Death Penalty for raping a minor

April 30, 2018 by Nasheman

City court awarded death penalty to a man who was convicted of raping and murdering a six-year-old girl on April 20, 2017.

The same is awaiting confirmation by the high court.

The accused Anil Balagar (35) has been convicted for raping and murdering a six-year-old girl at his residence.

Judge M Lathakumari awarded death penalty to Anil for killing the child and 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping her, apart from slapping a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.

It has been reported that, “The girl was playing outside her grandfather’s home, which is opposite Balagar’s house. She went missing at 6.15pm and attempts to find her went in vain. Around 8pm, Balagar informed people that he had to leave for his native place,” public prosecutor Channa Venkataramanappa said. He said the convict’s mobile was switched off soon after he left and that the family didn’t find the girl, and lodged a missing complaint. “Three days later, foul smell emanating from Balagar’s house caught the attention of neighbours. On breaking it open, police found the girl’s body,” he said, adding that the judgment has no connection with the recent ordinance passed by the Centre that allows death penalty for those who rape minors.

SC stays trial in Kathua rape and murder

April 27, 2018 by Nasheman

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the trial in the rape and murder of a young girl in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir as it asked the accused to respond to the plea for the transfer of trial to Chandigarh.

Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice Indu Malhotra stayed the trial which was listed for Saturday in Kathua, saying it would hold a hearing on the plea for transfer of trial on May 7.

Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir government had opposed the transfer of the trial saying that it had a different penal code and transfer of trial would pose inconvenience to the witnesses.

Meanwhile, the Centre on Friday told the top court that it would extend whatever assistance was required from it.

The Centre is a respondent in a related petition seeking transfer of investigation from the Jammu and Kashmir Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation, a plea opposed by the rape-cum-murder victim’s father.

Minors to drive away 26 parents jail

April 27, 2018 by Nasheman

In April 20 parents were sent to jail by the court and this month 6 parents were sent to jail.
In a massive crackdown against underage driving, the Hyderabad traffic police has arrested 26 parents in the last two months for allowing their children to drive on the road, leading to major accidents.

“In April 20 parents were sent to jail by the court and this month 6 parents were counseling all, so a total of 26 parents were sent to jail in last two months,” Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Traffic Police of Hyderabad told news agency ANI.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police has developed a program, including counselling sessions and registering of First Information Reports (FIR), to make both the children and parents aware of the consequences of allowing minors to drive.

The strict action comes after a reported increase in incidents of minors getting involved in accidents.

Earlier this week, a woman driver ran over a cobbler sleeping on the footpath at Kushaiguda area of Hyderabad.

The driver, an engineering student, and her three friends, including the daughter of an Inspector with the Hyderabad Police, were returning home after partying at a bar in AS Rao Nagar.

Though the woman behind the wheel, identified as Ishanya Pathireddy (20) and her three friends in the car were allegedly drunk at the time of the incident, the cops denied it saying that she had tested negative and that only two of the girls had consumed alcohol.

The car was registered in the name of Ishanya’s mother Vijayapathi Reddy and has a pending traffic challan issued four months ago.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the vehicle came to a halt after crushing Tilekar Ashok (48) and injuring his elder son Mahesh.

Bike Borne Indore Model sexually harassed

An Indore based model suffered an accident after men sexually harassed her. The model posted the picture to show her bruises. A model from Indore has recently narrated a disgraceful incident of sexual harassment she faced in broad daylight on Mon 23rd Apr, 2018.

The model, in a series of tweets, talked about how 2 men tried to pull her skirt when she was riding a 2 wheeler on a busy road, and told her “dikhao iske niche kya hai” (Show what’s underneath).

The girl tried to get hold of the duo, but in the process lost control of her scooty, and met with an accident. She posted a picture of her bruised leg on social media platforms.

“This happened recently. 2 guys tried to pull my skirt while I was on my activa and said, “dikhao Iske niche Kya hai?” I tried to stop them and lost control and met with an accident.” she said in her first tweet with a request of anonymity.

What makes this incident more shocking is that it happened in a busy area, but no one cared to intervene.

“It happened on one of the busiest roads of indore, and nobody tried to stop them. They ran away, and I couldn’t even see their number. I’ve never felt so helpless. I’m not the kind of girl who will just sit & watch. Those fiends ran away, and I couldn’t do anything.” she averred.

“My friends took me to a nearby cafe and I tried my level best to let this incident go. Not because I’m weak, but for those 30 minutes, I wasn’t ready to deal with it. I was numb. I was speechless.” read her tweet.

To make things more humiliating for the model, one man blamed the girl for wearing a skirt.

“What I want to wear is my fucking choice. Those guys don’t have any right to harass me because wearing a skirt doesn’t give you a right to behave like that. An uncle who came to help me after my fall said, “it’s because you’re wearing a skirt!” I’ve never been so offended.” the infuriated model stated.

Expressing concern at what could have happened if it was a deserted road, she further tweeted, “I decided to go live on my instagram and talk about it. Just imagine if I wasn’t on such a busy road. Or just imagine if I was on a lonely street. Would those guys have stopped at trying to pull my skirt?”

She also urged other victims of sexual harassment to speak up about their ordeals as she feels silence would only help the culprits.

“So many girls go through this. Most of them decide not to talk about it. Why? It’s embarrassing, yes. But not talking about it is empowering those guys who think they can do anything and can get away with it.” her another tweet read.

The young model also said that she later went to the same location to trace down the 2 men, but she found the area lacked any CCTV camera. The model said she would file a police complaint against the men.

This horrifying incident came to light at a time when the nation is outraged by the numerous cases of rapes & crime against women, minor girls & even toddlers.
