Congress will never implement CAA if voted to power in Assam: Rahul Gandhi

Sivasagar (Assam): Accusing the BJP and RSS of dividing Assam, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that his party will protect every principle of the Assam Accord and will never implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act if voted to power in the state.

Addressing his first public rally in Assam ahead of the assembly elections due in March-April, Gandhi said that the state needs its “own chief minister” who will listen to the voice of the people and not one who listens only to Nagpur and Delhi.

“The Assam Accord has brought peace and it is the protector of the state. I and my party workers will protect each principle of the Accord. There will not be a single deviation from it,” he said.

Gandhi said illegal immigration is an issue in Assam and exuded confidence that the people of the state have the capability to resolve the issue through dialogue.

Alleging that BJP and RSS are trying to divide the state on the issue of Assam Accord, he said, “If Assam is divided, then Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah will not be affected, but the people of Assam and the rest of India will be affected.”

Talking about the controversial CAA, the senior Congress leader said that if his party comes to power in the state, the law will not be implemented under any circumstance.

All party leaders, including Gandhi, were seen wearing ‘Gamocha’ (Assamese scarf), where symbolically the CAA word was crossed, giving a message against the controversial law.

Gandhi said Assam needs a chief minister from their “own people” who will listen to their issues and try to resolve them.

“Remote control can operate a TV but not a CM. The current CM listens to Nagpur and Delhi. If Assam gets a CM like this again, it will not benefit the people. The youths need a CM who will give jobs to them,” he said.

Taking a dig at the prime minister, the Union home minister and “businessmen close to them”, Gandhi said, “I have devised a new slogan for Assam — Hum do, humare do; Assam ke liye humare aur do, aur sab kuch loot lo.”

He alleged that natural resources and PSUs in the state are being “sold off” to two leading businessmen of the country.

Gandhi also accused the Modi government of “looting” public money during the COVID-19 pandemic and waiving huge amounts of loans of his “two businessmen friends”.

He said that the Congress government under the leadership of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi had brought peace to Assam by ending the era of violence.

R Ashwin surpasses Harbhajan for Test wickets in India, now only behind Kumble

Chennai: Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Sunday surpassed Harbhajan Singh to become the second highest wicket-taker in Tests played in India.

Ashwin got past Harbhajan, who took 265 wickets at an average of 28.76, by dismissing Ben Stokes with a perfect off-spinner on the second day of the second Test against England here. Ashwin’s average is 22.67.

Spin legend Anil Kumble is the leading wicket-taker in India with 350 scalps at 24.88. He is also India’s leading wicket-takers in Tests with 619 scalps to his game.

Harbhajan is third in the standings with 417 wickets and Ashwin, who is inching towards the 400-wicket mark, is fourth. The legendary Kapil Dev is second with 434 wickets.

Wellington: New Zealand’s largest city of Auckland will be placed in a three-day lockdown beginning just before midnight Sunday following the discovery of three unexplained corona virus in the community.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced the move Sunday evening after an urgent meeting with other top lawmakers in the Cabinet. She said they decided to take a cautious approach until they found out more about the outbreak, including whether the infections were of the more contagious variants.

The rest of New Zealand will also be placed under heightened restrictions although will not go into lockdown, Ardern said.

In a significant setback to New Zealand’s efforts to keep the coronavirus from spreading in the community, three people from one Auckland family have tested positive with the source of the infections unknown, health officials announced Sunday.

The news prompted Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to cancel her plans and return to the capital Wellington for further briefings and decision-making.

New Zealand had successfully stamped out community spread of the virus, although new cases are regularly caught at the border among returning travellers, all of whom are required to spend two weeks in quarantine.

Officials said they’re keeping an open mind on how the Auckland mother, father and daughter caught the disease. They said the mother works at an airline catering company, and officials are investigating whether there is a link to infected passengers.

Officials said the daughter’s high school will be closed on Monday and Tuesday as a precaution, but so far they have not announced any broader restrictions.

We are gathering all of the facts as quickly as we can, and the system that served us so well in the past is really gearing up to do so again, said COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins.

He described the cases as new and active. He said scientists are carrying out genome sequencing to see whether the cases are of the more transmissible variants, and also to see whether they match with any infected passengers.

He said there would likely be a further update later on Sunday.

New Zealand has kept COVID-19 contained better than almost any other country, Hipkins said. But as we have kept saying, there is no such thing as no risk.

Ardern on Sunday cancelled her plans to attend the Big Gay Out, a large Auckland festival that celebrates the rainbow community.

New Zealand, with a population of 5 million, has reported a total of just over 2,300 cases and 25 deaths since the pandemic started.

21-year-old activist arrested in Bengaluru for sharing Greta Thunberg’s ‘toolkit’

Bengaluru: A 21-year-old climate activist has been arrested from Bengaluru for being allegedly involved in sharing the “toolkit” related to the farmer’s protest on social media, police said on Sunday.

Disha Ravi was arrested by a Cyber Cell team of the Delhi Police from Bengaluru on Saturday, a senior police officer said.

Earlier, the Delhi Police had asked Google and some social media giants to provide information about email id, URLs and certain social media accounts related to the creators of the “toolkit” shared by teen climate activist Greta Thunberg and others on Twitter in connection with the farmers’ protest.

The Cyber Cell had lodged an FIR against “pro-Khalistan” creators of the “toolkit” for waging a “social, cultural and economic war against the Government of India”.

