Nasheman News : BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav on Thursday termed the proposed ‘Mahagathbandhan’ or Grand Alliance as a non starter, saying that the opposition parties have no credible issues or agenda against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.
“Utter chaos is going on in the name of ‘Mahagathbandhan’ by the opposition parties. They have no common agenda, principle or ideals. However, efforts are on to form the Grand Alliance against the Centre. It is going to be a non starter,” he told the media here.
“The opposition parties have no issues against the present government. They are trying to form the alliance with just one agenda, to stop Modi from coming to power again.”
He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party was going to the upcoming Lok Sabha polls with all the NDA partners and assured that the NDA alliance will be more victorious that ever.
“We are facing the people of the country with the developmental works we have undertaken in the past five years. A total of 129 schemes have been started for the benefit of under privileged people and 22 to 23 crore people have benefited.
“The BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is also transparent and corruption free and there has not been a single allegation of corruption against anyone in the past five years except for the false allegation levelled by the Congress,” Ram Madhav added.
The senior party leader said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is incorruptible and that there is no leader in the country at present who can match him.

People make mistakes: Sourav Ganguly defends Pandya, Rahul
Nasheman News : Former Indian cricket team skipper Sourav Ganguly has defended cricketers Hardik Pandya and K.L. Rahul over their “Koffee With Karan” episode controversy. saying people make mistakes but everyone should move on and ensure it doesn’t happen again.
Ganguly spoke at the trailer launch of the Hindi film “22 Yards”, with the cast members Barun Sobti, Geetika Tyagi and Chaiti Ghoshal and director Mitali Ghoshal here on Wednesday.
Pandya and Rahul were slammed over their sexist comments on “Koffee with Karan”. Despite an apology to fans and their own teammates, Pandya and Rahul were suspended by the BCCI and ousted from a three-match ODI series against Australia in Sydney.
Asked if modern day cricketers should be responsible while giving statements on a public platform as a whole lot of youngsters look up to them, Ganguly said: “I haven’t watched that episode. I watch ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’. Jokes apart, I feel that you can’t generalise that only modern day cricketers should behave responsibly. People make mistakes. Let’s not get too far into that.
“I am sure whoever has done it will realise that and come out as a better person. We are all human beings. We are not machines that everything you put in comes out perfect. You have just got to live life and let others live. They are responsible people. They may be role models but they are under pressure all the time to perform. Certain things happen in life and as everyone, we should move on and make sure that it doesn’t happen again.”
Does he feel modern day cricketers of India aren’t responsible in their behaviour as compared to the past generation of cricketers?
Ganguly said: “I feel modern day cricketers are also responsible, disciplined and obedient. In life, certain things happen and you make some mistakes so, let’s not get too far into that. Look at Virat Kohli, he is such a fantastic role model. India is a fortunate country. Every generation produces players who all of us cherish.”
He said India has produced great cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli over the years.
“There was Sunil Gavaskar and when he retired, people thought who is next, then Sachin Tendulkar came and when Tendulkar retired, people again asked who is next then people saw Virat Kohli. So, we are a very fortunate country in terms of sports and a lot of these cricketers are fantastic human beings because they come from very middle class backgrounds and fight their way up.”
Bollywood has made films on the life of sports personalities like Milkha Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and now Kabir Khan is making a film on the Indian cricket team’s World Cup victory in 1983.
If a biopic is made on Ganguly’s life, then which actor should play his role?
“It is difficult for me to answer that question because I haven’t thought about a biopic on my life. People should first make a biopic of other sports personalities and if people have an interest in my biopic, then we will see.
“I really liked the biopic of Milkha Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The film on Sachin Tendulkar was a bit different. Now, I have heard that the film on India’s 1983 World Cup win is being made. I feel that was a great time for Indian cricket, so I am looking forward to see that film. As far as my biopic is concerned, we will wait and see as at the moment I haven’t thought about it.”
