The culmination of the 20th anniversary celebrations and the first ever, exclusive alumni meet was held on campus on Aug 12th. Alumni from the world over visited the school and shared their stories about CIS. The evening was filled with fun and nostalgia, where the pillars of CIS’s strength, its teachers and admin staff, were felicitated.
The Evening started with a band playing in the basketball courts and then everyone moved to The Odeum for an alumni meet and honoring of all the staff of CIS.
The first registered student of CIS was present and many more from all corners of the world. Each one came up and spoke about their experience studying in CIS and those that couldn’t make it sent video clips with their thoughts.
The entire show was live streamed on the Alumni Facebook page so graduates who could not attend the event could watch it live.
Sheweta Sastri, the Executive Director had to say this about the event “It was a pleasure to see so many alumni on campus. The 3rd event in in our celebration of 20 years series was a runaway success! Every teacher and member of staff received gifts from the school. The anecdotes and memories shared by CIS Alumna were those they will cherish for a long long time. What a wonderful evening!”
Established in 1996, the Canadian International School or CIS, is celebrating 20 glorious years. Among the other milestones on the way is the fact that they were the first school in Bangalore to start offering the IB Diploma programme in the year 2000. The current Board of Directors (ownership team of Sterling Developers) took over the school in 2002, built the current campus, and moved to it in 2006 commemorating the 10th anniversary of the school.
2016, is a landmark year for the school. 3 Marquee events were planned to celebrate 20 years. Jan 2016, saw the inauguration of “The Odeum”, – a 470 seat, state-of- the-art performing arts theatre – with a performance,”Isha Rumi” by Sunaad, a group of Indian classical singers. The vision for The Odeum is for it to become the cornerstone for performing arts in North Bangalore, given that this area does not have any comparable performance venue.
On March 22nd 2016 (the date of incorporation 20 years ago), a huge carnival was organised on campus for students and parents and friends of CIS. The finale on the that day was the going live of their solar project, which ensures that CIS meets all of its electricity requirements from solar power, and any excess energy produced is given back to the grid for use by surrounding homes and villages. CIS is doing its bit to reduce the world’s carbon footprint.
