“Muslims don’t worship Goddess Lakshmi, are they not…” Bihar BJP MLA sparks controversy

October 20, 2022 by Nasheman

PATNA: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Bihar Lalan Paswan courted controversy by making bizarre statements about Hindu deities.Paswan’s statement sparked an outrage. People held a protest at Shermari Bazar in Bhagalpur and burnt the effigy of the BJP MLA.

Paswan, who is an MLA from Pirpainti Assembly constituency in Bhagalpur district raised questions on Hindu beliefs and argued with evidence to prove his stance.

He further raised questions on Lakshmi Puja on Diwali.

Paswan said, “If we get wealth only by worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, then there would have been no billionaires and trillionaires among Muslims. Muslims do not worship Goddess Lakshmi, are they not rich? Muslims do not worship Goddess Saraswati. Are there no scholars among Muslims? Do not they become IAS or IPS?”

The BJP leader said everything is people’s belief. He said the affair of “Atma and Paramatma” is just people’s belief.

He said, “If you believe then it is a goddess and if not then it is just a stone idol. It is up to us whether we believe in Gods and Goddesses or not. We have to think on a scientific basis to reach a logical conclusion. If you stop believing, then your intellectual capacity will increase.”

“It is believed that Bajrangbali is a deity with power and bestows strength. Muslims or Christians do not worship Bajrangbali. Are they not powerful? The day you stop believing, all these things will end,” added Paswan.

Earlier, Paswan came to light when he allegedly leaked a personal conversation with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav

October 20, 2022 by Nasheman

Nasheman News

WASHINGTON: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has said it is an honour for him to receive the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award and he looks forward to continuing to work with people across India to help them use technology to achieve more.

Nadella, who plans to visit India next January, formally received the award for distinguished service, from India’s Consul General in San Francisco, Dr T.V Nagendra Prasad, last week.

The 55-year-old CEO of Microsoft was named one of 17 awardees earlier this year. On receiving the award, Nadella said: It’s an honour to receive a Padma Bhushan Award and to be recognised by so many extraordinary people.

“I’m thankful to the President, Prime Minister, and people of India, and look forward to continuing to work with people across India to help them use technology to achieve more.”

During the meeting, Nadella discussed with Prasad the critical role digital technology plays in empowering inclusive growth in India.

The discussion focused on India’s growth trajectory and the country’s potential to be a global political and technology leader, according to Microsoft.

” We are living in a period of historic economic, societal and technological change,” said Nadella following his meeting with Dr Prasad.

” The next decade will be defined by digital technology. Indian industries and organisations of every size are turning to technology to help them do more with less, which will ultimately lead to greater innovation, agility and resilience,”  Nadella said.

Hyderabad-born Nadella was named CEO of Microsoft in February 2014.

In June 2021 he was also named the company’s Chairman, an additional role in which he will lead the work to set the agenda for the board.

The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honours of India announced annually on the eve of Republic Day.

The Awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher order) and Padma Shri (distinguished service).

The award seeks to recognise achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved.

The Padma Awards are conferred on the recommendations made by the Padma Awards Committee, which is constituted by the Prime Minister every year.

Nadella plans to visit India in January 2023, his first visit to the country in nearly three years, Microsoft said.

Bommai targets Congress over encroachment of wakf properties

October 20, 2022 by Nasheman

KALABURAGI: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday hit out at the Congress over the issue of alleged encroachment of wakf properties in Karnataka.

Addressing the BJP’s Jana Sankalpa Yatra at Mahagaon in Kamalapur taluk, Bommai said that the State Government will probe the matter on the basis of the Anwar Manippady report on the misuse of wakf properties. He questioned the Minority community members how they could believe a party (Congress) which played a role in encroachment of wakf properties.

“The Anwar Manippady committee, which studied the encroachment of wakf properties in Karnataka, has submitted its report to the government. We will probe the matter on the basis of this report.

The BJP government is not against the Minority community,” Bommai said. On his government increasing SC/ST reservation, Bommai said the Congress that claims to champion the cause of Dalits failed to increase the quota during its rule. “Siddaramaiah calls himself the leader of AHINDAs… he has to introspect as to whether the AHINDA voters are still with him as hindulida (Backward) and Dalit voters have deserted him. Minorities too are also losing faith in the Congress,” the CM added. “We have launched the Sankalpa Yatra now.

