The Light Combat Aircraft, known as Tejas, took to the skies for the first time after being inducted into IAF, with Army chief Bipin Rawat onboard, at the Aero India 2019 in Bengaluru on Thursday. The Indian Air Force gave clearance to the aircraft on Wednesday.
The indigenously developed multirole fighter aircraft has been developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Tejas is primarily meant to replace the MiG 21. The Tejas is powered by a General Electric F414 engine.
