Nasheman News : India skipper Virat Kohli was on Tuesday named captain of both the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Test and ODI Teams of the Year following his remarkable show in 2018 both as batsman and skipper.
According to an ICC statement, pacer Jasprit Bumrah is the other Indian to make it to both the sides while stumper Rishabh Pant is the third Indian to find a place in the Test Team of the Year.
Besides Kohli and Bumrah, opener Rohit Sharma and chinaman Kuldeep Yadav are the other Indians to be named in the ICC ODI Team of the Year.
The awards, which honour performances during a calendar year, saw Kohli walk into both sides which were selected by the ICC Voting Academy comprising former players, members of the media and broadcasters.
Kohli’s 1,322 runs at an average of 55.08 with five centuries in 13 Tests and 1,202 runs at an astounding average of 133.55 with six hundreds in 14 ODIs saw him selected to both sides by every voting member of the Academy with the majority of them also opting to name him at the helm of each.
Kohli also ended 2018 as the top-ranked Test and ODI batsman in the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings while his side finished the year as the top-ranked side in Tests and number two behind England in ODIs.
Reacting to the news, an elated Kohli said: “It has been an amazing year. I was able to play in a manner that I would not have imagined. If the intention is right and you keep working hard, the results are there in front of your own eyes.
“The intent has always been to help your team at any cost, that is when these performances come by and you are pushing yourself to the limit, which you otherwise will not be able to. That is something I experienced in 2018 a lot,” he added.
Meanwhile, besides the three Indians — Kohli, Bumrah and Pant — New Zealand also has three players in the Test squad — captain Kane Williamson, Henry Nicholls and opener Tom Latham.
Five other nations make up the remainder of the Test team — Dimuth Karunaratne (Sri Lanka), Jason Holder (Windies), top-ranked Kagiso Rabada (South Africa), Nathan Lyon (Australia) and Mohammad Abbas (Pakistan).
Similarly in the ODI team, besides the four Indians, England also have four players — Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes.
Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman, top-ranked Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) and Ross Taylor (New Zealand) complete the ICC ODI XI.

Trump made 8,158 false or misleading claims in two years
WNasheman News :Two years after taking the oath of office, US President Donald Trump has made 8,158 false or misleading claims, according to The Washington Post’s database.
The daily’s Fact Checker’s database analyses, categorises and tracks every suspect statement uttered by the President, it said in the report on Monday.
In 2018, he made an “astonishing” 6,000-plus such claims.
The President averaged nearly 5.9 false or misleading claims a day in his first year in office, but he hit nearly 16.5 a day in his second year, almost triple the pace.
The Washington Post started the Fact Checker online project as part of its coverage of the President’s first 100 days, “largely because we could not possibly keep up with the pace and volume of the President’s misstatements”.
The project’s interactive graphic displays a running list of every false or misleading statement made by Trump. A reader can also search for specific claims or obtain monthly or daily totals.
According to Fact Checker, the President in his first 100 days made 492 unsupported claims.
He managed to top that number just in the first three weeks of 2019.
Before the midterm elections in October, he made more than 1,200 false or misleading claims.
The biggest source of misleading claims is immigration, with a tally that has grown with the addition of 300 immigration claims in the past three weeks, for a total of 1,433, the Fact Checker said.
In the President’s immigration address on January 19, the last day of his second year in office, there were 12 false or misleading claims.
According to Fact Checker, there were only 82 days or about 11 per cent of the time that there were recorded no claims.
“These were often days when the President golfed,” it added.
BJP accuses TMC of vandalising posters ahead of Shah’s rally
Nasheman News : The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers of vandalising posters and decorative gates ahead of party chief Amit Shah’s rally here.
“Gates, welcome arches, posters, cut-outs, festoons have been vandalised ahead of our national president’s rally. Gates have set on fire. Vehicles carrying our supporters are being stopped in many places,” state BJP President Dilip Ghosh said.
BJP supporters and activists were threatened and harassed so that they could not attend the programme, he alleged.
