The police summoned him to the station and denied permission citing covid guidelines in force.

The police also told him that he was a former rowdy-sheeter and granting permission will lead to law and order problem.

Heated argument ensued when Mushtaq objected to the remarks of calling him former rowdy-sheeter.

In the melee,PSI,Salman Aralikatti, pulled out his service revolver and punched him on his face at gun point, while the then police Inspector of Siddapura police station who is now posted at Wilson garden police station,A Raju, kicked him on his chest.

50 million doses of Covaxin set to expire in early 2023 due to poor demand

HYDERABAD: Nearly 50 million doses of Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin lying with the firm are set to expire early next year as there are no takers owing to poor demand, company sources said.

Due to lack of product demand, production stoppage of Covaxin- a two dose jab, was initiated by Bharat Biotech earlier this year, though the vaccine maker has established manufacturing to reach an annualised capacity of 1 billion doses at the end of 2021.

“Bharat Biotech has more than 200 million doses of Covaxin in bulk form and approximately 50 million doses in vials ready to use. Due to lack of product demand, production stoppage of Covaxin was initiated several months ago, earlier this year,” sources told PTI.

“Covaxin doses in vials are set to expire during early 2023, resulting in losses for the company,” sources further said.

However, the quantum of loss that the Bharat Biotech would incur in the event of all the 50 million doses expiring next year is not known.

India reported 1,082 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, while the number of active cases declined to 15,200, according to Union health ministry data.

So far, 219.71 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including Covaxin have been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive. As the infection rate has been sturdily declining globally, exports of Covaxin were negatively impacted with poor off take by foreign countries.

“COVID-19 is not considered a threat anymore globally,” sources added. In April this year, the World health Organization (WHO) said it confirmed the suspension of supply of Covaxin through UN procurement agencies and recommended that countries using the vaccine take action as appropriate.

A statement issued by WHO then said the suspension is in response to the outcome of its post EUL (emergency use authorisation) inspection held between March 14- 22, 2022 and the need to conduct process and facility upgrade to address recently identified GMP (good manufacturing practice) deficiencies.

When the COVID-19 infection was at its peak during 2021, the Brazil government suspended its decision to import 20 million doses of Covaxin following a controversy that attracted investigation by authorities in that country.

Bharat Biotech on July 23, 2021 said it terminated the MoU it entered into with Precisa Medicamentos and Envixia Pharmaceuticals LL.C for its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin for Brazilian market.

In December 2021, Bharat Biotech said, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has approved the extension of its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin’s shelf life up to 12 months from the date of manufacture.

ADELIDE: Minnows Netherlands knocked South Africa out of the T20 World Cup with a stunning 13-run win as the Proteas yet again chocked in a big ICC tournament, here on Sunday.

Netherlands dished out a collective batting effort to post a decent 158 for four after being invited to bat and then restricted the Proteas to 145 for eight for their biggest victory in world cricket.

It was Dutch side’s first win against South Africa across any format. South Africa’s defeat secured India’s passage into the semifinals. India have a match to play against Zimbabwe later today in Melbourne.

Netherlands’ win has converted the next match between Pakistan and Bangladesh into a virtual knock-out as the winning team will make it to the knockout stage from Group 2 along with India.

It was Netherlands second win in the Super 12 stage, having defeated Zimbabwe by five wickets earlier.

Chasing a competitive 159, South Africa lost skipper Temba Bavuma (20) and Quinton de Kock (13) early.

Rilee Rossouw (25) got a start before becoming Brandon Glover’s (3/9) first victim as South Africa slipped to 64 for three.

Aiden Markram (17) and David Miller (17) then added 26 runs for the fourth wicket before three quick wickets, including two in one over from Glover, spoilt South Africa’s chances.

Markram was dismissed by Fred Klassen in the 13th over as Stephan Myburgh took an excellent catch at short cover.

Glover then dismissed dangerous Miller and Wayne Parnell in a span of three balls to dent South Africa’s chances as they slumped to 113 for six.

From thereon, it was a herculean task for the likes of Heinrich Klassen and Keshav Maharav to take the side past the finish line as South Africa fell short by 13 runs.