Asked if he has been approached by ALTBalaji to make a web series on his life, he said: “Is it Miss Ekta Kapoor’s production house? Because I am not aware of production houses and if yes, then I have spoken to her but nothing more than that.”
“22 Yards” is releasing on February 22. It is a triumphant tale of two individuals, a cricket agent and a young cricketer, overcoming numerous barriers and winning the toughest battle of life against all odds.
Barun Sobti plays the lead role of Ron Sen, while Panchi Bora will essay Sonali in the film, which will introduce Amartya Ray as Shome Ray. Other main cast members include Rajit Kapur, Rajesh Sharma, Chaiti Ghoshal, Geetika Tyagi and Mrinal Mukherjee.
Armed men rob Jammu-Delhi Duronto passengers near Delhi
Nasheman News : Brandishing knives at passengers, five armed men forced their entry into two Jammu-Delhi Duronto Express coaches early on Thursday and fled with their cash and gold within minutes in the absence of security, railway officials said.
The incident occurred near the Badli area of outer Delhi during an unscheduled stop made just after the train entered the national capital, a passenger said.
Northern Railway spokesperson Deepak Kumar said the signal system was tampered with as the train came to a sudden halt near Badli in outer Delhi, adding the armed men managed to enter the B3 coach and looted two passengers.
He said General Railway Police (GRP) was recording statements of the passenegers who were robbed, adding it would also take the statement of the TTE and other staff present in the train.
Those robbed in the train were identified as Ashok Kumar and Basant Bhandari, both residents of Jammu.
The NR spokesperson said the train was not escorted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff. “The GRP is working with the passengers to get the sketch of suspects,” Deepak Kumar said. He said that the railways has lodged a case against unknown persons under several sections of Indian Penal Code.
The robbery came to light after Ashwani Kumar, who was travelling from Jammu to Delhi, lodged a complaint through the railways’ complaints portal.
“Today at 3.30 a.m, the train stopped somewhere due to (a) signal problem. Some five unidentified culprits entered coaches B3 and B7. They put their knife on the neck of other passengers and asked them to provide whatever expensive items they were carrying.
“They took their purses, cash, carry bags, gold chain and other things. It was all over within 10-15 minutes,” said Ashwani Kumar in his complaint.
“The irony was that neither the staff nor security personnel were available at the time of the incident.”
“The RPF has some initial leads in the case… We will be able to catch the culprits soon,” Deepak Kumar said.

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has succeeded in reducing the Unaccounted For Water (UFW) levels in the city to 37 per cent this financial year, said Chairman Tushar Girinath. This has shot up the monthly revenue to a record high of over Rs 113 crore last month.

The Rs 164 crore UFW project started in 2013, aimed at bringing down the water losses in the city, from the 48 per cent mark it was at the time. It focused on replacing all old pipelines below 100mm diameter, repairing all leaks and cracks in old pipelines, and cracking down on unauthorised connections, to reduce leakage of water in any form.
The Chairman also said that 35 villages have started receiving drinking water under the water supply scheme for 110 villages. Tenders were being finalised in connection with the rejuvenation of the T K Halli reservoir and the contract will be awarded shortly, the Chairman added.

The CBI court on Wednesday accepted the plea of Haryana government which had sought appearance of the 51-year-old sect head through video conferencing during the pronouncement of quantum of sentence for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati, said CBI Counsel HPS Verma.
On January 11, Special CBI Court Judge Jagdeep Singh had convicted the self-styled godman and three others – Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal – in the murder case.
All the four were convicted under Section 302 (murder) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. Nirmal Singh and Krishan Lal were also convicted under the Arms Act.
The state government had filed the plea on Tuesday, citing that the movement of Dera chief could lead to law and order situation.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is currently serving a 20-year prison term in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail for raping two of his women followers.
Verma said counsels of all the four convicts will be in present in the court when the quantum of sentence will be pronounced.