After the 2023 Assembly elections, we will launch Vijaya Yatra (Victory rally),” he said. Meanwhile, Bommai reiterated that his government is committed to the welfare of the Kalyana-Karnataka region. “Our government has sanctioned Rs 3,000 crore to Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board. An additional Rs 5,000 crore will be sanctioned next year.

The government has already announced that it will construct 2,000 classrooms in the region. Sanction has also been given for procuring 316 buses to KKRTC. Bommai also announced that the government will establish a textile park in Raichur and Kalaburagi and a pharmaceutical park in Yadgir district As CM Bommai was addressing the gathering, it started to rain heavily causing trouble to those who had gathered. The CM thanked the people for listening to his speech amid the rain and bless the BJP in the next Assembly polls.

CM: RAHUL GANDHI WILL NEVER BECOME PM

Yadgir: CM Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday took a dig at Rahul Gandhi saying the latter “does not know anything about the country nor knows the languages spoken in different states” and hence will never become the PM. Bommai was speaking at the UKP camp in Hunasagi town in Yadgir district. On the ‘PayCM’ campaign by Congress workers, Bommai said, “Let them agitate. They do not have much work to do. We are responsible for developing the state.”

Congress revs up #SayCM campaign

BENGALURU: After the ‘PayCM’ campaign, Congress leaders are trying to put the government on the mat with the ‘SayCM’ campaign. Opposition leader Siddaramaiah lashed out at CM Bommai, tweeting, “@ BSBommai has stated that he will send the details of corruption of @INCKarnataka leaders to Shri @RahulGandhi. @BSBommai should not forget that @narendramodi is the PM now, and not Shri Rahul Gandhi. #SayCM.’’ The Congress is using the hashtag ‘SayCM’ to allege that the BJP does not keep its assurances.

Many times UP cops arrest innocent, claims top Uttarakhand officer

October 19, 2022 by Nasheman

Many times UP cops arrest innocent, claims top Uttarakhand officer
Uttarakhand Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturtri

Dehradun/Lucknow: Uttarakhand Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi got into a war of words with the Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday with the latter accusing her of making “irresponsible” statements, days after an unsuccessful raid in the hill state to nab an alleged sand mining mafia led to the death of a local BJP leader’s wife.

At a press conference, Uttarakhand’s Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi said crimes should be investigated properly and the guilty should be punished, not the innocent.

“Many times, the Uttar Pradesh Police catch innocent persons and claim they are guilty. It should not be like that. Catching one innocent person may lead to the rise of 99 more wrongdoers,” she said.

Taking strong exception to the statement, the Uttar Pradesh Police termed it “irresponsible” and suggested that a civil servant should refrain from such comments.

In Lucknow, Additional Director General, (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said, “The Uttar Pradesh Police has seen and heard the statement of the additional chief secretary, home, Uttarakhand. The ACS has issued an irresponsible statement without knowing the facts. Any civil servant should avoid such statements especially when it is related to the matter of the country’s biggest and sensitive state.”

“This statement is regrettable and not based on facts. Does Mukthar Ansari and Vijay Mishra convicted by the courts appear innocent to the ACS?”

“Does Zafar, a mining mafia, who is wanted or senior block head of Udham Singh Nagar appears innocent for her? The statement is unfortunate as the UP police has taken strict action against criminals in the state and also against PFI,” he said.

Later, Raturi clarified that she wanted to say that “crimes should be investigated properly and only the guilty should be punished, not the innocent. Police of all states are performing well. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand police often work together to solve crimes.”

The Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand police are locked in a standoff over an unsuccessful raid a few days ago.

The police had attempted to arrest sand mining mafia Zafar and his associates from Bharatpur village of Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand on October 12 night, but a clash broke out between the police team and villagers.

In the clash, the wife of a local BJP leader was killed and five others, including four Uttar Pradesh Police personnel, were injured. Several police personnel were also held captive by villagers in Bharatpur and were freed following the intervention of senior police officials.

