KXIP want to win the IPL for the Universe Boss: Gayle
Jaipur, March 26 (Nasheman News) His 47-ball 79 helped Kings XI Punjab register a 14-run win over Rajasthan Royals in their Indian Premier League (IPL) game on Monday, but Universe Boss Chris Gayle is just getting started. Chief coach Mike Hesson wants Gayle to enjoy himself in the middle and the opener seemed to be doing just that at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
“This is a big ground and it is really important to score runs in the first game. I have been in a bit of form in the England series and it’s good to start off the IPL on a positive note. What was more important is that we got a win. We just keep getting better and better. Sometimes some people will write you off but it’s still early days and I’m enjoying my cricket,” he smiled.
While many people have spoken about how Gayle is slowing down and is in the last stretch of his career, the Windies batsman announced that the youngsters in the team have his back and they want to win the T20 league for the Universe Boss.
“Our youngsters have a lot to offer for the team, they want to win the IPL for the Universe Boss. Eventually they got a better wicket to bat on, but our bowlers did the job for us. Sarfaraz (Khan) got some runs today and it was really good,” he said.
Sarfaraz too made his pleasure known after hitting an unbeaten 46 off 29 balls. It has been a hard couple of years for the youngster after the initial stardom at the India U-19 level and then with Royal Challengers Bangalore, but the middle-order bat is looking to make this year count at KXIP.
“I have been working hard and I did whatever was in my hands out there. A long time coming, this innings, and I would like to continue to bat this way. I have never got to bat this high in the IPL and if I get chances then I feel like I can do this every time.
“This is a game of bluffs — I knew it wasn’t a slower one that the bowler was bowling, he bowled the normal one and I was ready for it and managed to play the ramp. The bowler bluffed me a few times, and I (bluffed) him a few times. My dad is also a cricketer and his feedback has helped me a lot in life,” he said.
BCCI asks franchises to prepare sporting wickets
New Delhi, March 25 (Nasheman News) The first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw Chennai Super Kings bundling out Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for just 70 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.
While both CSK skipper M.S. Dhoni and his RCB counterpart Virat Kohli said that the pitch wasn’t how they had expected it to be, former Australia and CSK opener Mathew Hayden called it “below standard”.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now asked the IPL franchises to prepare sporting wickets for the rest of the tournament.
Speaking to IANS, a senior BCCI official said that while the board doesn’t interfere with the wickets prepared during the popular T20 league, it should not be heavily tilted towards either the batsmen or the bowlers.
“The franchises have the freedom to prepare wickets without the interference of the BCCI, but the wickets should be sporting and not heavily titled in favour of either the batsmen or bowlers,” the official said.
Speaking after the game, Dhoni had said: “I never expected the wicket to play the way it did. It was too slow and it just reminded me of the 2011 Champions League wicket. After the IPL, we came back and we had a really good season, but the wicket got relaid and all of a sudden we found it very difficult.
“I feel if the wicket stays like this, it will be tough for us also. The wicket definitely needs to be a lot better than where it is right now. Even with dew, it was still spinning big. I feel it needs to be high-scoring, even the opposition would have known that it was a slow wicket.”
“Something close to 140-150 is something you are looking at. 80, 90, 100 or 120 is really low-scoring and if you have genuine spinners in your line-up, it’s very difficult to score runs. I feel the wicket needs to be much better than how it is now,” Dhoni had said.
Echoing Dhoni’s sentiments,
Kohli had said: “It wasn’t easy to bat on, though it looked a much better surface. I thought 140-150 would have been an ideal score, especially with dew expected later on.
“The pitch was under covers for four days, but we should have batted better. 110-120 would have been a fighting score.”
Congress ‘rebel’ in fray against Deve Gowda in Tumkur
Bengaluru, March 25 (Nasheman News) Defying his party, Congress MP S.P. Muddhanumegowda on Monday filed his nomination from Karnataka’s Tumkur Lok Sabha constituency where Janata Dal-Secular supremo H.D. Deve Gowda is the official candidate of the state’s ruling alliance.
Soon after the 85-year-old Deve Gowda filed the nomination at the Deputy Commissioner’s office amid fanfare, Muddhanumegowda came with hundreds of his supporters to submit his papers.
As per the 21-7 seat-sharing arrangement between the two allies for the state’s 28 parliamentary seats, the Congress conceded Tumkur to the JD-S though Muddhanumegowda had won it in the 2014 polls.