The Haryana Police has beefed up security around the Sunariya jail in Rohtak where Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been lodged.
Police said about 800 personnel have been deployed in Rohtak.
Police has also intimated its cyber cell to keep a tab on the social media to prevent spreading of rumours and fake messages pertaining to Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
Similar arrangements are in place in Panchkula where the special court will pronounce the quantum of punishment. Section 144 has been imposed and total 14 barriers have been created at various places in the district.
About 1,000 police personnel have been deployed at various places in Panchkula besides one company of rapid action force (RAF).
The journalist was killed in Haryana’s Sirsa city in 2002 after his newspaper published a letter alleging sexual exploitation of women by the self-styled godman.
Chhatrapati was shot outside his house in October 2002 after his newspaper ”Poora Sach” published an anonymous letter narrating the alleged sexual exploitation of women followers by Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh at the Dera headquarters in Sirsa.
The Dera chief was named as the main conspirator in the case.
Chhatrapati’s family had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2003, seeking transfer of the case to the CBI.
The investigation was later handed over to the CBI which filed a charge sheet in July 2007.

Peculiar Food Trends Since Last 1 Decade
By: Lubna Rizwan
Trends by definition come & go, and they affect every aspect of our lives from our hair styles to decorate our living rooms. But just like perms & mullets, there are certain trends from the food world that we forget about completely.
For all the ones that were actually good ideas that have stood the best of time like brunch in the 1970’s there was also no shortage of absolute clunkers like jell – o – moulds, whose popularity defies explanation.
Caesar’s salad became a popular dish in 1920’s thanks to it being the star menu item at a Tijuana resturant run by caesar cardini.
In 1930’s apple pie & Ritz crackers were famous and the other food item was meatloaf. 1950’s was the bright future ahead with modern technology trending to create trendy foods gelatine based dishes & salads.
1960’s were more of fondues meatballs, beef chops & Zucchini bread.
1970’s did brunch with its hottest brunch dish quiche which people still like to savour, pasta & spaghetti served with a variety of cheese & meats. For 1980’s I would give the award to Risotto a popular dish. 1990’swas much of fat free no matter how much sugar & Chemicals were in the food as long as it was low carbohydrates & fat free it was considered healthy.
The year 2000 was dominated by cupcakes smoothies, sliders, burgers pizzas et al.
The year 2010 was all about food trucks gluten free, vegan restaurants, seafood, creativity and what not & they show no sign of slowing down.
Ministerial Berth : MLA Gowrishankar was offered Rs 60 crore
BENGALURU: JD(S) Arasikere MLA Shivalinge Gowda on Wednesday alleged that the BJP, in a fresh attempt to poach a JD(S) legislator, had offered Tumkur Rural MLA Gowrishankar Rs 60 crore in cash and a ministerial berth.
The offer was made by former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, he claimed. He said this after JD(S) leader HD Revanna briefed the media in Hassan. Shivalinge Gowda did not elaborate on the conversation between reported Gowrishankar and Jagadish Shettar.
KPCC Working President Eshwar Khandre said, “They have made such offers to Congress and JD(S) MLAs on many occasions, and have got a slap in the face many times too. Since they do not have a mandate to rule, they should sit in the opposition and allow the government to function properly,’’
However, senior BJP leader CT Ravi rubbished these claims and said that they are not in any way connected to what is happening in the coalition government.
Another BJP leader, Aravind Limbavali, countered that it was not BJP, but JD(S) that was indulging in horse-trading. “BJP MLAs have decided to stay in Gurugram to ensure that such an unholy act of the JD(S) and Congress fails. Instead of indulging in horse-trading, CM should concentrate on governance.’’

Karanataka Cable operators strike on January 24
TV screens across Karnataka using a conventional local cable connection as opposed to satellite Direct to Home services will go blank in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, on January 24 from 6 am to 10 pm, reports said. The Karnataka State Cable Television Operators Association has announced that they will hold a strike protesting against the new tariff policy by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) coming into effect from February 1.
