May 31, 2024 by Nasheman

Bhopal: A 32-year-old IT professional being treated for depression and back pain allegedly committed suicide in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh after wrapping a polythene bag tightly around his face and inhaling nitrogen from his mouth through a pipe, a police official said on Thursday.

As per police, Siddharth Khurana, who ended his life on Tuesday, left behind a 4-page suicide note in English in which he detailed his failures and said he was sick of living a “miserable life”.

Quoting from the suicide note, police sources said the deceased had dwelt at length about surfing the internet to find out ways for an easy death.

After reading about hanging, consuming poison etc, he opted for inhaling nitrogen gas as it kills within 40 seconds, police sources said.

In the note, Khurana has mentioned actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who committed suicide in Mumbai in June 2020, Misrod police station inspector Manishraj Bhadauriya told PTI but refused to elaborate.

“After being alerted, we entered Khurana’s house, which was bolted from inside, on Tuesday,” the official said.

An image of Khurana, clad in shorts and a black t-shirt, lying dead with a polythene bag around his face and a nitrogen cylinder nearby went viral on social media.

“Khurana hailed from Lucknow and was living in the house alone after his live-in partner left him a fortnight ago. He was employed with a a reputed IT company and was working from home since November. As per our probe, he was being treated for depression and back pain. The short post mortem report is awaited,” Bhadauriya said.

“We will record the statement of his girlfriend. The body has been handed over to the kin,” he added.

Heartbreaking loss of civilian lives: India on Israeli airstrike in Rafah
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal

New Delhi: India on Thursday described as “heartbreaking” the loss of civilian lives in an Israeli strike in the southern Gaza city of Rafah and called for respecting international humanitarian law in the ongoing conflict.

Local officials in Gaza said 45 people were killed in the May 26 air strike, most of them sheltering in tents. The strike triggered massive global outrage including criticism from some of Israel’s closest allies.

“The heartbreaking loss of civilian lives in the displacement camp in Rafah is a matter of deep concern for us,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

“We have consistently called for protection of the civilian population and respect for international humanitarian law in the ongoing conflict,” he said.

Jaiswal was responding to a question on the situation in Gaza at his weekly media briefing.

“We also note that the Israeli side has already accepted responsibility for it as a tragic incident and announced an investigation into the incident,” he said.

On Spain, Ireland and Norway recognising Palestine in the midst of the conflict, Jaiswal said India had done that way back in the 1980s.

“India recognised Palestine way back in the 1980s. It has been our long-standing position that we support a two state solution which entails the establishment of a sovereign, viable, and independent state of Palestine within recognised and mutually agreed borders, living side by side with Israel in peace,” he said.

Israel has been continuing its military offensive in Gaza as part of its retaliation to the unprecedented attack on Israeli cities by Hamas on October 7.

Hamas killed around 1,200 people in Israel and kidnapped more than 220 others some of whom were released during a brief ceasefire.

Over 35,000 people have been killed in Gaza in the Israeli offensive, according to the Hamas-run authorities in Gaza.

India has been calling for de-escalation of the situation and creating conditions for an early resumption of direct peace negotiations towards a two-state solution to the Palestine issue.

DK Shivakumar claims ‘Shatru Bhairavi Yaga’ performed against him, CM and Cong govt

May 31, 2024 by Nasheman

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday claimed that a ritual named ”Shatru Bhairavi Yaga”, which involves the sacrifice of animals, is being performed at a temple in Kerala, targeting him, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Congress government in the state.

The state Congress chief, without revealing any names, alleged that some political people in Karnataka were getting it done, and Aghoris (monastic order of ascetic Shaivite sadhus) were being consulted for it.

”A big experiment is going on against me in Kerala and our government. Someone has given (details) about it to me in writing, about the pooja that is going on. Someone gave me in writing as to where it is being done and who is doing it,” Shivakumar said, when asked about a bracelet he was wearing. Speaking to reporters here, he alleged that it is being done against him and the chief minister.