“I have filed nomination as a Congress candidate. I request my leader and leaders of the JD-S to reconsider their decision and give the ticket to me only. I am confident of winning again,” Muddhanumegowda told reporters.
Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara of the Congress, who was present when Deve Gowda filed his nomination, has appealed to Muddhanumegowda to withdraw from the contest and respect the pre-poll tie-up with the JD-S.
On the other hand, pleas by Muddhanumegowda’s supporters to Deve Gowda to contest from Bangalore North were ignored and the JD-S surrendered the seat to the Congress as it did not have a suitable candidate.
Deve Gowda has shifted his parliamentary constituency from his bastion Hassan, after representing it six times since 1991, to pave way for his grandson Prajwal to contest in his place for the first time.
Prajwal is the son of Deve Gowda’s second son and state PWD Minister H.D. Revanna.
Tumkur and Hassan will go to polls in the second phase of the seven phase Lok Sabha elections on April 18 along with 12 other seats in the state’s central and southern regions. Polling in the remaining 14 seats in the coastal and northern regions will be held in the third phase on April 23. Vote count will be on May 23.
BJP asks me not to contest: Murli Manohar Joshi
Kanpur, March 26 (Nasheman News) Bharatiya Janata Party veteran Murli Manohar Joshi will not contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from anywhere as he has been denied a party ticket.
In a letter to the people of Kanpur, Joshi said: “Dear people of Kanpur, General Secretary of the BJP Ramlal conveyed to me today that I should not contest the ensuing parliamentary election from Kanpur and elsewhere.”
Joshi is one of the founding members of the BJP, along with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani.
The BJP has also denied a ticket to Advani and replaced him with party President Amit Shah from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat.
Advani has represented Gandhinagar for six time since 1991. Vajpayee has also represented the Gandhinagar in 1996.
Joshi, 85, had left his Varanasi seat for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He then won the 2014 elections from Kanpur.
Congress minister Gowda to contest from Bangalore North
Bengaluru, March 26 (Nasheman News) Congress on Monday night named its Karnataka Minister Krishna Byre Gowda as the party candidate to contest from the high-profile Bangalore North Lok Sabha constituency on April 18.
“The central election committee has approved the candidature of Krishna Byre Gowda as Congress candidate for the ensuing general election to the Lok Sabha from Bangalore North parliamentary constituency in Karnataka,” said the party in a statement from New Delhi, quoting the panel’s in-charge and party general secretary Mukul Wasnik.
The 45-year-old Gowda is the Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister in the ruling JD-S-Congress coalition government since May 2018.
He is a legislator in the state assembly from Byatarayanapura segment in the city’s northwest area.
Gowda will take on Union Minister and sitting Lok Sabha member D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who won the prestigious seat in the 2014 general elections.
The party named Byre Gowda to contest from Bangalore North a day after the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) surrendered it in the absence of a winning candidate.
As part of the seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties, the Congress will contest in 21 Lok Sabha seats, instead of 20, and the JD-S in seven, instead of eight.
Congress general secretary and party’s state unit in-charge K.C. Venugopal said his party was thankful to JD-S supremo H.D. Deve Gowda and the JD-S for the gesture to give up the Bangalore North seat in his party’s favour.
“Together let us all reclaim democracy,” Venugopal tweeted.

Modi govt is anti-poor: Cong
New Delhi, Mar 26 : Slamming the BJP and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for terming the Minimum Income Guarantee (MIG) scheme proposed by the Congress as a ‘bluff scheme ‘, the party on Tuesday described the Modi government as anti-poor.
Addressing a press conference here, AICC media in-charge Randeep Surjewala said, ”Hypocrite Modi can forgive Rs 3,50,000 crore of handful of businessmen but giving Rs 72,000 for India’s poor is troublesome for him. Why is BJP opposing this scheme? When Mr Modi can spend Rs 5,000 Cr for his publicity and advertisements, why is he opposing Rs 72,000 for a poor family? It is very clear that being anti-poor is in the DNA of Modi and BJP.”
Pointing out that Mr Narendra Modi opposed MNREGA, a scheme that eradicated poverty, Mr Surjewala said, ?In his very first speech in Parliament after becoming Prime Minister, Narendra Modi opposed MNREGA, a scheme that eradicated poverty. NSSO data reveals that since Modi became PM, 4 crore jobs are lost in the country. Mr. Modi’s GST destroyed small businesses in the country. Modi government is anti-poor.?