There are currently more than 60 lakh users for conventional locally-operated TV service in the state.
VS Patrick Raju, president of the association, called the decision regressive and said the new tariff fixed by TRAI will prove beneficial neither to the customer nor the cable operators. He alleged the new rules are made only to favour the big players in the market.
The Hindu quoted him, saying, “The TRAI has come out with the new regulations without taking operators into consideration. At present, the operators are giving 450 channels for Rs 300 and if the new rules come into place, the subscriber will end up paying Rs 1,500 for same number of channels as the channel rate ranges from Rs 1 to 19. In addition, a provision has been made to charge 18 percent. The TRAI regulation is a regressive act and new rules are introduced just to favour big corporate bodies.”
Following a meeting by member cable operators, Patrick Raju said that the association will demand an alternative tariff structure including a GST rate cut before the new one comes into force and make sure that these local cable operators are not driven out of business.
In the new fee guidelines, a consumer will have to pay a fixed fee of Rs 130 a month for 100 free-to-air standard definition channels, including 26 mandatory Doordarshan channels. For every other channel, the user has to pay respective prices. However, TRAI claims that consumers will be able to choose their own channels and pay for it, thereby providing them with freedom of choice and direct control.
Similar strikes have been held in other parts of the country including neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the same issue.
Commercial Street to get pedestrian-friendly cobblestone facelift
Commercial Street, the favourite haunt of a huge number of Bengaluru shoppers, is soon going to sport a new look, with plans afoot to cobblestone it on the lines of Church Street.
Commercial Street, the favourite haunt of a huge number of Bengaluru shoppers, is soon going to sport a new look, with plans afoot to cobblestone it on the lines of Church Street. Parking will be prohibited on this road to make it a pedestrian-friendly zone. Entry of vehicles may also be banned once the road is completely cobblestoned.
The BBMP has planned to undertake works in late February or early March so that enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the parliamentary elections does not delay commencement of the project.
Basavaraj Kabade, Executive Engineer, Project Central, BBMP, said, “The tender has been finalized and sent to the board for approval. We will start the work soon after approval is given. We have identified this road as pedestrian-friendly zone, and parking of vehicles will be allowed on Kamaraja Road.”
Walk to your heart’s content on high street
SHOPPING enthusiasts will soon be able to indulge in retail therapy in peace at Commercial Street, with the local civic agency planning to develop the stretch into a pedestrian-friendly zone.
According to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Package-1 of developing Smart Roads in the area is estimated to cost Rs31.5 crore, of which the laying of cobblestones on the 700-metre road between Jumma Masjid and Kamaraja Road is estimated to cost around Rs8 crore.
A BBMP official told , “We have sent the finalized tender to the board committee of Smart City project. We want to take up the works as soon as the approval is given. We expect the work to start in late February or early March to avoid general election’s Model Code of Conduct affecting the commencement of works. We believe that the approval from board committee will be issued soon and the work order will be given by early February.”
The BBMP wants the road in the historical commercial hub to have with footpaths under the TenderSure model. With the addition of footpaths after the cobblestone-laying, on-street parking of vehicles will be prohibited along the road. The agency had proposed the project in October 2018, after which it called for tenders in November. The tender has been finalized and the tender has been sent to Board Committee of Smart City Project for approval.
The BBMP has already implemented the concept of laying cobblestones on a 750-metre stretch of Church Street at a cost of Rs14 crore. It was completed in February 2018. The work involved laying of 5 lakh hand-made cobblestones.
However, BBMP officials said a cobblestoned Commercial Street will be stronger than Church Street due to the narrower road not allowing speeding of vehicles, which can damage the cobblestones.
The BBMP, as part of the smart city initiative, had called tenders for development of 20 roads as Smart Roads under TenderSure guidelines at the cost of Rs 230 crore in November 2018, in which this project has been included.
