Doubts raised on my statement misleading, incorrect: Sitharaman
Nasheman News : Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday attacked Congress President Rahul Gandhi for raising “incorrect and misleading” doubts regarding her statement in Parliament after the latter challenged her to prove her claim that the Centre gave Rs 1 lakh crore worth of orders to defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) or resign.
In a suo motu statement in the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman clarified that she had received confirmation from HAL that during 2014 to 2018, contracts amounting to Rs 26,570.80 crore had been signed with the public sector company and orders worth approximately Rs 73,000 crore were in the pipeline.
“Doubts are being raised on my statement made on the floor of the house on January 4 regarding procurement orders in the pipeline for HAL… I would like to set all doubts to rest by adding that I have received confirmation from HAL that during 2014-2018, contracts amounting to Rs 26,570.80 crore have already been signed with HAL and orders approximately of Rs 73,000 crore are in the pipeline,” she said without naming Gandhi.
“I had specifically mentioned that there are 83 LCA Tejas fighters ordered worth Rs 50,000 crore, 15 combat helicopters worth Rs 3,000 crore, 200 more helicopters worth Rs 20,000 crore, 19 Dornier transport aircraft worth Rs 3,400 crore, helicopters worth Rs 15,000 crore, and aero-engines worth Rs 8,400 crore. All of them put together amount to Rs 1 lakh crore,” she added.
Placing documents related to those orders on the floor, Sitharaman said they “clearly confirm the correctness of my statement made on the floor of this house and (prove that) the doubts raised in this regard are incorrect and misleading”.
Her response comes after Gandhi alleged that the Defence Minister must either place documents before Parliament to prove her claim that the Modi government has given Rs 1 lakh crore worth of orders to defence PSU HAL or resign.
Two days after Sitharaman made the claims in the Lok Sabha , Gandhi took to Twitter to question her claims, tagging a media report that said “no actual order has been placed”.
BJP trying to arm-twist Akhilesh through CBI: Mayawati
Nasheman News : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has accrued the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to intimidate and arm-twist its political rivals through government agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Referring to reports that the investigative agency might question former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in the mining scam, the BSP leader said the development sacked of political vendetta, with an eye on the forthcoming general elections.
Mayawati telephoned Akhilesh Yadav, with whose party the BSP is negotiating an alliance, and told him that such tactics were nothing new as the BJP always indulged in such “dirty politics and electoral conspiracies”.
She added that she and the BSP had suffered in the past in similar fashion when the previous BJP government unleashed the CBI on her.
She told the 45-year-old Samajwadi Party leader not to be deterred by such conspiracies and instead face them with his head held high.
The Dalit leader told foe-turned-friend Akhilesh Yadav that by now even ordinary people were aware of the “dirty tricks” of the BJP and were readying to give the ruling party a befitting response in the Lok Sabha elections.
In a statement, she said the BJP was jittery as the BSP and SP were discussing an alliance and the CBI raids last week at different places and the media reports of the probable questioning of Akhilesh Yadav, who served as the Mining Minister in 2012-13, was politically motivated.
“If this was a serious and unbiased action, why did the CBI not do it earlier and why has the action triggered a spate of unnecessary reactions from BJP leaders?” she asked. She alleged that BJP leaders had suddenly becomes spokespersons of the CBI.
Mayawati pointed out that long back when the BSP refused to give 60 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh to the BJP, they tried to frame her in the Taj Corridor case.
“But I never buckled to pressure and ultimately I romped home with a majority in the 2007 elections to the Assembly,” the four-time Chief Minister said.
She also accused the Congress in the same breath of being “expert in fixing political opponents”.

