measure progress on SDG targets at the sub-national level,” NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said.
The Index has been developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Global Green Growth Institute and United Nations in India.
“Himachal Pradesh ranks high on providing clean water and sanitation, in reducing inequalities and preserving mountain ecosystem. Kerala’s top rank is attributed to its superior performance in providing good health, reducing hunger, achieving gender equality and providing quality education.
“Chandigarh leads because of its exemplary performance in providing clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, generating decent work and economic growth and providing quality education,” the report said.
While most of the states and UTs, 28 in all, were in the ‘Performer’ category with index scores being between 50 and 64, only three states Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were in the bottom-most category of ‘Aspirant’ having a score between 0 to 49.
The Index tracks progress of all states and UTs on 62 priority indicators selected by NITI Aayog, which in turn is guided by MoSPI’s National Indicator Framework comprising 306 indicators and based on multiple-round consultations with ministries and states.
The indicators will be further refined and additional indicators will be added with improvement in data collection, reporting processes and methodology, the report said.
“NITI Aayog is also exploring potential for disaggregating data and developing capacity for real time monitoring and measuring incremental progress,” it added.

GST rate change 28% removed for 7 Items
GST, the government’s biggest tax reform, sets rates from 28 per cent to 5 per cent on most items, replacing an array of central and state duties.
To simplify the indirect tax regime, the government moved most goods to a reduced GST rate.
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council removed seven items from the 28 per cent tax bracket, the government said in a statement on Saturday. Six items – such as pulleys gear boxes, monitors and TVs (up to 32 inches), digital cameras and video game consoles – moved from 28 per cent to 18 per cent while one item – parts and accessories for carriages for people with disabilities – moved from 28 per cent to 5 per cent, the release added. Now, the 28 per cent slab is restricted to only luxury and sin goods, apart from auto parts and cement — tax rates on which could not be cut due to the high revenue implication. The new GST rates will be effective from January 1, 2019, Finance Ministry Arun Jaitley said while briefing reporters after the 31st GST Council meeting.
The GST Council has also removed four items from 18 per cent slab. Total four items have been moved from 12 per cent slab while three items have been moved to 5 per cent such as natural cork and walking stick
GST rate reduction will have an overall impact on revenue of Rs. 5500 crore, said Mr Jaitley.
Due date for GST annual return and audit report has also been extended till June 30, 2019.

Somali militant group Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the latest attack.

Without the encounters, Modi’s life was at stake: Vanzara
Nasheman News : Controversial retired IPS officer DG Vanzara on Friday asserted that had it not been for the “genuine encounters” by the Gujarat police, Pakistan might have been successful in its design to assassinate the then chief minister and now Prime Minister Narendra Modi and turn the state into another Kashmir.
In a statement after the special CBI’s court’s judgement in the Sohrabuddin-Tulsiram Prajapti encounter case in Mumbai on Friday, Vanzara, who was earlier an accused in the case, said the police personnel of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh were made scapegoats in the “political war” between the then BJP government in the state and the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.
“The CBI court’s judgement acquitting all the 22 accused police officers in the Sohrabuddin encounter case has only corroborated the claims I had been making right from the beginning that none of these encounters was stage-managed but were all genuine to annihilate the Pakistan-sponsored terrorists who had been coming to Gujarat with the mission to kill Modiji.
“But for the encounters, it might have become difficult to ensure the safety of Modiji and Pakistan by now would have succeeded in turning Gujarat into another terrorist-ridden Kashmir,” he said.
Vanzara, who was initially a prime accused in the Sohrabuddin-Kausar Bi alleged fake encounter case but was exonerated by the special CBI court three years back, held some “anti-national elements” were responsible for turning the genuine encounter incidents into fake ones to assist the terror groups and harass the honest police officers.
He claimed that the Gujarat police had accurate information about the movements of the Pakistan-sponsored terrorists and acted swiftly to “ensure the safety of the country and protect the life of the then chief minister who was under constant threat.”
Meanwhile, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel hailed the CBI court’s judgment and accused the former UPA government of trying to tarnish the Modi dispensation in Gujarat in the name of “fake encounter.”
Patel also promised to consider restoration of the genuine promotions and other benefits due to the accused police officers in the last 13 years because of the pending case, now that they had been acquitted of all the charges.
