Dunkirk, the much – anticipated new cinematic event from director Christopher Nolan, battled to the top of the Indian Box – Office turnstiles in its opening weekend debut, earning an estimated Rs.15.57 Crore Gross across 417 screens including 10 IMAX screens and still going strong. The announcement was made by Denzil Dias, Managing Director, Warner Bros. Pictures (India). Dunkirk’s opening is the biggest opening ever for a Non – Dubbed MPA film and is also the Biggest IMAX opening for an MPA film.

Written & directed by Christopher Nolan, the epic action thriller, Dunkirk brings the story of Operation Dynamo to the big screen as it unfolds on land, sea & air utilizing a mixture of IMAX® & 65 mm film. The film opens as hundreds of thousands of Allied troops are trapped on the beach. Their backs to the sea, they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.

In making the announcement, Denzil Dias stated, “Christopher Nolan has created a film that brings this extraordinary event to the screen in a thrilling & uniquely real cinematic experience. Directed by Christopher Nolan (Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy) from his own screenplay, Dunkirk features a multigenerational cast, including Fionn Whitehead, Tom Glynn – Carney, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy & Barry Keoghan, with Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance & Tom Hardy. The film was produced by Emma Thomas & Christopher Nolan, with Jake Myers serving as executive producer.

Sun Direct, the DTH arm of the Kalanithi Maran – promoted Sun group, has turned profitable at the net level for the full fiscal for the 1st time. For the financial year ended 31 Mar, 2017, Sun Direct posted a net profit of Rs 32.21 crore compared to a loss of Rs 35.30 crore a year ago. Total income stood at Rs 1,211.04 crore, up 8.46% from Rs 1,116.61 crore in FY16. The FY17 figures are provisional. Sun Direct does not officially announce its financial performance as it is not a listed company.

ITAT Upholds I – T Dept’s Rs 450 Tax Demand

News broadcaster NDTV’s problems have compounded with the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) upholding the Income Tax Department’s tax demand of Rs 450 crore on an investment by American media company NBC Universal in NDTV Networks. NBC had invested $150 million in NDTV Networks, which is the holding company for NDTV’s entertainment & lifestyle channels, digital media & other interests, including media products & services in 2008. The tax demand is for the assessment year 2009 ­– 2010.

ZEEL acquired 49% stake in FBW in May this year. In March last year, the company had announced that it would fully acquire FBW for Rs 61.25 crore.

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has cancelled 6 TV channel licences in Jun,2017. With 7 TV channel licences being given in the same month, the total number of permitted of TV channels grew by just 1 to 883, as of 30 Jun, 2017. The ministry has cancelled 4 uplinking & 2 downlinking licences in Jun, 2017. Bangla Entertainment’s uplinking licence under the name Aath has been cancelled as the company had procured a downlinking licence under the name Sony Aath in Mar, this year.

Hinduja Group’s NXT Digital Enters Punjab

The Punjab cable TV market, dominated by Fastway Transmission, will have a new competitor. The Hinduja Group – owned headend – in – the -sky (HITS) platform NXT Digital has entered the market. NXT Digital’s aim is to get in local cable operators (LCOs) to migrate to the HITS platform. Punjab has around 34 lakh TV households. While around 28 lakh households have cable TV, the rest have direct – to – home (DTH) connections.

After 2 days of custody, the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Angamaly has extended the Police custody period of actor Dileep. The actor has now been remanded to 14 days judicial custody from 11th Jul, 2017 and was lodged in Aluva sub – jail. The actor was presented to the Angamaly Judicial Magistrate court on 12th Jul, 2017 and was sent for 2 days police custody for further questioning & collection of evidence. Investigative officers are looking to gather more evidence and find out about the involvement of more people in the case. Further arrests are likely.

