[Nasheman news] Lucknow All four accused of thrashing three Kashmiri dry fruit sellers here after calling them “stone-pelters” on Wednesday have been arrested, police said on Thursday.
Briefing the media about “the unfortunate incident”, Director General of Police (Law & Order) Anand Kumar and Additional Director General of Police (Lucknow) Rajeev Krishna, said they had arrested the accused, who were identified as Bajrang Sonkar, Amar, Himanshu and Anirrudh.
Sonkar, who was arrested earlier, is affiliated to the Vishwa Hindu Dal (VHD) and has a dozen criminal cases registered against him including one of murder, Senior Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani said.
The attackers were initially booked under the Indian Penal Code, but non-bailable offences have also been included now, he added.
The officials also said that the victims have been assured of security to carry out their business and have been provided medical care and compensation for the losses they incurred.
The attack took place on Wednesday when a group of saffron-robed youths came out of a car and pounced on the Kashmiri men who were selling dry fruits on the Daliganj Bridge. The vendors were beaten up mercilessly, witnesses said, and their wares were thrown around.
The attackers called the victims “stone-pelters” and asked them to produce their Aadhaar cards. The Kashmiris obliged but the attackers continued to beat them.
No one came to the rescue of the victims. It was only after someone called the police that the Kashmiris were saved.
Two of the injured vendors went away before police arrived there but a third, identified as Afzal, was taken to the local police station. Afzal was questioned for over an hour before an acquaintance vouched for him.
No FIRs were registered against the attackers initially. It was only after a video of the incident went viral on the social media that police did so.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the brutality. “Nothing will do more damage to the idea of India in Jammu and Kashmir than videos like these,” he said in a series of tweets along with the video post.
“Keep thrashing Kashmiris like this on the streets at the hands of RSS/Bajrang Dal goons and then try to sell the idea of ‘atoot ang’ (unbreakable part), it simply won’t fly.”
He called upon Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is also the Lucknow MP, to punish “those guilty of this assault”.

4-year-old girl raped in Uttarakhand
Nasheman News : A four-year-old girl was raped by a juvenile relative in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district, police said on Thursday.
The assault on Wednesday left the child bleeding and the family members rushed her to the Doon Hospital in Dehradun without informing the police.
Doctors refused to admit her claiming no FIR had been registered.
Senior police officials who rushed to the hospital asked the doctors to provide immediate treatment to the child.
The victim was discharged after treatment, said Director General of Police Ashok Kumar. Her condition is out of danger, he said.
Kumar said he had sought a report on whether doctors indeed refused to admit the child. “If they did that, strong action will be taken against them,” he said.
Centre, Telangana behaving like ‘economic terrorists’: Andhra CM
[Nasheman news] Amaravati Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday accused the Centre and the Telangana governments of behaving like “economic terrorists”.
He said both governments were targeting the opponents, including those from the corporate sector, by threatening them or by fabricating false cases against them.
Addressing a news conference here, he said both the Narendra Modi-led government and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government were creating an atmosphere of fear by targeting the opponents through raids or by causing mental agony to them.
Naidu also came down heavily on the Centre for threatening to file cases against “The Hindu” and N. Ram, Chairman of the publishing group, under the Official Secrets Act. He termed this as a serious threat to freedom of speech and expression guaranteed by the Constitution.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief referred to the raid conducted by the Telangana Police on an information technology firm providing services to the party. He alleged that the TRS government took away the data of his party and gave it to the YSR Congress to help it in the coming elections.
Naidu said 160 people who were working with the company ran away from Hyderabad as the TRS government created fear through the raid.
“They also filed a false case against us that government data was stolen. In what way are you concerned with this? Do you have so much love for Andhra Pradesh,” he asked.
The Chief Minister said Andhra Pradesh would take all steps, including legal recourse, to protect its sovereign rights.
He alleged that the TRS, BJP and YSR Congress had colluded to create chaos in Andhra Pradesh which was on the path of development and prosperity thanks to the efforts of his government during the last five years. He also claimed that they were trying to get the names of eligible voters deleted from the electoral rolls.
Stating that the Central and the Telangana governments forced many opponents, including some industrialists, to surrender before them, he said there was no question of compromising with them.
“They are threatening me of using the CBI, the ED and other agencies, but they can’t do anything. I have done nothing wrong in my 40-year-long political career and I will continue to fight,” Naidu said.
