Kerala announces sops for custodial death victim’s family

May 2, 2018 by Nasheman

The Kerala cabinet on Wednesday decided to give compensation of Rs 10 lakh and a government job to the wife of 26-year-old Sreejith, who died in police custody in March.

Sreejith’s wife, Akhila, who holds the police “primarily responsible” for how their family was “decimated”, has welcomed the development.

“The steps taken by the government is good. The police are solely responsible as my husband was innocent,” she said.

The victim’s mother Shyamala said the government must bring officials responsible for her son’s death to justice. “Each and every one who did this to my son have to be brought before the law.”

“We have approached the high court seeking a CBI probe. All those police officers who did this to my son must be taken to task. None should be allowed to escape,” the mother said.

Trouble started for Sreejith after 56-year-old Vasudevan hanged himself after a group of men barged into his house and threatened him.

A special squad of the police took Sreejith, father of a two-year-old, and nine others into custody on April 7 and charged them with abetment to suicide and rioting.

Subsequently, Sreejith was taken to a hospital where he died on April 9.

Following a huge uproar on the social media, the Pinarayi Vijayan government went on the defensive and a Special Investigation Team of the police-led by Inspector General S. Sreejith was given the probe.

The probe team has arrested three policemen who first took Sreejith into custody on April 7 night.

Sub-Inspector Deepak and Circle Inspector Crispin Sam have also been arrested. According to informed sources Ernakulam Superintendent of Police(Rural) A.V. George might also be summoned for questioning.

George was transferred after it came to light the three policemen taken into custody were directly under his control.

The case has become a major campaign issue in the crucial Chengannur assembly bye-election slated for May 28.

April 30, 2018 by Nasheman

A shocking video showing a group of eight youth molesting a minor girl in Bihar’s Jehanabad area has gone viral and has been doing the rounds on social media since Saturday evening.

In the video, the youth were seen molesting, dragging and undressing the victim while lifting her off her feet. The girl is seen pleading with the men and resisting their attacks. Onlookers shot a video of the incident instead of helping the girl.

Patna zonal IG Nayyar Hasnain Khan on Sunday formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the unverified video.

“4 people have been arrested in connection with the case. Faces of two people have been matched with people in the video and other two were making the clip. Other 4 to 5 people have been named by them. Search operation is underway,” news agency ANI quoted Patna Zonal IG on Jehanabad Nayyar Hasnain Khan saying.

After the intervention of the state cybercrime branch, the video was removed from social media but was still available on instant messaging platforms.

According to reports, police have identified a motorbike from the video with a Jehanabad registration number and initiated investigation to locate the culprits.

The Town police station in Jehanabad has registered an FIR against unknown people based on the registration number of a bike, which could be spotted in the video.

The SIT is led by Jehanabad SP Maneesh. SHO of Town police station SK Singh said, “The FIR has been lodged under Section 376 (rape) and 511 (punishment for offences punishable with life or other imprisonments) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 8 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.”

Police said the victim Hans Nagar suspected his two brothers were behind the murderous attack.

Hans Nagar had reached near the entrance to his farmhouse in Fatehpuri Beri from his clinic in south Delhi’s Siri Fort area around 1.50 a.m. when four unidentified attackers riding two motorcycles stopped nearby and fired more than a dozen rounds at him.

13Yr old girl raped from niece lover.

April 30, 2018 by Nasheman

In a horrific and shameful act, a woman forced her 13-year-old niece to get drunk after which she allowed her boyfriend to rape the child in a forested area in outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy on Sunday night.

The 30-year-old woman has been arrested while her boyfriend, the alleged rapist, Mukesh Kumar is on the run,

The woman, the child’s aunt, used to look after the family as the girl’s mother had left her and her father.

According to the police, the woman allegedly lured the girl to her home before walking her to a forested area nearby. Mukesh was waiting there in his mini truck.

“The woman tried to trick the girl into drinking alcohol by mixing it with soft drinks. When the girl refused to drink, her aunt forced her. The woman and Mukesh too were drinking,” an investigator was quoted as saying by media.

The officer said, Mukesh raped the girl once she was in an inebriated state with the woman staying around when the crime was being committed.

He added that the woman knew of rape and that the police suspect it to be pre-planned.

As a result, IPC section pertaining to criminal conspiracy was added to the case.

The incident came to light, when the girl’s father saw her bleeding and in pain on Monday. She was rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital where the doctors told that she had been raped.

Rajneesh Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) said a case has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape), 328 (causing hurt by intoxicating substance with intent to commit an offence), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). The duo has also been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

This incident took place on the day when President Ram Nath Kovind promulgated an ordinance to pave way for providing stringent punishment, including death penalty, for those convicted of raping girls below the age of 12 years.

The Union Cabinet on Saturday approved the ordinance to allow courts to award death penalty to those convicted of raping girls under 12 years.

In case of rape of a girl under 16 years, the minimum punishment was increased from 10 years to 20 years, extendable to imprisonment for rest of life, which means jail term till the convict’s “natural life”.

The ordinance gained significance in the wake of huge outrage over Kathua and Unnao rape cases.