“Despite all these, our supporters are active and the process of ‘paribartan’ (change) has been started,” he added.
After high drama over denial of permission for facilitating the landing of Shah’s chopper in Malda, the state’s BJP leadership said that they finally received the clearance at two places in the district.
The BJP received permission to land the chopper at the helipads in Golden Park Hotel here and the one used by the Border Security Force in Malda district.

he founded Sri Siddaganga Education Society where thousands of students, mostly from villages and under privileged sections, are now educated
.Shivakumara Swami’s 111 years will be remembered as a life dedicated to simplicity, learning and service to society.

“Siddaganga Seer Sheds His Mortal Coil”.
Top political leaders mourned the death of the Lingayat seer; rivals Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa united in expressing their grief and addressed the media jointly.
Shivakumara Swamiji, the 111-year-old Siddaganga seer, passed away on Monday morning after age-related ailments.
The Karnataka government has announced a state holiday on Tuesday after death of prominent Lingayat seer Shivakumara Swamiji on Monday.Shivakumara was a prominent seer of the Tumakuru-based Siddaganga Math.Known as the Walking God, the 111-year old seer was revered by millions of his followers. The Siddaganga Education Society, which was founded by the seer, in a statement said Swamiji “left for the heavenly abode leaving his mortal body at 11.44 am”.
Considered a ‘walking god’ by those who follow him, or who admire his contribution to children across communities over the last eight decades, the Lingayat seer Siddaganga Sri Shivakumara Swamiji Passed away on January 21, 2019 at the age, mutt officials says, of almost 112 years.
The Siddaganga mutt, under his guidance, educated and hosted lakhs of students from economically deprived backgrounds.
His passing will leave Karnataka’s Lingayat community in mourning, along with others who loved him for his service from dasoha or anna dana (offering food) to vidya dana (offering education) free of cost to generations of students.
In December 2018, the Swamiji underwent a liver transplant at a private hospital in Chennai. His health hung in the balance until his passing on January 21.
A junior pontiff of the Siddaganga Mutt, Siddalinga Swamiji, is expected to take over the leadership and continue the works initiated by Sri Shivakumara Swamiji.
Guidance without political ends
The Lingayat community is the largest in Karnataka, making the 600-year-old Siddaganga mutt a centre of immense political power. Many a politician – both from the state and the Centre – have arrived at its doorstep, in Tumkur, about 70 km from Bengaluru.
The seer welcomed every leader, but brushed off any request to endorse a single party.
The swami was born in Magadi taluk around Bengaluru (then in the kingdom of Mysuru), and was inducted into the Siddaganga mutt in his early years. It is the stuff of modern legend in the state, how a boy born into a family of agriculturists grew up to become a beloved name among those whom he served and stood for.
The Swami took over the leadership of the Siddaganga mutt in 1930. The mutt was low on resources in those days, but the swami had a clear vision of education as the community’s road to emancipation.
As the mutt gained prominence and influence, he epitomised values that shaped the Lingayat dharma: service to humankind, imparting education to create awareness, treating all as equal and staying away from explicit political power.
The rare occasion on which the Siddaganga Swamiji did voice his opinion was the day the Babri Masjid was demolished. While others weighed their options about speaking against volatile sentiments, he condemned it in no uncertain words.
Even so, for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, the Gandhis across generations, former President Abdul Kalam and every Karnataka chief minister, it has been mandatory to visit and seek an audience with the seer.
A long lifetime of service
Instead of using its influence on politics, the mutt has run numerous colleges – for engineering, business management, nursing and pharmacy, teacher training and more – alongside Sanskrit and Kannada schools, and scores of primary and high schools along with pre-university campuses across the state.
He was conferred with Padma Bhushan and Karnataka Ratna. In recent years, his name has been strongly recommended by Karnataka politicians, across party lines, for the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.
Even today, the mutt exhibits those principles of simplicity and service; it is devoid of any luxury. In his healthy days, until just a few months ago, the seer gave darshan to his devotees through the day. All were served prasada (meals) with no exclusion by caste or gender.