NIA team visits Jammu grenade blast site
[Nasheman news] Jammu A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team on Thursday reached Jammu’s main bus stand where a grenade attack left one man dead and left 30 others injured.
Sources in the agency said the team rushed to the spot soon after getting information about the blast that occurred around 11.30 a.m. when a grenade rolled by an unidentified militant under a packed, parked bus exploded. The bus was headed to Uttarakhand.
The explosion also injured passengers in a nearby bus which was set to leave for Amritsar.
One of the badly-wounded civilians, identified as a 20-year-old man from Uttarakhand, succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
According to police, four others were critically injured.
Soon after the explosion, the area was cordoned off but the militant merged into the crowd and escaped.
Some witnesses said they initially thought the sound had been caused by a tyre-burst.
The incident was the third attack at the bus stand, commonly known as Jammu General Bus Stand, by militants in the last nine months.
Rabri Devi to distribute party symbol to candidates for LS polls
[Nasheman news] Patna, In the absence of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi is slated to distribute the party symbol to candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, a party official said on Thursday.
“Rabri Devi will hand over the party symbol to the RJD candidates contesting the polls”, the official said. Lalu Prasad is unlikely to get bail ahead of the elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal official said.
Lalu Prasad was convicted in three fodder scam cases in December 2017 and January 2018 and was awarded 14 years imprisonment. He has applied for bail in the Supreme Court.
“If he fails to get bail within the next two weeks, candidates will be given the party symbol by Rabri Devi in his absence,” another party leader said.
Lalu Prasad, as President of the RJD, is entitled to distribute the party symbol.
He is currently undergoing treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi.
Earlier, a PIL was filed in the Patna High Court questioning the legitimacy of distribution of the party symbol by Lalu Prasad who, it stated, could not hold the post after being convicted in corruption cases.

The state’s Public Works Department was also working on road projects worth Rs 22,000 crore.

UK NSA promises support to India in countering terrorism
[Nasheman news] New Delhi The UKs National Security Advisor (NSA) Mark Sedwill spoke to his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval on Thursday and expressed solidarity with India in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack.
Sources said Sedwill conveyed that all assistance will be extended to India bilaterally in dealing with any form of terrorism through counter-terrorism cooperation, intelligence sharing and by bringing the perpetrators of terrorist attacks to justice.
Earlier in the week, US NSA John Bolton had spoken to Doval over the prevailing situation between India and Pakistan following the February 14 Pulwama attack and the retaliatory Indian air strikes on terror camps in Pakistan.
Why is Modi afraid of probe into Rafale: Rahul
Nasheman News :With the Centre threatening a probe over stealing of “privileged documents” related to Rafale deal from the Defence Ministry, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday demanded an investigation against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conducting parallel negotiations and delaying the delivery of the French jets to India.
Addressing the media here, Gandhi said that the stolen documents clearly state the Prime Minister was responsible for the delayed delivery and inflated price of the jets.
“The government now says it will investigate the media for the Rafale files being stolen. But the one (Modi) who conducted parallel investigation why will he not be investigated?
“If the documents have been stolen, that means they are authentic and they clearly state that parallel negotiations were carried out by the Prime Minister, the price of the jets were inflated and the delivery of the jets was delayed.
“Let there be investigation about the documents but at the same time also investigate the Prime Minister’s role in the Rafale (deal),” said Gandhi.
Referring to the Centre’s arguments in the Supreme Court during hearing of petitions seeking recall of its December 14 verdict giving a “clean chit” on the purchase of the Rafale jets, Gandhi said the sole objective of the government and its machinery was to defend the “chowkidar” (watchman).
With the government rejecting the Congress party’s persistent demand for a probe by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), Gandhi asked why Modi was afraid of investigation into the deal.
“Why isn’t the Prime Minister allowing an investigation against himself if he is not guilty? Why did he refuse a JPC? If there is nothing wrong in the deal, then let there be an investigation. Modi should say he is not afraid of any probe and allow investigation into the deal,” asserted Gandhi.
Citing the documents, Gandhi said that the Indian negotiating team clearly stated that the Prime Minister carried out parallel negotiations to enrich his industrialist crony by Rs 30,000 crore in the deal.
“It’s a blatant case of corruption, it is clearly stated that the Prime Minister of India carried out a parallel negotiation. Why should there not be a criminal investigation?