For Vijay Sethupathi & Trisha Krishnan’s feel – good romantic entertainer 96, director Prem Kumar has finalized 30 different locales. The 1st schedule of the film has been shot in Spiti Valley, Rajasthan & Kolkata. The 2nd schedule of the film will be shot in Kumbakonam and Trisha is expected to join the team. Produced by Madras Enterprises, the film also has ace comedian Janakaraj, Vinothini & Kaali Venkat in important roles. “Since it’s a travel based story, we chose 30 different locales”, said the film’s director Prem Kumar, who handled cinematography for Vijay Sethupathi’s Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and & Sundarapandian. Govind Menon is scoring the music for the film and Shanmugasundaram is cranking the camera.

Aaron Carter Arrested

Singer Aaron carter hasn’t seemed well for several years now, and some events that occurred recently have just cemented that fact. He was driving around somewhere in Georgia when he was pulled over, apparently for some concerning behavior behind the wheel. but Aaron Carter refused to do any testing, no breathalyzer for him, and no blood or urine tests, either. So he was technically charged with a breath test analyzer refusal, which is also pretty bad news. The arresting officer most likely took his license right then & there. Aaron Carter was also arrested for drug possession & possession of drug – related objects as there was a small amount of marijuana found in the car, and presumably some means to smoke it. He was taken to the local jail and booked on a $4,610 bond. As of right now, he’s still there. His girlfriend, Madison Parker, is also there with him on a $4,360 bond. She was also in the car with him, and charged with drug possession and also obstruction of law enforcement officers.

Taapsee Pannu Apologies

Taapsee Pannu, who has apologised for her comment on Southern Cinema’s midriff craze, says the obsession for a female body exists everywhere. The actress, who made a strong statement about how a woman’s “no means no” with the hard – hitting drama “Pink”, was trolled after she featured in a comic video wherein she spoke about how in her debut Telugu movie Jhummandi Naadam (2010) director K. Raghavendra Rao had a coconut thrown at her navel to add “sensuality”. It’s a sequence oft repeated in the filmmaker’s films, but there are usually flowers or fruits instead of a coconut. “There’s an obsession for a female’s body everywhere. Do I need to name some songs in Bollywood that have some weird obsessions? It’s not just there (in the Southern Film Industry),” Taapsee Pannu told on the sidelines of the 18th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend & Awards held here last week. “I was just sharing my experience because I have seen that in the South, and that glamour bit has not happened with me in Bollywood yet,” added the actress, who has featured in films like Baby & Naam Shabana, apart from Pink, all of which saw her portray intense characters. Taapsee Pannu says that her comment in the video was “misconstrued” by the media which led to it being blown out of proportion. She apologised nevertheless because she wanted “peace”.

Ravi Teja is playing a blind man in Raja The Great directed by Anil Ravipudi, who delivered back – to – back hits with Patas & Supreme. Naga Chaitanya is a bankable star, but he is not one who has had blockbusters in his career. But he does have his share of hits and he manages a hit at an average of 2 films. Raarandoi Veduka Choodam is the latest release of Chaitu and the film has done decent business as compared to his films in the past. The film was produced on Annapurna Banner and it will complete 50 days tomorrow. So, Nagarjuna had planned to put up a huge poster to mark the success of the film. Raarandoi Veduka Choodam is not a mega hit, but it is one of the biggest hits of Naga Chaintanya’s career and there was every reason for celebration. However, after the scene created following the claims by DJ Duvvada Jagannadham ‘s team, Nagarjuna is said to be wary of holding a press meet & announcing the figure. In all, Raarandoi Veduka Choodam managed a market share of Rs 30 crores, which is pretty good for a Chaitu film. Though it is very little when compared to films like DJ Duvvada Jagannadham which managed to make Rs 20 crores share in Nizam alone. But DJ Duvvada Jagannadham ‘s team claimed that DJ Duvvada Jagannadham was the biggest hit following Baahubali and even went on to indirectly hint that the film of megastar and other top heroes was nowhere near their success. This has irked many in the industry and also mega fans. So, the latest is that Naga Chaitanya is not very comfortable disclosing the figures of Raarandoi Veduka Choodam. But again, that would mean denying Chaitu his share of fame.

Director Madhur Bhandarkar, National Award winning filmmaker, certainly needs no special introduction. From a video cassettes library owner to filmmaking was not exactly a smooth sailing journey for him.