In addition, 8,500 students studying in the school and colleges on the premises are provided with food and education free of cost. According to mutt documents, the requirement of groceries on a typical day are 2,000 kg rice, 1,000 kg ragi flour, 200 kg tur dal, 200 kg vegetables, 200 kg onions, 400 kg cream of wheat, 50 kg salt, 50 kg curry and chilly powder, 60 kg tamarind, 25 kg green chillis, 300 litres each of milk and butter milk, 80 kg groundnut oil and 150 coconuts.
This volume shoots up by more than ten times on occasions such as the village fair organised by the mutt, when the kitchens run for 24 hours each day. Everything was contributed by community leaders and the students who are from poor background, are not charged anything. In fact, they receive support and monetary help from mutt well-wishers should they decide to follow higher educational goals.
The seer’s body was kept on a platform for people to pay their last respects after being brought on a palanquin in a grand procession around the Sree Siddaganga Mutt. A thick security blanket has been thrown all over the district, especially in and around the mutt.
Siddaganga Mutt Pontiff Shivakumara Swami had visited Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi in 1968.
In fact, it was the first time that a Lingayat seer had visited Sri Krishna Temple,” recalled Vishwesha Teertha Swami.
Condoling the death of the seer, Pejawar seer said, “The death of Shivakumara Swamiji has saddened me. He had immensely contributed to education and is a model for all the Mutt heads. Karmayogi Siddaganga seer’s life itself is a miracle.
alimaru Mutt Pontiff Vidyadeesha Swami said, “Siddaganga seer’s work in the field of education is exemplary. Through ‘Annadana,’ he has helped thousands of poor people. The death of the seer is a great loss to the society.
Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade said that Siddaganga seer had visited Dharmasthala several times in the past and had a great respect and love for Dharmasthala Kshetra. Heggade said, “Siddaganga Mutt had brought changes in the lives of lakhs of students through education. He had given equal opportunities to all and had guided the students in self employment. Getting motivated from the seer, many had started mutts and schools in villages, which led to revolution in the field of education.

Some banks to soon come out of RBI’s PCA framework: Official
Nasheman News : The government along with the RBI are soon expected to work out some relaxations in the central bank’s Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework for banks struggling with huge accumulated non-performing assets (NPAs or bad loans), a senior official said on Monday.
Currently, 11 banks with high bad debts are under the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) PCA framework that prohibits them from further lending and the official said that the relaxation will be available only to those lenders that have shown substantial improvement in dealing with bad loans.
With the aid of the relaxations, some of the banks with improved performance may be able to exit the PCA framework as early as next month, he added.
The official pointed to the recapitalisation undertaken last month of state-run banks, ten of whom are under the PCA framework and said some banks have shown improvement both on recoveries as well as on de-risking their portfolios.
The government last month obtained parliamentary sanction for issuing additional recapitalisation bonds of Rs 41,000 crore.
Tabling the supplementary demand for grants in this regard in the Lok Sabha last month, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the government will infuse Rs 83,000 crore in public sector banks (PSBs) in the remaining part of the fiscal taking the total recapitalisation of banks during the year to Rs 1.06 lakh crore.
Following this, Jaitley had told reporters here that he expected a few PSBs to exit the PCA framework.
“Providing capital to better performing PCA banks to achieve 9 per cent capital to risk weighted asset ratio; 1.875 per cent Capital Conservation Buffer and the six per cent net NPA threshold, facilitating them to come out of PCA,” Jaitley said.
Financial Services Secretary Rajeev Kumar told reporters here last month that the capital infusion will help at least four banks meet their regulatory capital norms.
“We have made provisions to give capital to 4-5 banks depending on performance and on the Q2 and Q3 results. The figures will be decided later but there are chances that we equip at least 3 to 5 banks to meet the norms,” he said.
“The NPAs recognition is complete, recapitalisation is in full swing, it has been enhanced further, recovery is also in full swing, the last H1 (April-September 2018) recovery is to the tune of Rs 60,726 crore,” he had added.
