PM Modi to distribute offer letters to 71,000 recruits at Rozgar Mela

November 22, 2022 by Nasheman

Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

NEW DELHI: Under the Rozgar Mela, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday will distribute about 71,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits. On the occasion, PM  Modi also launched Karmayogi Prarambh module, an online orientation course for all new appointees. The PM will also address the appointees through the video conferencing, Prime Minister Office said in a statement on Monday.

The Rozgar Mela is a step towards fulfillment of the commitment of the PM to accord highest priority to employment generation. The Rozgar Mela is expected to act as a catalyst in further employment generation and provide meaningful opportunities to the youth for their empowerment and participation in national development directly.

Earlier in October, appointment letters were handed over to 75,000 newly inducted appointees under Rozgar Mela. The physical copies of the appointment letters to the new appointees will be handed over at 45 locations across the country (except Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh). In addition to the categories of posts filled earlier, posts of teachers, lecturers, nurses, nursing officers, doctors, pharmacists, Radiographers and other technical and paramedical posts are also being filled. A significant number of posts are being filled by the Ministry of Home Affairs in various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

“Prime Minister will also launch the Karmayogi Prarambh module – an online orientation course for all new appointees in various government departments. It will include code of conduct for government servants, workplace ethics and integrity, human resource policies and other benefits and allowances that will help them to get acclimatized to the policies and transition smoothly into the new roles,” said the statement.

They will also get an opportunity to explore other courses on igotkarmayogi.gov.in platform to enhance their knowledge, skills and competencies, it also added. In June, the PM asked various government departments and ministries to initiate the recruitment of 10 lakh people on a ‘mission mode’ in the next year and a half.

Satyendar Jain’s ‘Masseur’ a prison inmate, not physiotherapist: Jail sources

November 22, 2022 by Nasheman

Sources claimed that the man, who was seen giving Jain a massage in the videos, was a prisoner named Rinku. (Photo | Twitter, @Shehzad_Ind)

NEW DELHI: The masseur who was seen in is not a physiotherapist but an inmate who is lodged in the Tihar Jail in a rape case, sources said on Tuesday.

The claims come days after the Aam Aadmi Party, which had drawn flak over the videos, asserted that Jain was receiving physiotherapy in the jail, where he is in judicial custody for the past five months over money-laundering charges.

Jain could be seen in the purported videos getting back and foot massages in his cell, reading some documents and talking to visitors while lying on a bed.

Mineral water bottles and a remote are also seen. In one video, he was seen getting a head massage while sitting on a chair.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had claimed that following a spinal injury and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of doing “cheap” politics on health issues by illegally leaking CCTV footage.

However, sources claimed that the man, who was seen giving Jain a massage in the videos, was a prisoner named Rinku.

“He is lodged in the prison in connection with a rape case and sections of the Pocso Act. Rinku is not a physiotherapist,” the sources said.

AAP leader Gopal Rai alleged that the BJP was highlighting matters related to Sisodia and Jain and other sting operations since it does not have any election issues related to Municipal Corporation of Delhi election.

On Jain apparently getting special treatment inside jail, he said: “Amit Shah was in Gujarat jail and at that time, there was a special jail for him. The kind of treatment he got nobody can get ever. This is available on record.”

“The issue is not of him (Jain) getting treatment, but the issue is that what treatment will Delhi people give the BJP on December 4,” Rai said.

He alleged that the BJP’s only agenda was just to tarnish the image of Kejriwal.

“In Delhi, for the last 10 days, there are two parties that are campaigning, while Congress is not part of the battle,” Rai said.

“On one side are those who are campaigning on the basis of their work. On the other hand there are those who just want to indulge in mudslinging,” he said.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari slammed the ruling party.

“Shameful @ArvindKejriwal Doctors have confirmed that it is not physiotherapy and moreover the person giving massage to Saryendra Jain in Tihar Jail is a rapist, accused under the POCSO, and not a physiotherapist as claimed and endorsed by you!” Tiwari tweeted.

The Enforcement Directorate had claimed in a court that Jain was getting special treatment, including massage and special food, in the jail.

It provided CCTV footage to substantiate the claim.

Earlier this month, a Tihar jail superintendent was suspended for alleged involvement in providing a special treatment to Jain in the prison.