Udham Singh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police had claimed that the Uttar Pradesh Police team did not inform their Uttarakhand counterparts about the action in advance.

Zafar was arrested on Sunday from Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad.

At the press conference on Monday, when asked about the deadline of three days given to police officials for solving three crime cases in the state, Raturi said there is no ultimatum. They have been asked to investigate the cases properly and punish the guilty, she said.

She also blamed the media for the “high morale” of criminals in the state, saying if it was reported that action was being taken, their morale would not have been so high.

India will play Asia Cup at neutral venue: BCCI secretary Jay Shah

India will play Asia Cup at neutral venue: BCCI secretary Jay Shah
Jay Shah

Mumbai : BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday made it clear that India will play Asia Cup next year at a neutral venue.

The 2023 edition, which will be played in the 50 over format ahead of the ODI World Cup in India, has been allotted to Pakistan. “We have decided to play at a neutral venue,” Shah was quoted as saying by multiple cricket websites after the conclusion of BCCI AGM.

The Asia Cup being held at neutral venues is not unprecedented. Shah also happens to be the Asian Cricket Council president, after the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) here. He was re-elected as secretary for a second term.

The 2022 Asia Cup was held in the UAE last month after hosts Sri Lanka expressed their inability to host the event amid the economic crisis back home.

India and Pakistan only play each other in Asia Cup and global events due to political tensions between the two countries. Both teams played twice in the Asia Cup last month and are set to clash in Melbourne on October 23 in the T20 World Cup.

BCCI’s cash reserves grew by approx Rs 6000 crore in last 3 years ;

At the AGM, outgoing treasurer and new IPL chairman Arun Dhumal informed the state units that the BCCI’s treasury grew from Rs 3648 crore to Rs 9629 crore in the last three years.

The Ganguly-led regime had taken charge in 2019 after the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators’ 33-month tenure.

“When the current team took over the reins of the BCCI in 2019, the BCCI’s coffers had funds of Rs 3648 crore. We are handing over an organisation that sits over a treasury that has Rs 9629 crore of funds which is roughly thrice of what we got at the time of our taking over from COA,” said Dhumal in his speech.

“The disbursement to the state associations has seen a jump of nearly five times, from Rs 680 crore in the COA time to Rs 3295 crore now,” he added.

CM Bommai likely to meet BJP high command soon to discuss cabinet expansion

CM Bommai likely to meet BJP high command soon to discuss cabinet expansion
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai

Bengaluru : Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said he has sought appointment with the BJP central leadership this week to discuss the much-awaited expansion or rejig of his cabinet, and will be heading to New Delhi as soon as he gets communication from them.

BJP national General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka Arun Singh had recently said, cabinet exercise is the prerogative of the Chief Minister and he would decide on it.

“I have sought time (with central leaders) this week amids the Jana Sankalpa Yatre (by BJP in the state), once I get the appointment, I will go this week itself,” Bommai said in response to a question regarding his travel to New Delhi to discuss with BJP high command the cabinet expansion.

The CM has been under intense pressure for some time now, over expansion and rejig of Cabinet not taking place, to make way for the fresh faces, ahead of assembly elections next year.

Though there were reports of Cabinet expansion by filling in six vacant posts or some kind of a rejig by dropping a few and inducting equal number of new faces, also talks that- Gujarat like complete top to bottom overhaul of the state ministry- may take place, nothing has happened so far, and many aspirants feel it is “too late now” with polls fast approaching.

Supreme Court says Gujarat govt’s reply in Bilkis Bano case very bulky

Supreme Court says Gujarat govt's reply in Bilkis Bano case very bulky
Bilkis Bano

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday remarked the Gujarat government’s reply to pleas challenging the remission granted to 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gang-rape case is very bulky wherein a series of judgments have been quoted but factual statements are missing.

The top court granted time to the petitioners to file their response to the Gujarat government’s affidavit and said it will hear on November 29 the pleas challenging the remission of sentence and release of convicts in the 2002 case also involving the murder of seven members of her family during the Gujarat riots.