Addressing an investors roundtable at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in Gandhinagar last week, new RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said that after reaching a peak of 11.5 per cent in March 2018, the gross NPAs ratio of Banks improved to 10.8 per cent in September 2018.
“As per the current assessment of the Reserve Bank, the ratio may further improve to 10.3 per cent by March 2019,” he added.
Vested interests behind ‘harassment of taxpayers’ charge: CBDT
Nasheman News : Amid reports of en masse issue of prosecution notices to small companies, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Monday clarified that there had been no mass harassment by the Income Tax Department as it had filed only 1,400 prosecutions during the current fiscal for various offences under the Income Tax Act.
It said the Mumbai Income Tax TDS (Tax Deduction at Source) office had issued prosecution show-cause notices only in a limited number of big cases where over Rs 5 lakh of tax was collected as TDS from employees and the same was not deposited with the Income Tax Department in time.
The remarks came after Congress leader and former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram alleged that department’s “overzealousness” to prosecute taxpayers for failure to deposit TDS amounted to “tax terrorism”.
The CBDT said that some defaulter companies and vested interests were deliberately misleading the media to thwart action against themselves.
“Having deducted tax from employees and other taxpayers and not depositing the same in time in the government treasury is an offence punishable under the law. It also affects the interest of the employees from whose salary the tax has been deducted by the unscrupulous employers,” it said.
It added that in the last one month, only in 50 big cases prosecution notices had been issued, out of which, in 80 per cent of the cases the TDS tax default was above Rs 10 lakh and in 10 per cent cases, it was between Rs 5 and Rs 10 lakh.
“In the remaining 10 per cent cases, TDS default is of more than Rs 1 crore… Prosecutions have also recently been launched against four big business houses where more than Rs 50 crore of tax was collected by them from the taxpayers and yet not deposited with the government in time,” it said.
The CBDT said that such “legal and rightful action” was being projected by the vested interests as if the department was going overboard to harass small employers.
“It would be pertinent to note that in a country of 130 crore people where around six crore returns are filed every year, only a total of 1,400 prosecutions have been filed so far for various offences under the Income Tax Act during this financial year.
“This, by any stretch of imagination, cannot be termed as mass harassment by the Income Tax Department. Therefore, to say that prosecution notices en masse have been sent to taxpayers for minor defaults is completely incorrect and misleading,” the CBDT added.
Kamala Harris to run for US President in 2020
Nasheman News : Democrat Kamala Harris, the first Indian-American to serve in the US Senate, launched her campaign for the White House on Monday while appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America.
In a brief video from her campaign that was released on the social media at the same time she appeared on the show, Harris called on her supporters to join with her to “claim our future”. She made the announcement on Monday — America’s Martin Luther King Jr Day holiday — to honour the legacy of her hero.
The 54-year-old portrayed herself as a fighter for justice, decency and equality in the video.
“They’re the values we as Americans cherish, and they’re all on the line now,” Harris said.
“The future of our country depends on you and millions of others lifting our voices to fight for our American values… That’s why I’m running for President of the US. I’m running to lift those voices, to bring our voices together.”
Harris’ announcement followed the entrance of her fellow senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York in the presidential race.
She is the daughter of an Indian mother and Jamaican father who met in Berkeley, California, at the height of the civil rights movement.
Harris said the time had come to fight against what she called “the injustices of the past two years of the Donald Trump presidency”. She has accused Trump of stoking racist and xenophobic rhetoric, while aligning his administration with white supremacists at home, and cozying up to dictators abroad.
She said that the needs of the middle class had been ignored, citing the federal shutdown over the President’s “vanity project” — a border wall — as the latest example.
The Senator had earlier turned up the heat on the President by blasting his insistence on holding out for funding for his border wall before reopening the government — comparing his behaviour to how her 11-year-old godson might have behaved with his toy train.
Harris’ campaign will be headquartered in Baltimore – giving aides an East Coast hub in a racially diverse city that has struggled with wide income disparities – and Oakland, where Harris was born to immigrant parents who came to the US to advance their academic careers, CNN reported.