SRINAGAR:  Senior politician and former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is all set to rename his recently floated Democratic Azad Party (DAP) after the Election Commission of India (ECI) has raised objections over its name.

The ECI had raised objections over the name saying the party with the same name already exists in UP. Former minister and DAP general secretary R S said ECI had suggested Progressive Azad Party as an alternative name for the party but the party has told the commission that it is not comfortable with this name and would suggest new names.

“We have told the ECI that we are not in agreement with the name suggested by the commission,” he said. The founding member of DAP Salman Nizami said the party after consulting all party leaders has given four more names to the ECI and the commission is yet to approve any one of them. He, however, said whatever be the name of the party, Azad party will definitely be there in the new name.

Mangaluru auto blast: Shariq had hand in terror graffiti case

November 21, 2022 by Nasheman

BENGALURU:  The passenger in the autorickshaw, in which an explosive went off on Saturday in Mangaluru, has been identified as Mohammed Shariq (24), who was earlier involved in the terror graffiti case in Mangaluru in November 2020 and was recently enlarged on bail

Shariq had recently travelled to Coimbatore where on October 23, a car with an LPG cylinder in the boot exploded at Kottaimedu killing the driver — 29-year-old Jamesha Mubeen of Ukkadam.

The police had recovered charred remains of Mubeen near the car, a crushed LPG cylinder, two-inch-long iron nails, tiny glass marbles and a black powder-like substance. The case, which was initially registered and investigated by the TN police, is now being probed by the NIA after the opposition BJP demanded a probe by a central agency, alleging that it was a terror act.

“Shariq is allegedly a member of the Islamic State of Iraq & Syria module Al Hind, which is active in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. This is his second alleged involvement in a terror activity in Mangaluru,” said sources. Shariq was also allegedly involved in radicalising two youth Maaz Muneer Ahmed and Syed Yasin, who were arrested in Shivamogga stabbing case in September. Shariq had been absconding since then.

NZ vs IND, 2nd T20I: Clinical India beat NZ by 65 runs; leads series 1-0

November 21, 2022 by Nasheman

Hardik and Chahal

MOUNT MAUNGANUI: Suryakumar Yadav displayed his unmatched superiority in the shortest format with a breathtaking hundred as India outplayed New Zealand by 65 runs in the second T20 here on Sunday

Surya struck a sensational 111 not out off 51 balls for his second T20 century and fired India to 191 for six. Promoted to number three, the 32-year-old toyed with the bowlers to lift India to a challenging total after New Zealand put the visitors into bat.

He smashed boundaries and sixes at will, his last 64 runs coming off just 18 balls. His entertaining innings had 11 fours and seven sixes and his strike rate was an incredible 217.64. New Zealand bowlers appeared clueless as Surya kept strung together some extraordinary shots.

The hosts kept losing wickets in the run chase and never looked in the hunt. In the end, New Zealand were all out for 126 in 18.5 overs.

With the first game being washed out, India now lead the three-match series 1-0 with the final game to be played on Tuesday.

New Zealand were dealt a setback at the start of the chase when the dangerous Finn Allen went for an expansive drive off a Bhuvneshwar Kumar outswinger only to be caught at third man.

Opener Devon Conway (25 off 22) and skipper Kane Williamson (61 off 52) stitched a 56-run stand but could not find the big hits that were needed to keep up with the asking rate.

Conway was caught at deep backward square leg while going for the sweep against Washington Sundar.

The big-hitting Glenn Phillips had to do something special to bring New Zealand back into the game. He made his intentions clear with a crisp slog sweep off Yuzvendra Chahal that went all the way but two balls later, the same shot led to his downfall.

With New Zealand struggling to 89 for five in the 14th over, the game was as good as over.

It was a good comeback game for Yuzvendra Chahal (2/26) who surprisingly did not get a single game in the recent World Cup.

Part-time off-spinner Deepak Hooda struck thrice in the 19th over and ended up with a four-wicket haul. Skipper Hardik Pandya did not bowl.

Surya’s sensational form continues

Earlier, India’s experiment to open with Rishabh Pant did not work as he fell after a sluggish six off 13 balls.

While Surya was once again in a league of his own, other batters who showed intent but could not go on were opener Ishan Kishan (36 off 31) and number four Shreyas Iyer (13 of 9).