My best achievement, says Kohli after historic win
Nasheman News : After India scripted history by winning its first series on Australian soil, edging past the hosts 2-1, an elated Virat Kohli termed the victory as his “best achievement’.
After winning the Adelaide and Melbourne Tests, India scored 622 for 7 in their first innings before bowling out Australia for 300 and later enforced follow-on in the fourth and final affair here.
However persistent drizzle washed out the fifth day as the contest ended in a draw.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Kohli said: “Firstly I want to say, I’ve never been more proud of a team than this one. The culture we’ve been able to build over the last 12 months.”
“Only one word to say, I’m proud. To lead these players is an honour and a privilege. By far this is my best achievement. Has to be on top of the pile,” he added.
Kohli also showered praise on Cheteshwar Pujara, who was instrumental in India’s historic win with three tons in the series and a total of 521 runs.
“Want to give a special mention to Pujara. Especially after the kind of series he had the last time he came here. He’s one guy always willing to accept things. Takes it in his stride and works on his game,” the Indian skipper expressed.
“He (Pujara) is the nicest man around. Special mention to Mayank Agarwal too. To come in on Boxing Day and play like that against a high quality attack in their conditions speaks volumes of the belief he has,” Kohli added.
Meanwhile, Pujara, who was adjudged player of the match and series, said: “It’s a great feeling for all of us. We’ve been working really hard to win a series overseas. And especially doing it in this country, it’s never easy.”
“First hundred was special, scoring it in Adelaide and going 1-0 up is something which we were all aiming for. When you do that, there’s a good chance of winning the series. So that hundred was special,” he pointed out.
Women cab drivers for female passengers at Bengaluru airport
Nasheman News : Cab services driven by women for female passengers were flagged off at the Kempegowda International Airport here on Monday.
“The women drivers will be fluent in multiple languages, well versed with local areas and trained in self-defence tactics to strengthen the safety and security of women passengers,” the airport said in a statement.
The tech hub’s airport is located in Devanahalli, about 40 km from the city centre.
The women-run taxi service was started by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corp (KSTDC) and the airport operating authority Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL).
The cabs will be equipped with safety features, such as GPRS tracking and an SOS switch in case of any emergency.
“The initiative, which has been started on an experimental basis, will commence with 10 cars and gradually increase based on demand and passenger feedback,” the statement said.
Solo female travellers or group of women can avail the cab services.
The pink cab service will be functional 24 hours and priced at Rs 21.50 per km during the day and Rs 23.50 per km at night.
“The service has been implemented with an objective to provide a safe and secure mode of transport for women travellers from the airport, while also creating opportunities for women drivers to be self-employed,” KSTDC Managing Director Kumar Pushkar said in a statement.
“The initiative is an effort to contribute to the socio-economic development of women from villages around the airport by recruiting women drivers from the vicinity,” BIAL said.
‘Digital transactions not universal’: RBI
New Delhi, A parliamentary panel has asked the Reserve Bank of India to address the problem of perpetually dysfunctional ATMs so as to avoid a situation of a forced cash crunch.
The Standing Committee on Finance has also asked banks to install an adequate number of ATMs. The panel tabled its report in Parliament last week.
As per RBI data, there were 2,21,492 Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in the country as at September-end 2018.
These include 1,43,844 ATMs of public sector banks, 59,645 ATMs of private banks and 18,003 of foreign banks, payments banks, small finance banks and White Label ATMs (WLAs), which are owned and operated by non-bank entities.
“As digital transactions have not become anywhere near universal, the committee would urge upon RBI to pursue the lingering problem of dysfunctionality as well as shortage of ATMs vigorously with banks, while ensuring the economic viability of ATMs for all stakeholders, so that a forced cash crunch is not imposed on the public,” the report said.
The panel headed by senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily also noted that the RBI’s remonetisation drive has not resolved the cash supply to ATMs in rural or semi-urban areas, forcing the shutdown of many ATMs.
The committee has expressed concern that “there are just not enough” ATMs being installed or added to cater to the rising demand for cash in an expanding economy, even as more and more debit cards are being issued and large number of Jan Dhan accounts opened by banks.
ATMs have become an important channel for withdrawing money even after the close of banking hours. Digital transactions are also catching up.
Besides ATMs, basic banking services are provided by business correspondents through their micro ATMs.

At Amit Shah rally, world record attempt with ‘khichdi’
‘Samrasta Khichdi’ will be cooked at the Bhim Mahasangam rally in Ramleela Maidan with the ingredients collected by members of Delhi BJP’s SC Morcha. The rally will be addressed by party chief Amit Shah.
“We have covered over two lakh Dalit houses so far and expect to reach 90 per cent of the targeted three lakh households in the coming days. Also, we are in touch with Guinness Book for getting this feat registered as a world record,” said Delhi BJP SC Morcha president Mohanlal Gihara.
The current world record of largest khichdi cooked is 918.8 kg, which was achieved by celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor and Ministry of Food Processing Industries at World Food India festival held in Delhi in November 2017.
Gihara said Nagpur-based chef Vishnu Manohar and his team, who had attempted to cook 3,000 kg khichdi in a single vat, have been invited to cook ‘Samrasta Khichdi’ at the rally that is expected to be attended by over 50,000 people.
A specially designed vat, measuring 20 feet in diameter and six feet in depth, will be used by Manohar and his team to cook over 3,000 kg of khichdi with ingredients like rice, pulses, salt and water, Gihara said.
BJP chief Amit Shah is scheduled to address the rally being held to showcase reach of the party within the Dalit community in Delhi.
Khichdi is a well-known Indian dish that is often prescribed by doctors due to its nutritional value to convalescent persons. It is also popular as an easy-cooked meal.

LS Speaker suspends four more MPs
[Nasheman news] New Delhi Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday again suspended four TDP and AIADMK for two consecutive sittings for causing “grave disorder” in the house.
The Speaker’s action came as members of the two parties were agitating near the Speaker’s podium shouting slogans in support of their demands like special status for Andhra Pradesh and against the proposed dam on the Cauvery river in Karnataka, issues on which they have been protesting ever since the start of the session.
The House could not proceed with the Question Hour as there was pandemonium and the Speaker adjourned it till noon. The situation was no different when the House resumed and Mahajan issued a warning and suspended the four members of both the parties including AIADMK leader P. Venugopal and TDP’s N. Shivaprasad.
Last week, the Speaker had suspended 45 Lok Sabha members belonging to AIADMK and the TDP.
“You have come to the well of the House and you are abusing the rules by persistently and wilfully obstructing the business. By your wilful and persistent obstruction, grave disorder is being occasioned. I am, therefore, constrained to name you under Rule 374A.
“Therefore, all of them stand automatically suspended from the service of the House for two consecutive sittings of the session under provision of Rule 374A. They may forthwith withdraw from the precincts of the House,” she said.
Mahajan requested the suspended members to withdraw themselves from House but they did not relent and continued with their protest.
Mahajan then adjourned the House till 12.30 p.m.