She began her career as a deputy district attorney in Alameda county, California, before becoming District Attorney of San Francisco, where she focused on crime prevention.
In 2010, she narrowly beat her Republican opponent to become California’s Attorney General. Six years later, she was elected to the Senate, where she became the second black woman ever to serve in the chamber.
Jaitley to be back to present Budget on Feb 1
Nasheman News : Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who is in the US for a medical check up, will return home on Friday, well ahead of the Budget presentation on February 1, official sources said.
“The Finance Minister is set to return on the evening of January 25,” said a senior official. “The interim budget will be presented by him for sure,” he said. He added that the process for printing of Budget documents began on Monday.
Jaitley, 66, left for the US on January 13 for what was believed to be a medical check-up relating to his kidney ailment. He had undergone a renal transplant surgery in May 2018.
However, there has been wide speculation that he may not be able to return early to present the interim budget, which will be his last before the general elections this year.
Jaitley had recently hinted that it may not be a simple interim budget or vote on account, which is generally the tradition in an election year. The full budget is presented by the new government after the elections.
“Ordinarily, there should be no reason why we should move away from that convention but there is a larger interest of the economy that always dictate what goes into that interim budget,” he said on Thursday.
Informed sources said that the government may roll out schemes to help increase farmers’ income, reduce farm input costs and raise credit flow to farmers.

Choksi opts for Antigua & Barbuda citizenship
Nasheman News : Posing fresh complications for India, absconder diamantaire Mehul Choksi, one of the prime accused in the Rs 13,500 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud, has surrendered his Indian citizenship in favour of Antigua & Barbuda Isles in the West Indies, official sources said on Monday.
Choksi, 59, acquired his new citizenship in 2018 and then subsequently deposited his cancelled Indian Passport No. Z3396732 and a mandatory fee of $177 for the other formalities, with the Indian High Commission in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
The Indian High Commission in Cooperative Republic of Guyana is also accredited to the Antigua & Barbuda and St. Kitts & Nevis.
Contacted by media in Mumbai, Choksi’s lawyers declined to comment saying they were no longer in touch with him.
Sources in the national capital said that despite the latest developments, the Indian government will continue its pursuit of Choksi with the government of Antigua & Barbuda through diplomatic and legal channels.
Choksi, along with his 47-year-old nephew Nirav Modi, are among many others charged with conniving with certain bank officials to dupe the PNB of over Rs 13,500 crore by issuing fake Letters of Undertakings (LoUs) to their group companies through the PNB’s flagship Brady House Branch.
The development could present new hassles for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which was hoping for his extradition along with Nirav Modi and other relatives who are believed to be holed up in different countries.
Weeks before, the PNB first admitted to the massive scam on February 14, 2018, Choksi and Modi besides many of their family members had surreptitiously fled the country, virtually catching the investigating agencies napping.
Before the fraud exploded in the public domain, the PNB had already lodged complaints with the Enforcement Director (ED) and the CBI in Mumbai seeking their help.
As per the PNB’s admission, a total of more than 1,200 LoUs were issued to Choksi, Modi and their relatives and group companies with the CBI chargesheet in Mumbai naming them plus other employees, top PNB officials and executives.
The ED and CBI cracked the whip with raids on the homes, offices, factories of all the accused in Maharashtra, Gujarat and other locations in the country, issued Look Out Notices, InterPol Red Corner Notices, suspended the passports of many of the accused, attached their residential business properties, and initiated other measures to pressurise and make them return to face the Indian laws.
In the latest initiative, last weekend, the government dismissed two PNB executive directors K.V. Brahmaji Rao and Sanjiv Sharan for alleged failure to exercise proper control over the bank’s functioning, procedural lapses by ignoring Reserve Bank Of India’s advisory to link Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) with the Core Banking Solutions (CBS) systems of the bank.
In August 2018, the Centre had sacked Allahabad Bank’s Managing Director and CEO Usha Ananthasubramanian in connection with the Choksi-Modi frauds when she was serving as the latter’s (PNB’) MD-cum-CEO.