The case against unnamed persons was registered on charges of criminal conspiracy, sedition and various other sections of the Indian Penal Code, the police said.

Addressing a press conference earlier, a senior Delhi Police officer said initial investigation linked the document with a pro-Khalistan group named “Poetic Justice Foundation”.

According to the police, the “toolkit” has a particular section that mentions “digital strike through hashtags on or before January 26, tweet storms on January 23 onwards, physical action on January 26 and watch-out or join farmers march into Delhi and back to borders”.

The “toolkit” was aimed at spreading disaffection and ill-will against the government of India and creating disharmony among various social, religious and cultural groups, the police had added.

Polybags are light, low-cost, waterproof and non-teasing. Cloth, jute and paper bags have been replaced in our everyday lives. The risky aspects of using polybags appear to be ignored by all of us. Blocking of drains due to polybags can cause rainwater to overflow. Hot edible goods that are placed in or stored in polybags result in food items being contaminated. Consumption of food products of this sort will adversely affect human health. The use of polybags, writes the author, should be banned. It’s critical that our planet be saved from the danger of polybags. As we step out of our houses, he says, the most comfortable and alternative view will be using a cloth or jute bag.

Smartphone addiction sometimes colloquial known as “monopobia” ( fear of being without a mobile phone) is often fueled by an Internet. Cellphone are constantly being improved by expanding upon their functionalies which is turn increase the likelihood of overuse and addition . According to the PEW research center, 67% of smartphone users have admitted to checking their phone for calls or messages when their phone didn’t vibrate or ring. Using phones and tablets in the dark can speed up blindness…  Researchers from the University of Toledo say long periods of time exposed to blue light, the kind phones, tablets and televisions give off, can damage vision and generate poisonous molecules in the eyes light -sensitive cells. It is bad to sleep near your phone. It can seriously mess up your sleep!  Smart phones emit high school level of radiation which can cause disfunction or unbalance to your biological clock. In this way, sleeping next to your phone could actually lead to more nightmare because your cardiac rhythm could be thrown for a loop. You might just be addicted smartphone use physically affects your brain. Regions in the brain known as grey matter showed changes in size and shape for people with social media addiction.

Losing profoundnessWe always think first of GIFs, videos and lists when we think of online content. The general assumption (although not strictly precise) is that most online readers are not interested in long reads, preferring something short, easily digestible and quickly exchanged instead.As a consequence, the knee-jerk reactions of many media outlets is to push their authors to keep their story word counts to a minimum and play up photos. Most journalists, however, see this as a “dumping down” of their work, for a few extra clicks, sacrificing depth, insight and good writing.2. Attitude -AttitudeMost journalists regard digital media as something that they have not signed up for. Writing is their field; they don’t make videos, podcasts and interactive maps. They also see time spent on this “online stuff” away from their real work as time spent.The problem is that these interactive elements are not seen as an extension of their writing, a way of bringing the story to the reader a different dimension. In several ways, a journalist who says, “This is not my job” is one of the greatest stumbling blocks to the online evolution of journalism.

THE MAGICAL RAINBOW

A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by  reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicolored circular. There are seven colours in the rainbow red, orange, yellow, green  blue, indigo and violet. The acronym ROY G. THE various colors came to reflect both the immense diversity and the unity of the LGBTQ community.It was not until 1994 that the rainbow flag was truly established as the symbol for LGBTQ pride. They are  not as rare as they may seems and how they from isn’t. So unusual rainbows from when sun hits a raindrop and light blends or refracts… It’s so cool to see and the higher secondary rainbow  is usually more faint in colour than the main rainbow .A more rare phenomenon is called a twinned rainbow. Rainbow are actually full circle. The antisolar points is the center of the circle viewers in aircraft can sometimes see these circle rainbow viewers on ground can only see the light reflected by raindrops above the horizon. If we draw rays of sunlight that reflect 42 degrees into your eyes then those rays start to look like they from a circle are in the sky. So the reflection gives you the shape of the rainbow while the refraction gives you the colour of the rainbow from the air you can see circle rainbow.

Environment pollution is the mixing of harmful pollutants into the environment causing disturbance to the natural processes and cycles. Various types of environmental pollution are categorized as the water pollution, air pollution, land pollution and noise pollution. Production of solid and liquid wastes on a large scale from the industries, emissions of hazardous gases, deforestation, global warming, and many more problems originated by human beings are the main reasons of increasing environmental pollution. In the last one decade, there is a great increase in the level of environmental pollution and the scenario has become worse than earlier.

All the natural gases in the environment make their balance by reacting to each other. Some of them are used as food by plants like carbon dioxide. But, just imagine what happens when we start finishing plants. Decreasing number of plants causes less use of carbon dioxide which gets spread into the whole environment and in turn increases environmental temperature level and thus global warming.We are doing lots of such mistakes daily and it should not be a big surprise for us that one day the chance of life existence would be finished on this planet.

Environmental pollution needs a global level awareness and every one of us needs to understand our all mistakes, causes of pollution, ways to solve the problems created by it and most importantly how to stop the negative environmental changes and environmental pollution.

Environmental pollution has become a great concern to save our planet. We need to adapt various measures to reduce environmental pollution. Some of them include planting trees, reducing the use of non-renewable resources, proper disposal of wastes, etc. It is the responsibility of every individual to save our environment from getting polluted.