Giving details of the scheme, announced by Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday, Mr Surjewala said, ”
It is a women-centric scheme. The money will be transferred to the accounts of homemakers.”
Clarifying that it was not a top-up scheme, Mr Surjewala said, ”20 per cent poor families will receive Rs 72,000 every year. This scheme will be implemented for both urban and rural poor. Congress governments reduced India’s poverty from 70 per cent during independence to 22 per cent . We will work for removing the 22 per cent remaining poverty in India.?
”This is the world’s biggest scheme for eradicating poverty,” Mr Surjewala said.
Mankading: Ashwin says it was instinctive
Jaipur, Mar 26 : India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shocked almost everyone by running out England’s Jos Buttler by the means infamously known as ‘Mankading’ in the Rajasthan Royals (RR) versus Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP ) match in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Monday.
KXIP skipper Ashwin, who was bowling in the 13th over, saw Buttler, who was going good (68 off 42 balls), walking out of his crease even before the ball was released and the bowler stopped to take the bails off.
The field umpire referred the decision to the third umpire who was given the batsman out. A heated debate was seen between Buttler and Ashwin. This is the first time a player is out in this fashion in the IPL.
Reacting on this, in the post-match presentation, Ashwin said, “No argument to that (run out), it was pretty instinctive. I didn’t even load and he (Buttler) left the crease. It has always been my take on it, because it’s my half of the crease. We ended on the right side of it but those things are game-changers and batsmen need to be wary of it.”
“I don’t understand where the spirit of the play comes in this,” KXIP skipper added.
Ashwin drew a mix reaction over the run out. Australia’s legendary leg-break bowler Shane Warne took to twitter to express his disappointment over the run out.
“So disappointed in @ashwinravi99 as a Captain & as a person. All captains sign the #IPL wall & agree to play in the spirit of the game. RA had no intention of delivering the ball – so it should have been called a dead ball. Over to u BCCI – this a not a good look for the IPL,” Warne tweetd.
On the other hand, cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle came in Ashwin’s support.
“Lots of drama on the Buttler run-out. He was livid but the law and the advisory on it is clear. The bowler is within his right to run a player out at the non-striker’s end if he is out of his crease,” Bhogle tweeted.
Arrest Yogi for creating hatred, demands Owaisi
Hyderabad, March 26 (Nasheman News) MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday demanded arrest of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for creating hatred against Muslims by calling Congress leader Imran Masood a relative of Pakistani terrorist Masood Azhar.
Owaisi said the Election Commission should get the UP Chief Minister booked and arrested under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code.
Addressing an election meeting on Monday night, Owaisi said Yogi was linking Imran Masood to Masood Azhar because of the Muslim name.
Imran Masood is Congress candidate from Saharanpur Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
Owaisi, who is seeking re-election from Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency for a fourth term, also urged the Election Commission to remove Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh for making an appeal to people to vote for Narendra Modi.
“I want to ask Kalyan Singh, are you a governor or a political leader. If you have some respect for Constitution, you should resign,” he said.
Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief also slammed Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for his statement that if BJP doesn’t win the elections, Pakistan will win. He said the parties trying to defeat Modi so that India became successful and democracy was strengthened.
“This fight is to protect India’s composite culture and brotherhood in which the central government failed.”
Owaisi said at an election meeting two days ago he had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should own up responsibility for failing to prevent terror attack at Pulwama in which 40 CRPF troopers were killed.
“I had asked if he had eaten biryani and slept. As usual TV channels reported that I used word ‘bade ki biryani’ (beef biryani). Modi’s ‘chamche’ on social media asked me don’t you know he doesn’t eat meat. I don’t know. How do I know. Had I gone to his house to see. He may not eat. That’s his choice.”
Stating that chowkidar should be ‘zimmedar'(responsible), Owaisi said he should explain how 50 kg RDX was brought under his nose.
The MIM leader poked fun at Modi for promoting sale of T-shirts and other merchandise as part of ‘mein bhi chowkidar’ campaign.
“Parents want to see children in good positions but he is asking them to wear T-shirts of chowkidar,” he said.
Owaisi slammed Modi for providing Rs 1,500 crore from State Bank of India (SBI) to Jet Airways and said it was another instance to prove that he is favouring the rich. He wondered how Modi could offer the funding without approval from the cabinet. “This is public money not anybody’s baap ki jagir,” he said.
He alleged that BJP leaders and a NCP leader used to stay as guests at Naresh Goyal’s house in London.