Yet apart from winning a lot of critical acclaim for his movies from Chandani Bar to Indu Sarkar, Madhur Bhandarkar has always been surrounded by controversies galore. So much so that it is rightly said that controversy is indeed the middle name of Madhur Bhandarkar.

Be that as it may be so Madhur Bhandar’s latest film Indu Sarkar is almost on the verge of release on 28th Jul, 2017 and right since the day the release date has been announced its controversial spell has begun. First it was the Censor Chief Pahlaj Nihalani in lieu with one of the Gandhi family’s member who had tried to put a full – stop over Indu Sarkar’s release with the objection that there are many incidents in the film which may taint the Gandhi family’s image and just when that controversy had ended, here comes another roadblock in the way of Madhur Bhandarkar and his film Indu Sarkar.

It so happens that now the Congress Party workers are raising a huge protest against Madhur Bhandarkar and his film Indu Sarkar mainly to stop the smooth sailing release of Indu Sarkar that too without any rhyme or reason whatsoever.

Since the Congress Party workers protest broke out yesterday Madhur Bhandar in a special media briefing has urged the Congress Vice – President to put a check on these so called protests stating that, “I am fighting on all the fronts right now and it’s a bit scary also – Congress Party Workers are protesting strongly against me and my film Indu Sarkar. Besides somebody is sending me legal notice, Jagdish Tytler wants a clear image in the movie and then censor board too. Please do something about it. I just hope that I go through all these obstacles smoothly and release the film on 28th Jul, 2017.”

Madhur Bhandarkar added further, “I have also requested Rahul Gandhi on Twitter to keep a check on his party workers who are protesting against my film. Lots of people have made documentaries on the Emergency. But Congress is rattled ever since the trailer is out. The higher authorities in Congress have to play a major role and hold a press briefing to say that they condemn such acts. Do you want to run a parallel censor? Some Congress party workers have distanced themselves from me ever since the trailer of the film has come out.”

Madhur Bhandarkar also made a reference to his 16th Jul, 2017 tweet when he had tagged the account of the Office of Rahul Gandhi on Twitter and wrote, “Dear Rahul Gandhi after Pune, I have to cancel today’s (Sun) press conference at Nagpur. Do you approve this hooliganism? Can I have my freedom of expression?”

Madhur Bhandarkar also requested the Congress President Rahul Gandhi to take action against the local Congress party workers, who are constantly sending threats to him regarding the release of his forthcoming film Indu Sarkar. So much so that he was forced to cancel the promotional activities of his film in Nagpur & Pune last week after receiving threats from the Congress party workers

Earlier on, Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam had penned a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Chief Pahlaj Nihalani, asking for the movie to be screened for them before it is censored. The CBFC later suggested 12 cuts & 2 disclaimers in the film. Madhur Bhandarkar had been asked to remove words like RSS & Akali from the film Indu Sarkar.

The film Indu Sarkar features Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kirti Kulhari, Anupam Kher & Tota Roy Chaudhary. And it is set against the backdrop of the 1975 – 1977 Emergency Period, although it has characters inspired by the Late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her Late son Sanjay Gandhi.

As of now Madhur Bhandarkar has been provided police protection amidst tight security.

HE WAIT FOR JAGGA JASOOS ALBUM IS COMING TO AN END

Everyone is looking forward to laying their hands on to the complete album of Anurag Basu & Pritam’s musical JAGGA JASOOS. But in a unique marketing strategy the album will be available only a week after the film’s release. Shivangi Kapoor who has recently visited the set of Shraddha Kapoor & Siddhanth Kapoor’s HASEENA PARKAR, almost ignored her children on the sets as she did not recognize them. Apoorva Lakhia has done a commendable job in the transformation of Shraddha & Siddhanth into Haseena & Dawood which has been garnering them a lot of appreciation. While on the sets both the actors were shooting together in their Haseena & Dawood’s get up when their mother came to see them. Shivangi who was standing right beside Shraddha & Siddhanth could not recognize them and asked the team to show her way to their changing room. Shivangi then called Shraddha and found the phone ringing right beside her. Glancing at her kids in that avatar, Shivangi was quite thrilled of the transformation and the hardworking the team is putting in to get the nuances of their character. AJAY DEVGN WALKS BETWEEN A LIVE POLO MATCH FOR THE SONG “MERE RASHKE QAMAR”

