Virat Kohli, one of the most-followed individuals on Instagram with an astounding fanbase of 257 million, has taken a proactive stance against the spread of misinformation related to him.
Renowned for his prolific batting skills, Kohli has also emerged as a vocal advocate against false news. In a recent development, he refuted claims of constructing a cricket pitch at his Alibaug farmhouse alongside his wife, actress Anushka Sharma.
In response to a report, Kohli shared a screenshot and expressed his dismay, stating, “Bachpan se jo akhbar Padha hai, wo bhi fake news chaapne lage ab” (Newspapers I’ve been reading since childhood have also started publishing fake news).
As reported by a prominent national daily on Monday, the power couple invested a substantial sum of Rs 19.24 crore to acquire an 8-acre plot of land in Alibaug with the intention of building a farmhouse. The report further revealed Virat’s desire to incorporate a cricket pitch on the property, highlighting his keen involvement in every aspect of the construction process.
Earlier this week, media outlets buzzed with reports suggesting that Kohli commands an eye-popping fee of INR 11.45 crore per post on Instagram. Swiftly responding to these rumors, the former Indian captain took to his official social media account to quell the misinformation.
While expressing gratitude for his life’s blessings, Kohli posted, “While I am grateful and indebted to all that I’ve received in life, the news that has been making rounds about my social media earnings is not true.”
Having recently returned from the West Indies tour, where he was rested for the T20I series, Virat Kohli is now gearing up for the upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled to commence on August 30. The much-anticipated cricket tournament will kick off with a high-stakes clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 in Pallekele.
