BIG FM, one of India’s largest radio networks has announced the launch of its new show “The 90’s Show with Anu Malik”.

“The 90’s Show With Anu Malik” content revolving around the era of the 90’s to the early 2000’s will also mark the BIG FM’s radio network’s transition into adult contemporary music format.

In keeping with its renewed identity & fortifying its promise of providing more Hit music, the Big FM station will offer songs from the said era. The music director & singer entertained the audiences at the event by singing his hit numbers from the 90’s. The actor says he loved being part of the project as he is aware of the audience’s expectations from the film. “It was amazing to rejoin the Tiger & Zoya. I was so enthusiastic and felt excited and on top of the world. Of course, we have all put in a lot of effort in the film as we know the high expectations people have from this film,” he says. The film has a lot of action sequences, and Gavie Chahal has some favourite ones. “I play the same character of ISI agent captain Abrar, in Tiger Zinda Hai too. So I already knew the nuances of the character but I still underwent workshops for weapons training & physical strength under Hollywood action director Tom Struthers. There was one big action scene with Salman Khan that fascinated me the most. It was a long sequence which had to be shot in 1 take and had lots of blasts. But with the grace of God, we did it perfectly with 1 Hour – 2 hours of rehearsals in 1 take,” he says.

Karan Oberoi’s Twitter account was hacked recently but his luck saved him, as he was informed well on time about the mishap. The account was hacked on 22nd Nov, 2017 during the day. As Karan Oberoi was busy attending IFFI and the screening of his upcoming flick, he hardly got a moment to notice it. It was only after he received a call from a friend, Karan Oberoi got to know about the hack. The person informed him about the irrelevant & objectionable content sent to her from the actor’s account. His IT team confirmed the hack and took no time to recover the account. Karan Oberoi tweeted to assure about things that were once again back on track. His tweet reads, “OMG! Why in the world would MY twitter be hacked ?????! For all the folks here who were concerned, we are back in business! ” Karan Oberoi’s publicist confirmed that though the account was hacked, a team of professionals reacted spontaneously to get control of the twitter account. “Though some inappropriate messages & content were sent to few of his friends & colleagues, thankfully, everything came under control before it could cause serious harm to anyone. Karan Oberoi is not going to take any legal action against the hackers as nothing destructive or harmful has been done by the hackers.”

DESHIK VANSADIA BRINGS SHAKESPEARE’S PLAY “THE TAMING OF THE SHREW” TO MUMBAI

Taking a leaf from his book, “What’s In A Name”, an upcoming theatre company helmed by producer Kanupriya Pandit is gearing up in staging a Shakespearean English comedy, “The Taming Of The Shrew”, in Jan, 2018. The play is being directed by Deshik Vansadia who will also perform a starring role in it too. The main plot surrounds themes of courtship & relationship. It also highlights the gender equality between a man & a woman. The novel concept to be noted about the play being staged is that the men will play the women’s roles while the women will portray the men’s roles. Deshik Vansadia trained as an actor at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York for 3 consecutive years. During his stay in America, he also had the privilege of training at the renowned institution Shakespeare & Company for 2 more years. Deshik Vansadia built upon his acting tutelage, securing versatile roles in plays, music albums, television serials, films and even commercials too. Dish TV & Videocon D2h Merger Deal Concludes

The ministry of information & broadcasting (MIB) has approved the merger between direct to home (DTH) platforms Dish TV India & Videocon d2h. The MIB vide its letter dated 15th Dec, 2017 has approved the requests made by the company for completion of the transaction. This paves way for the creation of the largest listed media company in India taking into consideration the last reported revenue & EBITDA numbers of the 2 DTH players on a pro -forma basis.

The channels which are imparting only Yoga & Spiritual Discourse will also be treated as regional channels for fee purpose only. This order will come into force with immediate effect.

Kerala based multi system operator (MSO) KCCL (Kerala Communications Cable Ltd) has an ambitious broadcast business plan that includes launching general entertainment, news & education channels with an investment of Rs 100 crore over the next 2 years. The broadcast business is under a sister concern Keralavision Channel Broadcasting Ltd (KCBL). Praveen Mohan is the chairman of the company while Rajamohanan Mambra is the MD. The 1st channel to launch from the KCBL stable is Malayalam GEC Kerala Vision.