“I have not come across a counter affidavit where a series of judgments are quoted. Factual statement should have been made. A very bulky counter. Where is the factual statement, where is the application of mind?” a bench headed by Justice Ajay Rastogi observed.

The bench, also comprising Justice C T Ravikumar, directed that the reply filed by the Gujarat government be made available to all parties.

Senior CPI(M) leader Subhashini Ali and two other women have filed the PIL against the remission of sentence of the convicts and their release.

At the outset, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the petitioners, submitted that he needed time to file the response.

Justice Rastogi observed that even before he could go through the Gujarat government’s reply, it was visible in the newspapers.

Addressing Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Justices Rastogi said he has not come across a counter affidavit where a series of judgments have been quoted.

Mehta concurred with the observation and said it could have been avoided. “The judgments were mentioned for easy reference, it could have been avoided,” Mehta said.

The Solicitor General submitted strangers and third parties cannot raise the challenge to the remission of sentence and release of the convicts.

The apex court then granted time to the petitioners and posted the matter for hearing on November 29.

The Gujarat government had on Monday defended in the apex court its decision to release the convicts in accordance with the 1992 remission policy since they had completed more than 14 years in prison and their conduct was found to be good.

It also clarified the convicts were not granted remission in consonance with the circular for grant of remission to prisoners as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations.

The state home department said all the convicts had completed more than 14 years in prison under life imprisonment.

“Opinions of the concerned authorities have been obtained as per the policy of July 9, 1992 and submitted to the ministry of home affairs, government of India, vide letter dated June 28, 2022, and sought the approval/suitable orders of India,” the affidavit stated.

The Gujarat government told the top court the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, approved the premature release of the convicts vide letter dated July 11, 2022.

The reply also disclosed the proposal for the premature release of the convicts was opposed by the Superintendent of Police, CBI, Special Crime Branch, Mumbai and the Special Civil Judge (CBI), City Civil and Sessions Court, Greater Bombay.

Bilkis Bano was 21 years old and five-month pregnant when she was gang-raped while fleeing the riots that broke out after the Godhra train burning incident. Her three-year-old daughter was among the seven family members killed.

The 11 men convicted in the case walked out free from the Godhra sub-jail on August 15 after the Gujarat government allowed their release under its remission policy.

The 11 convicts granted premature release are Jaswantbhai Nai, Govindbhai Nai, Shailesh Bhatt, Radheshyam Shah, Bipin Chandra Joshi, Kesarbhai Vohania, Pradeep Mordhiya, Bakabhai Vohania, Rajubhai Soni, Mitesh Bhatt, and Ramesh Chandana.

The investigation in the case was handed over to the CBI and the trial was transferred to a Maharashtra court by the Supreme Court.

A special CBI court in Mumbai had on January 21, 2008 sentenced the 11 to life imprisonment on charges of gang-rape of Bilkis Bano and murder of seven members of her family.

Their conviction was later upheld by the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court.

The state government had submitted its reply to a PIL filed by CPI(M) leader Subhashini Ali, Revati Laul, an independent journalist, and Roop Rekha Verma, who is a former vice chancellor of the Lucknow University.

The Gujarat government’s affidavit had said, “A bare perusal of the circumstances in which the present petition is filed manifest that the petitioner is not an aggrieved person but a mere interloper, who has invoked Article 32 jurisdiction vested with this court under the Constitution of India, for extraneous purpose”.

Referring to a 1976 verdict of the apex court, the state government said a person aggrieved should be one who has personal and individual right in the subject matter and that there is infringement of the said legal right or prejudice to some legal interest.

The affidavit noted the petitioner being a “third-party stranger”, has no locus to challenge the remission order passed by the competent authority as per applicable law in the instant case under the “garb of PIL”.

The state government had said it is its bona fide belief that the present petition is nothing but an abuse of PIL jurisdiction of this court and is motivated by “political intrigues and machinations”.

On September 25, a convict Radhey Shyam had also questioned the locus standi of the petitioners challenging the remission given to him and the 10 other convicts in the case, saying they are “complete strangers” in the matter.

On August 25, the top court had sought responses from the Centre and the Gujarat government to the petition challenging the remission granted to the 11 convicts in the case.