”Shatru Bhairavi Yaga is being performed near Rajarajeshwari temple in Kerala for Shatru Samhara (destruction of enemies). For this yaga ‘Pancha Bali’ (five kinds of sacrifice) is being given…21 goats, three buffaloes, 21 black sheeps, five pigs….Aghoris are being approached. It is going on,” he added.

Further stating that those involved in the ritual have informed him, as to who is getting the yaga done in Kerala, and by whom, the Deputy CM said, ”it is their effort, why should I bother?” Asked if he believes in such yagas and rituals, he said, ”It is based on one’s belief…let them do any experiment against me, there is a Shakti in which I believe in, it will save me.” To a question whether BJP or JD(S) people are doing it, Shivakumar said, ”I know who is doing it, who is getting it done, they are experts in it….I don’t want to talk much as you (media) will take it to somewhere else. You, too, would know who it is.” Responding to a question about whether political people are behind it, he said, ”if not political people, who else will do it? Check near Rajarajeshwari temple (you will know).” ”More than their yaga, I have the blessings of God and people, also my belief ,” he said, adding that someone gave him the bracelet and hence he was wearing it.

When asked if he will be performing any pooja or rituals to counter it, Shivakumar said, every day he prays to God for a minute with folded hands, before leaving for work. ”That’s the reason I have this much strength and protection.”

Police complaint filed against PM Modi over Mahatma Gandhi remarks

May 31, 2024 by Nasheman

Guwahati National Award-winning filmmaker Luit Kumar Barman has filed a police complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his controversial comments on Mahatma Gandhi.

Barman filed the complaint on Wednesday night at Hatigaon police station in Guwahati, alleging that Modi made a “highly derogatory statement” about the Father of the Nation.

The police said a preliminary investigation is on and no FIR was registered yet in this connection.

Prime Minister Modi in a TV interview to a TV channel said, “…Across the world, Mahatma Gandhi was a great person. Was it not our responsibility in these 75 years to ensure that the entire world knows Mahatma Gandhi. I am sorry to say that no one knows about him. The first time when the film ‘Gandhi’ was made, it was then that there was curiosity across the world as to who this person was. We have not done so…”

In his complaint, Barman said, “This is a highly derogatory statement and cannot be acceptable by a citizen of India. As a citizen, we can not accept insult to Mahatma Gandhi.”

No film is required to introduce him to the world, said Barman who produced the 2021 Assamese film ‘Boomba Ride’ which won the Rajat Kamal.

“By comparing Mahatma Gandhi with a film, Narendra Modi has defamed Mahatma Gandhi along with the people of India. Therefore, I request you to take action against Narendra Modi under relevant section of law,” Barman said.

When contacted, Hatigaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Bijay Duwara told PTI that no FIR has been registered and a “preliminary investigation” is going on.

May 31, 2024 by Nasheman

Balasore (Odisha) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said renowned figures like Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Albert Einstein drew inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi.

He made these remarks during a political gathering in Odisha’s Balasore district.

Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertion that the world only learned of Mahatma Gandhi through the film ‘Gandhi,’ Rahul Gandhi criticised those affiliated with the RSS, suggesting their lack of understanding regarding Gandhi’s legacy.

“Whose training is done in ‘sakha’ of RSS, they are followers of Godse, they do not know anything about Gandhiji. They do not know about the history of Hindustan, truth and violence. This is expected that the PM will tell that the world does not know anything about Gandhiji,” he said.

He emphasised that people like Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Einstein, along with various freedom movements, found inspiration in Gandhi’s principles.

“Martin Luther King Jr., Mandelaji, Einstein and many others took inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi. Different movements, freedom movements also took inspiration from Gandhiji. Children of India also get inspiration from Gandhiji,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi concluded by saying further comments on the matter were unnecessary.

“There is no need to make more comments (on the subject). Their world is in their sakha,” Rahul Gandhi said.