Earlier, Stephan Myburgh (37 off 30) and Max O’Dowd (29) gave the Dutch team a good start, sharing 58 runs for the opening wicket.

Besides the duo, Tom Cooper (35 off 19) and Colin Ackermann (41 not out off 26) scored quick runs to help Netherlands get past the 150-run mark.

Ackermann’s innings was laced with three boundaries and two huge sixes, while Cooper struck two fours and as many hits over the fence.

Leaving aside Anrich Nortje (1/10), none of the South African fast bowlers could inflict any damage on Netherlands with Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi all going for runs.

Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj (2/27) picked up two wickets for the Proteas, while Markram (1/16) accounted for one batter.

KARWAR: A group of Hindu and Muslim friends has come together to install an idol of Lord Krishna and has been worshipping it for the last one month at Habbuwada in Karwar. The youth, who are daily wagers, are worshipping the idol as it is considered auspicious to perform pujas for Lord Krishna during Deepavali by the people of Karwar and surrounding areas.

“This is the first time that we have organised a Krishna puja in our Locality. Our friend Nagraj wanted to worship the idol, saying Krishna is the universal God and people from all communities will be blessed. We all pooled in money for the idol and brought it here. We have been performing pujas on our own, and once done, we will immerse the idol in the sea,” said Shahrukh.

The friends – Nagraj, Babu, Shahrukh, Hritik, Mohammed and Siddiqui – got the clay idol prepared, consecrated it and are now worshipping it. “We have been friends since childhood. We studied together and prayed together. We meet almost every day. We celebrate Muslim festivals and they join us during Hindu festivals,” said Babu.

Their other friends, including Praveen, Nagnath, Ramesh and Akram, contributed Rs 2,000 each and the group spent close to Rs 15,000 for the idol and daily decorations. “We need more money and people are helping us,” he said. Corporator Gajanan Kubde, seeing their enthusiasm, has helped them get the no-objection certificate from the Karwar City Municipality and the police.

“We have just begun it this year. We need to continue it for the next five years,” said Mohammed. Though the event was quiet when it began, it has been drawing big crowds now. The group is planning a grand event when the idol is immersed in December.

November 7, 2022 by Nasheman

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan-PTI

KOCHI: Amidst the ongoing tussle between the Raj Bhavan and the Left government, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Monday alleged that a system of “oligarchy” is prevailing in CPI(M)-ruled state and it was evident from the incidents of party cadres being appointed in government jobs.

He made this remark while referring to the reports of a purported letter from the Thiruvananthapuram Mayor’s office asking the “priority list” of CPI(M) cadres to be appointed in temporary posts in the civic body.

“The letter which is being discussed in the press is not the first of its kind. Many such letters exist with people. They have become like an oligarchy in Kerala,” the Governor said.

He also claimed that the people were asking are all the jobs under Kerala government reserved for cadres and the university jobs for powerful people in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Governor, while talking to reporters here, also claimed that the CPI(M) central leadership has distanced itself from Finance Minister K N Balagopal’s remarks allegedly affecting the unity of the country.

He had earlier accused Balagopal of violating his oath of office and informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that the minister has ceased to enjoy his “pleasure”.

Khan had asked the Chief Minister to take action which is “constitutionally appropriate”.

The Governor spoke to the media after making sure that the media crew of CPI(M)-controlled “Kairali News” and Kozhikode-based “Media One” channel leave the venue.

He said he would not speak to mediapersons of the two channels alleging that they are cadres who masquerade as media.

2020 Delhi riots: Court imposes cost of Rs 5,000 on prosecution for ‘deliberate inaction’

November 5, 2022 by Nasheman

New Delhi: A court hearing a case related to the 2020 northeast Delhi riots imposed a cost of Rs 5,000 on the prosecution on Friday for causing adjournment because of its “deliberate inaction”.

The court was hearing arguments on the point of charge against three accused for various offences, including rioting.

“For causing adjournment for today out of deliberate inaction, a cost of Rs 5,000 is imposed upon the prosecution…,” Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala said.

The court said that during the hearing of the case, the special public prosecutor (SPP) sought pass-over twice on the grounds that the investigating officer was on his way to court.