TRAI Floats Consultation Paper

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a consultation paper on “Issues relating to Uplinking & Downlinking Television Channels in India” after receiving a reference from the ministry of information & broadcasting (MIB) to look into the matter as the existing guidelines are more than 5 years old. The authority has sought comments & counter – comments from stakeholders on a range of issues including net worth of eligible companies, grant of license for satellite channels, entry fee / licence fee, encryption of TV channels & transfer of license amongst others.

DAVP Spent Rs 315.04 Crores

The directorate of advertising & visual publicity (DAVP), the nodal agency of the Government of India for advertising, spent Rs 315.04 crores on TV channels in 2016 -2017. This is higher than the Rs 281.85 crores spent in 2015 – 2016 & Rs 268.05 crores in 2014 – 2015. The DAVP spent Rs 145.57 crores on private FM radio. The same was Rs 94.54 crores in 2015 – 2016 & Rs 69.02 crores in 2014 – 2015. The ad spends on radio / AIR was Rs 37 crores up from Rs 17.09 crore in 2015 – 2016 & Rs 28.89 crores in 2014 – 2015.

Zee Media To Re – Enters The UP Market

Zee Media Corporation Ltd (ZMCL) re – enters the Uttar Pradesh / Uttarakhand market with the launch of Zee Uttar Pradesh / Uttarakhand on 20th Dec, 2017. The tagline of the channel is “Khabar Mein Rahiye”, which roughly translates to stay in the news. Videocon D2h To Delist

Direct to home (DTH) operator Videocon d2h will voluntarily delist its American Depositary Shares (ADS) from the Nasdaq Global Market and to deregister with US Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) in connection with its amalgamation with Dish TV India. The delisting of the Videocon d2h ADS’s from Nasdaq is expected to take effect on or about 3rd Jan, 2018, after close of business.

TDSAT Extends Interim Relief

Raj Tarun’s New Problem

Young hero Raj Tarun is in a new predicament. He has two films lined up for release, one happens to be Rajugadu being made by AK Entertainments Banner and another film is Rangularatnam, being produced by Nagarjuna Akkineni under the Annapurna Banner. Incidentally, AK Entertainments wanted to release the film for Sankranthi, but Annapurna Banner wanted the date and they made no bones that they will not push back the date. Raj Tharun did not want to get involved in this tussle and left the issue to his producers. AK Entertainments did not want a face – off with Annapurna Studios and got out of the fray. But Annapurna Studios got busy with Hello in the process and given Nagarjuna Akkineni’s involvement with the project, he will barely be available for other projects till the film releases on 22nd Dec, 2017. So Rangularatnam has been put aside. No first look has been released, no publicity given so far. Similarly, AK Entertainments too has put aside Rajugadu as they are now focused on Kirack Party which will release in Feb, 2018. And hero Raj Tarun has adopted a “wait & watch” policy.

MIB Levies Processing Fee

The ministry of information & broadcasting (MIB) has levied a processing fee on TV channels in case there is a change of satellite, channel name / logo, language of channel, category of channel, mode of transmission, teleport, teleport location & category of channel from general entertainment to news for temporary uplink of a live event. In case, there is a change of satellite, channel name / logo, language of channel, category of channel, mode of transmission of channel, teleport & teleport location, the ministry will charge a processing fee of Rs 1 lakh for national channels & Rs 50,000 for regional channels.

Top News Channels See A Jump

The top 5 Hindi news channels in urban + rural HSM have seen a jump in their viewership in week 49 of BARC ratings. The pecking order, however, has remained unchanged. In rural HSM, News18 India replaced News Nation at #5 even as the top 4 remained unchanged. There was no change in the pecking order in urban HSM.