India’s powerplay approach was in focus before the game but not much was delivered on that front, with the team reaching 42 for one in six overs.

It might not look simple to the naked eye but in his own words, Surya kept it “simple” and executed his amazing range of strokes as per the field placements.

If the spinners pitched it full on off stump, he was happy to play the inside-out shot over cover and when the faster bowlers targeted his stumps on a good length, he helped the ball sail past fine leg for a bunch of sixes.

In total, Surya collected 11 fours and seven sixes. He brought up his second T20 century off 49 balls with an aerial drive that went wide of sweeper cover.

Surya went berserk in the penultimate over bowled by Lockie Ferguson, hammering four boundaries and a phenomenal six over deep point. The fast bowler had clearly run out of ideas with Surya on song.

The last five overs yielded 72 runs.

Tim Southee bowled a brilliant 20th over and stemmed the free flow of runs by taking a hat-trick. He dismissed Washington Sundar, Deepak Hooda and Hardik Pandya on the trot.

The likes of Umran Malik, Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill did not get a game on Sunday

Arnab Goswami inflammatory remark: SC to hear Maha govt plea against HC staying probe

November 21, 2022 by Nasheman

Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a plea of the Maharashtra government challenging a Bombay High Court’s 2020 order by which it had suspended a probe into two FIRs filed against Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly making inflammatory comments.

The FIRs pertain to Goswami’s comments during his TV programmes about the Palghar lynching incident and migrants gathering in large numbers in Mumbai’s Bandra area during the Covid-induced lockdown.

A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli will hear the appeal filed by the Maharashtra government.

On October 26, 2020, the top court observed that some people are targeted with “greater intensity” and need more protection.

The Maharashtra government, which was then ruled by Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi, had opposed the high court’s decision to stay the police probe against Goswami.

The top court had sought a response from Goswami and others on the appeal filed by the state government.

In its June 30, 2020 order, the high court noted that while Goswami’s comments targeted Congress and its president, Sonia Gandhi, he did not make any statement that would cause public disharmony or incite violence between different religious groups.

Citing observations made by the Supreme Court that India’s freedom will rest safe as long as journalists can speak to power without being chilled by a threat of reprisal, the high court had said in its order that free citizens cannot exist when the news media is chained to adhere to any one position.

While admitting for final hearing of the petition filed by Goswami seeking to quash the two FIRs, the high court had directed the police not to take any coercive action until the disposal of the plea.

Two FIRs were filed against Goswami — one in Nagpur, which was later transferred to N M Joshi Marg police station in Mumbai following directions from the Supreme Court and another at Pydhonie police station.

The one filed in Nagpur was about a news show aired on the channel on April 21 about the Palghar incident where two religious leaders and their driver were lynched.

The Pydhonie case followed a show aired by Republic TV on April 29 where Goswami had referred to migrants gathering near a mosque outside the Bandra railway terminus during the lockdown.

Gujarat elections: Congress’ Ahmed Patel’s name still holds sway in Bharuch despite AAP factor

November 21, 2022 by Nasheman

BHARUCH: It’s been two years since the Congress’ veteran leader and troubleshooter Ahmed Patel passed away.

But this electoral season in Gujarat, he is still the party’s ace in his native Bharuch district.

While the AAP strives to project itself as the BJP’s main rival in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, the Congress is a significant factor for a seizable section of the people in Bharuch.

“All the developments that you see in Bharuch today are the result of his (Patel’s) efforts. Ahmed Bhai was such a tall figure that no one can ever forget him. He took care of everyone here,” asserts Kashif Malik, a scrap dealer in Piraman the ancestral village of the late Congress leader.

Sarfaraz, another resident of the village who runs a two-wheeler repair shop, echoed Malik’s claim.

“Nobody here in Piraman will vote for any party other than the Congress,” he said.

Patel passed away in a Gurugram hospital on November 25, 2020, due to multi-organ failure post-COVID-19 infection.

The Congress’ top strategist was laid to rest in his native village Piraman the next day in presence of Rahul Gandhi and many other senior leaders of the grand old party.

Piraman village falls under the Ankaleshwar assembly seat which has been with the BJP for 22 years.

It is set to witness a battle between two brothers.