“The problem in India is, there is a criminal investigation only on people who oppose Modi,” said Gandhi, who a day earlier had called for an FIR against him saying there was enough evidence to prosecute him for corruption in the deal.
Kejriwal writes letter for Delhi statehood
[Nasheman news] New Delhi Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday addressed a letter to the people of the national capital describing the issues the city has faced in the last four years due to the lack of a full statehood.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will launch a full statehood movement on Sunday, with 1,000 teams campaigning across the city.
“The full statehood demand will be the party’s prime focus for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Our teams will go to every area in the city to tell the people about the injustice being done to the city,” AAP leader Gopal Rai told the media while unveiling Kejriwal’s letter.
“Our people will take this letter and the pamphlet and will approach the citizens.”
In the letter, Kejriwal said: “The BJP and Congress had made promises of a statehood for Delhi. But both the parties cheated the city and its people. AAP is your own party. If our MPs are elected, they will get full statehood for Delhi.”
Along with the letter, he also attached the pamphlet which said: “Every Delhi citizen will have a house, youth will get jobs, admission will be easily done in colleges, the city will be clean, sealing will be stopped, metro fare will not be hiked without the consent of people, all unauthorised colonies will be authorised, issues of rural Delhi will be solved, officials will be held responsible to the people and the work will be done with speed.”
On Wednesday, the party had launched a song for the movement.
All eyes on Dhoni as India eye series win against Australia
[Nasheman news] Ranchi Mahendra Singh Dhoni, probably playing for the final time at his home ground, will be the cynosure of all eyes when India take on Australia in the third ODI, aiming to take an unassailable 3-0 lead here on Friday.
Dhoni, who along with wife Sakshi, hosted the Indian team for dinner on Wednesday evening, has been the toast of the state ever since he made his ODI debut way back in 2004.
The 37-year old former India captain, who has led the country to two World Cups, will be playing his fourth ODI at the JSCA International Stadium.
In the last three ties, India have won one, lost one and rain washed the third match.
Dhoni has batted only twice in Ranchi in which he has scored 10 not out (vs England on October 23 of 2013) and 11 (vs New Zealand on October 26 of 2016). In terms of wicket-keeping on his home turf, Dhoni has three catches and a stumping in Ranchi.
What will keep Dhoni’s supporters going is the fact that in his recent form. Dhoni has already collected 301 runs from just eight matches at a staggering average of 100.33 in the ongoing season ahead of the World Cup.
Dhoni also recently joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid in an elite list of Indian batsmen to have scored over 13,000 runs in List A cricket.
Besides the emotional sub-plot, Team India will be looking to fix their top-order as they prepare for the World Cup starting in June in the UK.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan has been in terrible form, managing only two fifties in the last 15 ODIs, and the dashing southpaw will look to get his act together.
There is the option of replacing Dhawan with in-form KL Rahul, but the team management is unlikely to tinker with the playing XI as they look to get the combinations right.
Rahul, though, could play in place of Ambati Rayudu who hasn’t been very convincing in the two ODIs.
Vice-captain Rohit Sharma also would look to score a big one after not getting many in the last game.
Skipper Virat Kohli brought up his 40th hundred but would want more contribution from the top. On Friday, Kohli could bat at No.4 with Rahul given an opportunity to show what he has got at No.3.
India’s two victories — by six wickets and eight runs — weren’t exactly convincing but pulling off close matches under pressure will certainly add to the confidence.
The bowling has been nothing short of spectacular in both the games for the hosts.
The visitors were not only stifled but kept in check with totals of below 250. In the second ODI, Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar performed their combined role of a fifth bowler to perfection.
Shankar’s final over could go a long way in securing his place in the World Cup squad with the Tamil Nadu all-rounder taking two wickets and guiding India to the win.
Talking about the visitors, it was their match to win in the last game and the lack of character shown would worry the team management. The Aussies did well to restrict India to 250 and were on course for most parts of the match. Marcus Stoinis held one end up with a defiant half century but ran out of partners as Jasprit Bumrah showed why he is considered the best in the business.
Squads:
India: Virat Kohli (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni (wk), Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rishabh Pant.
Australia: Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Ashton Turner, Jhye Richardson, Adam Zampa, Andrew Tye, Pat Cummins, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Alex Carey, Nathan Lyon, Jason Behrendorff.