Rishtey Cineplex Replaces Sony Wah

Rishtey Cineplex has once again grabbed the top position in rural HSM by replacing Sony Wah in week 49, as per BARC India ratings. Sony Wah has dropped to the 2nd position followed by Star Utsav Movies. Zee Anmol Cinema fell to the 4th position while Sony Max stayed put at the 5th position. Rishtey Cineplex had four movies in the top 5 while Sony Wah had 1.

Star Movies has dislodged Movies Now to become the numero uno English movie channel in week 49, as BARC India ratings. Movies Now fell to the 3rd position while Sony Pix moved to the 2nd. HBO replaced Zee Studio at #5. Sony Pix’s Never Back Down No Surrender was the most watched film during the week. 2 other films from Sony Pix, Blue Streak & The Spy Next Door figured in the top 5. Star Movies’ Escape Plan & MNX’s Mr. Nice Guy completed the top 5 chart.

Star Bharat Becomes #1 Channel

Star Bharat has topped the Hindi GEC urban + rural (U+R) HSM chart in week 49 for the 2nd time since its launch in Aug, 2017. Earlier, the GEC had topped the U+R HSM chart in week 45. The channel witnessed growth on the back of its marquee show Kya Haal Mr. Paanchal, which was also the most -watched show in U+R HSM. Zee TV, which was leading the chart last week, dropped to the 3rd position with 63.64 crore weekly impressions, while Colors moved up to grab the 2nd place with 64.30 crore weekly impressions. Sony Entertainment Television (SET) moved up to the 9th position with 39.55 crores weekly impressions whereas Sony Sab dropped to the 10th spot. Other positions remained unchanged.

BBC has launched a virtual reality (VR) spacewalk in partnership with VR production studio Rewind Anyone. Home – A VR Spacewalk is an interactive VR experience that was launched recently for the HTC Vive & the Oculus Rift and is available to download for free via the Steam Store and the Oculus Store. Inspired by the Nasa training programmes used by British astronaut Tim Peake, Home – A VR Spacewalk enables would be astronauts to embark on a spacewalk 250 miles above the Earth’s surface, something only 217 people have ever done for real. MIB Orders Ban

The ministry of information & broadcasting (MIB) has ordered bans on Assamese news channel DY 365 & Gujarati news channel VTV for violation of the content code. The ministry has prohibited the transmission or re – transmission of DY 365 for 3 days on any distribution platform throughout India with effect from 15th Dec, 2017 to 18th Dec, 2017. In the case of VTV, the ministry has prohibited the transmission or re – transmission of the channel for 1 day on any platform throughout India with effect from 16th Dec, 2017 & 17th Dec, 2017.

Dish TV To Negotiate Content Deals

Direct to home (DTH) operator Dish TV has said that it will negotiate content deals with broadcasters based on the data it has collected of more than 0.5 million subscribers who have subscribed channels on a la carte basis. Barring sports & regional channels, Dish TV has started providing channels on a la carte based on Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) new tariff order even as the matter is stuck in Madras High Court.

EC Pulls Up News Channels

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has pulled up news channels for airing interviews with Congress president – elect Rahul Gandhi a day before the 2nd phase of Gujarat polls. The ECI has issued a statement stating that the interviews violated Section 126(1)(b) of The Representation of the People Act, 1951. The ECI has directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat to initiate necessary action by filing FIRs against the channels. It has also asked the channels to stop airing the interview.

Tata Sky Close To Signing A Deal

Direct to home (DTH) operator Tata Sky has said it is close to signing a deal with broadcaster Star India. In Nov, 2017, Star India had issued a disconnection notice to Tata Sky on account of non – signing of subscription agreement by the DTH operator. Having paid Rs 16,347.5 crore for the Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights till 2022, Star is looking at a major upside in the subscription revenue. Incidentally, Star & Tata Sky are closely linked as the former’s parent company 21st Century Fox, directly & indirectly, holds 30% stake in the DTH operator.

The investment, which represents 16.67% of the increased paid – up share capital of Mail Today Newspapers, will be used by Mail Today Newspapers for repayment of debt & for business operations. Mail Today Newspapers runs an English tabloid Mail Today. The paper has only one edition in Delhi.
