A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court here in Bihar, which had last week convicted five Indian Mujahideen militants in the 2013 Bodh Gaya blasts case, on Friday sentenced them to life imprisonment, a lawyer said.

At the point when his wife asked money for celebrating the birthday of their child on March 28, 2017, Doddamani got into a fight with her and declined to give her any money. Annoyed with her husband’s conduct, she took her child and left home to go to her parents.

ED likely to register money laundering case in AirAsia clearance
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is likely to register a money laundering case against AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes and others accused of violating FDI norms and allegedly attempting, through bribery, to get the rules tweaked for a licence for its joint venture AirAsia India Ltd (AAIL) to operate international flights, sources said.
The ED has reportedly sought details of the case from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which on Monday filed a criminal case naming “unknown public servants” of the Civil Aviation Ministry, the then Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), along with R. Venkataramanan, Director, AirAsia India, and T. Kanagalingam alias Bo Lingam, Deputy CEO, AirAsia Group.
The CBI had named Fernandes and others in the case of violating FDI norms in giving effective management to a foreign entity through FIPB clearance in 2013.
According to an ED official, the agency is in contact with the CBI investigators and may receive details of the case any time.
“After a thorough analysis of the case, we might register a money laundering case in the matter under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act,” the official told IANS, requesting anonymity.
The ED is already probing corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar, the middleman named in the CBI FIR, in a case of alleged money laundering and had raided several premises linked with him a week ago.
Both AirAsia and Venkataramanan have denied the charges, saying the accusations were made with mala fide intention and will be defended in court.
Venkataramanan, whom the CBI is investigating with several others for allegedly lobbying to get aviation rules relaxed for AirAsia India with kickbacks to officials, said the accusations against him were an off-shoot of the allegations made by former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and the Shapoor Pallonji Group against the trustees of Tata Trusts, including him, and Tata Sons.
“Emails purportedly written by me have been circulated in the media in the context of the issue of 5/20 (rule) in the aviation sector. This has been a much debated policy matter and AirAsia India was one of the many airlines that had formally sought a review of this policy,” he had said in a statement.
Venkataramanan is the managing trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and is responsible for the management and oversight of all the Tata Trusts.
AirAsia India has also denied allegations concerning indirect foreign control of AAIL allegedly in violation of FIPB, saying the matter had been “fully investigated by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the aviation regulator had given it clean chit in November 2017”.
The CBI FIR alleges that in December 2014, Sunil Kapoor, who runs an in-flight catering company, along with Bo Lingam handed over a packet containing Rs 50 lakhs to facilitate the removal of the rule that required five years domestic flying experience and 20 aircraft to get licence to fly internationally.
The CBI said it had received information that AirAsia India was indirectly controlled and operated by AirAsia Group and particularly AirAsia Berhad, violating the norms of the then FIPB.
This structure was directly formalised through a “Brand Licence Agreement” signed by AirAsia represented by Fernandes and AirAsia Berhad represented by Bo Lingam on April 17, 2013, which indirectly made AirAsia India a de facto subsidiary rather than a joint venture.
As per the then FDI policy, foreign airlines were allowed to own up to 49 per cent of shares in domestic airlines but effective management control must remain with the Indian partner.
Chidambaram skips investigation in INX Media case
Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Thursday skipped the CBI investigation into the INX Media corruption case after the Delhi High court granted him interim protection from arrest, the probe agency said.
Citing the High Court order, Chidambaram’s lawyer Arun Natarajan told the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) through an application that his client would not join the investigation into the case while court is proceeding with the case.
The response comes in the wake of CBI summons issued to the senior Congress leader on Wednesday asking him to appear before the investigators on Thursday at the agency’s headquarters at south Delhi’s Lodhi Road area to join investigation in the case.
“Chidambaram did not join investigation in INX Media case today (Thursday). We will take the next course of actions against him after further directions from the department,” a CBI official said.
The CBI is now planning to reissue summons against Chidambaram in the case while the time is yet to be decided, he said.
Chidambaram’s move comes after the Delhi High Court on Thursday granted him interim protection from arrest in the INX Media case directing the CBI not to take any coercive action against him till July 3, the next date of hearing.
The CBI on May 15 last year filed an FIR in the case accusing Chidambaram, his son Karti and others for their involvement in irregularities committed in giving INX Media the clearance to receive Rs 305 crore in foreign investment.
The CBI had on February 28 arrested Karti in the case accusing him of taking money to facilitate Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media in 2007 when his father was the Finance Minister in the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. Later, he was granted bail.
The CBI initially alleged that Karti had received Rs 10 lakh as bribe for facilitating the FIPB clearance.
The figure was, however, revised later to about $1 million or Rs 6.5 crore at the current exchange rate.
The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate are probing the case.
Mohammed Nalapad’s bail application was Rejected : Assult in Pub Case
A court in the city has dismissed the bail application moved by Mohammed Nalapad, son of Shanthinagar MLA N A Haris on Wednesday May 30.
Nalapad has been in jail since the last over 14 weeks for the alleged murderous assault he launched on Vidwath. Currently he is under judicial custody.
The order issued by the 63rd Sessions Court in the city has dashed the hopes of Nalapad of getting bail even after chargesheet was filed in the case. As a result, he is forced to remain inside the prison at least for the time being.
After his bail application was quashed by the state High Court in the past, Nalapad had moved bail application for the second time in the sessions court after chargesheet was filed. Judge of the court, Parameshwar Prasanna, who conducted hearing into the petition, ordered quashing of the application.
The court noted that the accused is facing charge of attempt to murder under section 307 of Indian Penal Code under which there is provision to award life term imprisonment. “A perusal of statements by witnesses gives clear picture about the seriousness of the incident. The accused is an influential person and hearing in the case has not concluded. There is possibility of destruction of evidence and influencing witnesses if he is released. Therefore, at this stage, bail cannot be granted,” the judge observed before dismissing the application.
The judge also noted that the investigation conducted so far and medical reports contain strong evidences about the veracity of the incident. “When considering bail application in the past, the High Court had gone through the video footage of the incident and opined that the matter is serious, before quashing the application. Moreover there is no rule that bail should be granted immediately after chargesheet is filed. Therefore, the bail application stands dismissed,” the judge observed.
Advocate for Nalapad, Usman, said that his client would appeal in the High Court against the court order.

Senior SIT officials confirmed that the Praveen arrested by Upparpet police was the one they were looking for. The SIT will also file a charge sheet against Naveen Kumar in a city court on Wednesday, since a considerable amount of evidence had been gathered to support his role in Lankesh’s murder.
Along with Praveen, three other people hailing from Maharastra were arrested. They have been identified as Amit Degwekar, Manohar Dundappa Evade and Amol Kale and are said to be sharpshooters, though their role in the murder is still not clear. The CBI has registered a case against AirAsia group CEO Tony Fernandes, a Malaysian billionaire, for allegedly trying to circumvent rules to get international flying license for AirAsia India, the probe agency said on Tuesday.