While the BJP has fielded sitting MLA Ishwarsinh Patel from the seat, the Congress has pitted Patel’s elder brother Vijaysinh against him.

But the Aam Aadmi Party’s entry into the fray has turned the elections this time into a three-cornered fight.

In the Ankaleshwar seat where the largest chunk of voters is from the Patel community and Muslims are roughly 30 per cent of the electorate, locals feel the AAP may dent the poll prospects of the Congress most by cutting into its votes especially those of the minority community.

Piraman village borders the Bharuch assembly segment where the people belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) form the largest chunk of voters.

Muslim voters are roughly pegged at about 38 per cent in the Bharuch assembly segment.

The Bharuch district being one of the most industrialised regions in Gujarat, the assembly seat also has a large number of migrant and urban voters.

A few kilometres from Piraman, Mausam Shaikh, who runs an eatery in the Bharuch assembly segment, also remembered the late Congress veteran Ahmed Patel and his “contributions”, but said, “Many here are thinking of voting for the AAP party this time.”

“People want change. Let’s see which way the wind blows.”

While the BJP, which has had the Bharuch Assembly segment with it since 1995, is confident of retaining it, the Congress is banking on the anti-incumbency factor to wrest the seat from the saffron party which is ruling the state for 27 years.

But, the AAP’s foray in Gujarat may upset the electoral calculations this time with many of the locals in the Bharuch assembly segment indicating that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party would eat up the spaces of both the BJP and the Congress in the three-cornered fight.

“The AAP party is seen by many here as an alternative to the Congress and the BJP. But the BJP will eventually emerge victorious here as Bharuch is the party’s stronghold. The AAP will only end up cutting Congress votes here,” Aakash Patel, a local, said.

While the BJP has named Rameshbhai Mistry, a former MLA, as its candidate for the seat, the Congress has fielded Jaykantbhai Patel.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate is Manharbhai Parmar.

Congress district president Parimalsinh Rana said, “We do have some problems in Bharuch city but we are on the strong footing in rural areas. The AAP’s foray will not make much difference to us. Our poll campaign is in full swing in Bharuch and going well.

The BJP’s Bharuch district president Marutisinh Atodariya said it’s a contest between his party’s candidate and that of the Congress in the assembly seat, and the AAP does not stand anywhere.

“There is no Aam Aadmi (Party) here. All (of them) are ‘gair aadmi’ (outsiders),” he told PTI when asked if the entry of AAP in the fray makes any difference to electoral calculations in the assembly segment this time.

The AAP has been wooing the voters in the constituency by showcasing Arvind Kejriwal’s Delhi model of governance and making a host of pre-poll promises which include a “guarantee” to provide free electricity up to 300 units per month, healthcare services, free and quality education.

“We have been carrying out door-to-door campaigns in the constituency and getting very good responses from the people, including those from the minority community. People are upset with the 27-year-long BJP rule and want ‘parivartan’ (change) this time,” AAP candidate Parmar said Polling in Bharuch will be held in the first phase of the Gujarat assembly polls on December 1.

November 21, 2022 by Nasheman

CHENNAI: Chennai and neighbouring districts may experience heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday. The depression is very likely to maintain its intensity and move west-northwestwards slowly, towards north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coastline during the next 48 hours, a Regional Meteorological Centre bulletin said here

The evening bulletin says, “The depression over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal moved nearly northwestward with a speed of 6 kmph during the past 06 hours and lay centered at 600 km east of Karaikal and 630 km southeast of Chennai. It is very likely to maintain its intensity of depression and move slowly westnorthwestwards towards north Tamilnadu, Pondicherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 48 hours.”

Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall is likely to commence from Sunday evening.

On November 21, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet districts of Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry

Heavy rain is expected in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet and Vellore districts on November 22.

Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist of SkyMet Weather Services Pvt Ltd, told TNIE: “The possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall is ruled out. There would be rainfall in the range of 40 mm to 50 mm in Chennai. The system is going to weaken into a well-marked or low-pressure area as it approaches the coast due to dry air pushing from the west. There would be few intense spells, but flooding rains are unlikely.”

Authorities said squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely to prevail over Southwest Bay of Bengal, along and off the Tamil Nadu-Pondicherry coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea till November 23.