When the court called for the third time, the SPP said no one had appeared from the Gokulpuri police station and the mobile phone of the IO was switched off, it said.

The court noted that in the present case, the IO and the Station House Officer concerned had taken adjournment and time for filing a supplementary charge sheet along with a fresh site plan to show the route taken by the mob, which was allegedly behind the incidents of rioting being investigated.

The plea seeking adjournment was being taken since July 23, 2022, and was also made on the last date of hearing on September 21, the court said.

“The court had been giving time to the IO leniently, so as to do the needful, but in vain and at the same time, I cannot leave it at the mercy of the SHO or the IO, to do the needful as per the requirement of the case,” the judge said.

The judge then referred the matter to the deputy commissioner of police, northeast district, to ensure the filing of the supplementary charge sheet on the proper site plan under his supervision on the next date of hearing on December 15.

“Copy of this order be sent to the DCP for compliance, with the request to make an inquiry to fix accountability of such lapse, if any, and to recover the amount of cost, so that the public exchequer is not burdened,” the court said.

Yati Narsinghanand, the priest of Ghaziabad’s Dasna Devi temple

Ghaziabad (UP): The Uttar Pradesh Police has issued a notice to Yati Narsinghanand, the priest of Ghaziabad’s Dasna Devi temple, instructing him not to organise a “dharma sansad” and a preparatory meeting for which permission has not been obtained from the district administration, a senior officer said.

Narsinghanand, who often triggers controversy with his provocative remarks, has called the three-day “dharma sansad” beginning December 17, the birth anniversary of former BJP MP Baikunth Lal Sharma.

A preparatory meeting has been called on December 6 to chalk out plans for the three-day event.

Ghaziabad Superintendent of Police (Rural) Iraj Raja said, “Without permission, the police will not permit the three-day-long ‘dharma sansad’ which hundreds of seers are expected to attend. Also, providing security to them would be a tough task.”

Furthermore, prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144 have been enforced in the district in view of civic body elections, the police officer said.

The police served notice on Narsinghanand on Thursday instructing him not to organise the “dharma sansad” and the preparatory meeting.

In a press statement, the priest said, “Dharma Sansad will be held in the temple premises that is why no permission is required for it. And, it is not being held for the first time. We will organise it at any cost. If police and administration create hindrance, seers will lodge their protest.”

Mohammad Nabi quits as Afghanistan skipper after winless T20 World Cup exit

Mohammad Nabi quits as Afghanistan skipper after winless T20 World Cup exit

Adelaide: Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi on Friday stepped down from his position with immediate effect, following the side’s debacle in the T20 World Cup where they failed to win a single match.

Nabi though cited his disappointment with the team’s preparation for the showpiece and disagreements with the management and selection committee for quitting captaincy.

Shortly after the team ended their campaign at the T20 World Cup with a narrow four-run loss against Australia here, the 37-year-old took to social media to announce his decision.

“Our T20 World Cup journey came to an end, with a result that not us nor our supporters were expecting. We are as frustrated as you are with the outcome of matches,” the spin allrounder wrote in a statement shared on his Twitter account.

Following their loss to Australia, Afghanistan became the only team to stay winless in the tournament with three defeats and two no-results. They finished at the bottom of Super 12 Group I with two points.

“From the last one year, our team preparation was not to a level that a captain would want it or needed for a big tournament,” he wrote.

“Moreover, in some of the last tours the team management, selection committee and I were not on the same page which had implications on the team balance.

“Therefore, with due respect, effectively immediately I announce to STEP DOWN as a CAPTAIN & will continue to play for my country when the management & team need me.”

Nabi, who had taken over the captaincy just before the T20 World Cup in the UAE last year after Rashid Khan’s resignation, thanked his supporters.

“I thank every single one of you from the bottom of my heart who came to the grounds despite matches being affected by the rain and those who supporters us worldwide, your love truly means a lot to us. Long live Afghanistan.”

Nabi, who was earlier named captain in 2010, led Afghanistan in 23 games in his latest stint with the team winning 10 and losing 13 matches.

Afghanistan’s most capped player, Nabi, has played three Tests, 133 ODIs and 104 T20Is, scoring a total of 4362 runs and snapping 234 wickets.