Milan’s films always have sequences involving horses, like the iconic horse race in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI. The director is a passionate horse lover, rider & racing enthusiast. For his upcoming film BAADSHAHO, Milan came up with a unique sequence, which he executed himself. Shooting in the land of polo, Rajasthan, Milan & writer Rajat Aroraa designed a sequence that sees Ajay Devgn, throw caution to the winds when he accepts a dare & walks across a polo field with a polo game in full flow during the song “Mere Rashke Qamar” which features Ileana D’Cruz & him. Polo is the 2nd fastest game in the world, after ice hockey. And more difficult to shoot in because animals come into play and hence 2 professional polo teams were hired and the sequence was shot at Jodhpur polo ground. Milan himself mounted one of the horses while showing the players the dangerous moves they had to execute at full gallop around Ajay who would be walking through. After several rehearsals which Ajay watched, the sequence was canned in 1 take without any accidents. The only close shave was when one of the horses stopped abruptly when he sensed the steadicam right next to him, but Ajay, an avid rider himself, had the presence of mind to just take a half step and let the horse pass without cutting the shot.

The scene which is receiving so much appreciation is the result of her motivation It was a dream come true to be in the same frame as Srideviji. I have grown up watching her films and when I was offered the role, I just had to say yes. But, I felt bad when I had to be menacing and trouble Srideviji in the film. I am flooded with phone calls and sms – es ever since the film has released. I am feeling elated. I had surrendered to the character completely. My belief has turned into a reality. DIVYA DUTTA’S ATTEMPT AT OVERCOMING CLAUSTROPHOBIA

Divya Dutta who will next be seen in BABUMOSHAI BANDOOKBAAZ has a good time trying to get over her fear of claustrophobia. The actress who will be seen playing a pivotal role in the film was required to be standing in a dug up hole which was later filled once the actress was inside it, keeping only her head out. The scene was shot in an open land in Lucknow and in the scorching heat of 45’C and Divya Dutta was required to stay in that hole for straight 3 hours. With all her apprehension the actress shoot for those 3 hours with the entire crew pampering her diverting her mind from the situation she was in. At the end of it all the actress gave one of the best shots of the film.

Rahul Pandey of the hit songs like “Haseena Tu Kameena Main” (HAPPY ENDING) & “Jab We Met” (Hero) fame is back with yet more hit tracks. Recently the singer lent his voice for the much-awaited upcoming film starring Tiger Shroff & Nawazuddin Siddiqui named MUNNA MICHAEL releasing 21st Jul, 2017. Rahul made Tiger Shroff dance in his 2 peppy numbers in MUNNA MICHAEL. Rahul has sung 2 songs in the film “Feel The rhythm” & “Show me your moves”. Both songs have been beautifully composed by the composer Pranay Rijia. “Feel The rhythm is a peppy dance track which also happens to be one of Tiger Shroff’s favorite from the album. The song sounds extremely fresh with foot – tapping music and has a groovy vibe to it which is sure to make anyone dance. Show me your moves is another groovy track that has been used in the movie as a background song and apparently Tiger Shroff has shaken a leg to the tunes of it. Both the songs are peppy & groovy with a lovely vibe. Rahul Pandey’s unique voice sounds powerful with killer attitude and gives a different dimension to the song. Rahul has also sung a whacky Tamil song recently named “Double Okay” by ace composer D. Imman. He also recently became the voice for Ekta Kapoor’s Alt Balaji’s web series named ROMIL AND JUGAL. Internationally, Rahul Pandey was recently approached by a German film maker and has sung a Hindi song for a German film, due for release next year. Earlier in this year, Rahul had also collaborated with a Welsh band and sang a song with them Rahul Pandey is born & brought up in Kolkata, studied in St. Xaviers college in Kolkata but his origins are from Allahabad, he is an MBA but his love in music made him a singer.
