Journalist thrashed by meat mafia goons during raid on illegal slaughterhouse

August 9, 2018 by Nasheman

In a shocking incident, a journalist who had gone to film the raid carried out by the animal activists and police officials on an illegal slaughterhouse was thrashed by the mob here on Tuesday, August 7.

The incident occurred at an illegal slaughterhouse at Kodipalya village in Ramanagara district. The raid was carried out based on credible information that over 200 new-born calves are slaughtered daily.

According to sources, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) had cited law and order situation and refused to give police protection to the animal activists to enter the slaughterhouse since there was no enough force available. He had confirmed to provide security on the next day of the raid. Two unarmed cops accompanied the animal activist Joshine Anthony and the India Today reporter on the first day of the raid.

Surprisingly, the animal activists, who had seen animals at the slaughterhouse few days ago, did not find any calves on the day of the raid giving rise to doubts that the information regarding raid was leaked and also confirmed nexus between the cops and meat mafia.

However, the missing new-born calves were found within the slaughterhouse premises hidden underneath low lying trees and inside dense bushes, with mouths being tied to their feet so that they would not make any noise. The officials rescued 71 calves from there.

When the India Today reporter who had been to the site to film the raid sought to know the locals’ reaction, he was thrashed by them. The angry mob including meat mafia goons pelted stones at him and threatened him. His phone was also damaged during the melee. The entire incident was captured on camera and at the presence of police officials.

An FIR has been registered against Gazipeer, Khasi, Syed, Mubarakhan, Noor, Imthiaz and Tabrez from Ramanagara at Kudur police station under IPC sections 428 and 429 (mischief by killing or maiming animal).

No FIR was registered against the mob for attack on the journalist.

The Special Task Force of Kolkata Police on Wednesday arrested a member of the terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Jharkhand for his involvement in the Bodh Gaya explosion.

“Dilwar Hasan alias Ali Hasan (26) was arrested on Wednesday from Sidhu Kanu More in Jharkhand’s Pakuria police station area. He is a member of JMB and was involved in Bodh Gaya IED explosion in January 2018,” Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police (STF) Murlidhar Sharma said.

According to the officer, Hasan, a resident of Malda district’s Kaliachawk in West Bengal has been charged under various sections.

“A mobile phone, one Aadhar card, one voter ID card and a phone purchase bill was seized from the accused,” the IPS officer said adding that the voter card appeared to be fake.

A low intensity bomb blast took place near Kalchakra ground in Bodh Gaya on January 19 when the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama was present in the town. A couple of crude bombs and a large quantity of explosives were also recovered from the place.

The arrest of Hasan took place a day after National Investigation Agency (NIA) nabbed JMB leader Mohammed Jahidul Islam from Karnataka in the case and seized electronic devices and traces of explosives from his house in Ramanagara area.

The NIA had arrested two more West Bengal residents, also suspected members of the JMB, from Kerala earlier this week on the charge of placing the IEDs in Bodh Gaya.

Bengal former IPS officer’s husband arrested in extortion case

August 8, 2018 by Nasheman

The West Bengal CID on Tuesday arrested former West Midnapore district police chief Bharati Ghosh’s husband M.A.V. Raju in an extortion case after his anticipatory bail was rejected by the Calcutta High Court, a CID officer said.

The High Court had rejected Raju’s bail plea in connection with the probe into a case of alleged extortion and illegal exchange of banned notes for gold in West Midnapore district’s Daspur.

The Criminal Investigation Department had earlier arrested four police officers who had worked under Ghosh and the caretaker of an apartment in south Kolkata, suspected to be owned by her, in the case.

More than Rs 2.4 crore, important government documents, and sealed liquor bottles were seized during raids at a number of flats in south Kolkata’s Madurdaha.

A large amount of unaccounted cash was also seized from the houses of several police officers named in the FIR.

The CID raids started following a case of extortion and criminal conspiracy was lodged in Daspur on February 1 after gold trader Chandan Majhi complained against some police officers in the district thought to be close to Ghosh.

Ghosh, once a favourite of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, reportedly fell from grace and sought voluntary retirement after she was transferred as Commandant of West Bengal Armed Police’s 3rd Battalion. Her application was accepted.

The CID issued arrest warrant against her on February 10 on the charges of extortion and criminal conspiracy and sent teams outside the state to look for her.

Bombay HC rejects Abu Salem’s plea for parole to marry

August 7, 2018 by Nasheman

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday rejected jailed gangster Abu Salem’s plea for a 45-day parole to get married to his Thane-based girlfriend.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice V.K. Tahilramani and Justice M.S. Sonak declined the request on the ground that under the prison rules, those convicted under terror charges were not eligible either for furlough or parole.

Currently lodged in the Taloja Jail, Raigad, Salem moved the High Court after his earlier application for parole was rejected by the Konkan Divisional Commissioner (KDC) – the competent authority in such cases – in March on security grounds.

Through his lawyer Farhana Shah, he informed the High Court on Tuesday that the KDC had refused his application “without proper application of the mind” for his previously planned marriage on May 5.

Convicted for his role in the March 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, Salem had reportedly married’ his girlfriend, Heena alias Kausar Bahar, a resident of Mumbra town in Thane district.

Extradited from Portugal in November 2005, he claimed to have married Heena in 2014 over the phone while en route to Lucknow for a court case though she had made certain conflicting statements later.

He contended that he wanted to properly formalize his marriage with Heena by going to the registrar’s office and needed parole for this.

Originally hailing from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, Salem was convicted and sentence to life imprisonment for his role in the Mumbai serial blasts and other cases, besides being an accused in several other major cases, under trial in different parts of India.

In December 2014, he had complained to the Portugal authorities seeking cancellation of his deportation to India claiming that the extradition terms and conditions were allegedly violated.
