Prime Minister Narendra Modi Urges TV Channels To Aid Swachh Bharat Programme

The Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi has of late urged the TV Channels to aid Swachh Bharat programme and Big B features in the new promo. The Prime Minister recently urged the television channels to participate pro – actively in the Swachh Bharat programme as creativity may lead to new ideas & new slogans which can inspire people. Referring to the Short Films Competition on the theme “Swachh Bharat” announced recently by the Government of India, he said during his monthly “Monthly Ki Baat” on All India Radio that filmmakers no longer needed large studios or sets to shoot a film, and this could be done even on a mobile phone.

He said the winning entries will be announced in a special felicitation programme to be held in New Delhi on 2nd Oct, 2016 which also marks the Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. Entries have been invited by the National Film Development Corporation on behalf of Information & Broadcasting Ministry by 10th Sept, 2016. The films can be made in Hindi, English or any of the listed official languages of India. The “Best Film” will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh & a certificate. 3 of the 2nd “Best Films” will be awarded Rs 5 lakh each & 6 of the 3rd “Best Films” will be awarded Rs 2 lakh each.

The Essel group owned Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has recently filled the missing peg on its leadership roster: the CEO of its domestic broadcast business. Come 1st Oct, 2016, former Hindustan Unilever Ltd’s (HUL) senior executive & careerist Punit Misra will be stepping into those shoes at India’s leading media & entertainment major and will be directly reporting to ZEEL MD & CEO Punit Goenka. In recent times, ZEEL has been strengthening its senior management team to help it achieve its ambitious targets. Last year, it brought in family member & Punit’s younger brother & technopreneur Amit Goenka to head its international broadcast business. Earlier this year, it spun off its broadcast network sales into another company called Zee Unimedia which is headed by COO Ashish Sehgal.
Punit Misra, the new senior joinee, has had a long association with HUL and was last serving as an executive director & vice president – customer development. The company informed BSE that the company has launched its Hindi news channel NDTV India in UK. Along with the news channel a subsidiary of the company, NDTV Lifestyle Limited, has launched an Indian food channel NDTV Spice on Virgin’s cable network. NDTV has a portfolio of 3 channels, including NDTV 24×7, NDTV India and India’s 1st ever 2 -in – 1 channel NDTV Profit – NDTV Prime (business news & infotainment). The channels target the global Indian with news. NDTV has a rollercoaster ride as a media company – turned – broadcaster in the last over 25 years. Last week, the income tax appellate tribunal (ITAT) ruled in its favour on tax matters related to assessment years 2007 – 2008 & 2008 – 2009 that had created a controversy. The company has been caught up in a legal tangle with the income tax department for some time. The ITAT said that NDTV need not pay tax on additional amount of Rs 22.09 crore, which the department wanted to add to its taxable income.

Television producer’s production house’ Colosceum’s new drive. Lalit Sharma has one ambition that keeps him up all night, it’s the drive to take his production house Colosceum Media into new vistas. The smiling soft – spoken bearded CEO whose charge has built up its reputation as a top notch producer of non – fiction & reality shows would like to balance out its portfolio by diversifying increasingly into TV dramas & series for Hindi General Entertainment Channel’s (GEC), shows for international TV channels, and digital content. For the 1st one, he has a challenge – albeit not un – surmountable – on his hands. For a large part programmers in Hindi GEC’s are a cautious bunch – they put producers in defined boxes and are loathe to give opportunities to untried & untested producers, even though they have experience in other genres. “Oh! He is into non – fiction; he does not have the requisite fiction production experience,” is oft heard in programming circles in channels. ESPN Channel has recently roped in Jasdeep Pannu as India TV initiatives head. At least that’s what MSM India CEO NP Singh & ESPN international Executive vice -president & managing director Russell Wolff had stated at the time of the launch of the new venture. Jan, 2016 saw Sony Kix being rebranded as Sony ESPN & Sony ESPN HD, the 1st of the many channels the 2 want to launch in India.
As a 1st step on the talent front, ESPN has brought in sports television veteran Jasdeep Pannu as head of its TV initiatives in India. Jasdeep Pannu joined the company in Jul, 2016 but has been working in a low key manner since then.

Shailendra Singh, imbibed with a dynamic persona, is a young at heart, energetic and enterprising man. He is full beans at any given moment of the day. Shailendra Singh also happens to be the Jt Director of Percept Limited, an event management company which also deals with commercial ads. Besides as a filmmaker he has producer 74 films till this date. He is now making his directorial debut with his upcoming film Sunshine Music Tours And Travels, which is all set to hit the marquée on 2nd Sept, 2016.

As a producer you have made scores of films over the years. Then how come you took so long to make your directorial debut?

As a producer I had spent my hard earned money from my event management company Percept Limited and gave a break to many directors, actors and even many technicians. And till this date I have ended up producing, distributing and releasing 74 films. So when I thought of making my directorial debut I started searching for the right producers to back my most ambitious project centering around the most popular annual Sunburn Festival of Goa. I really enjoyed producing films with my own money and now I wanted to see if I can really enjoy making a film by putting other producer’s money at stake.

Time to briefly narrate the concept of Sunshine Music Tours And Travels.

My upcoming film Sunshine Music Tours And Travels is a musically oriented travel film. The film revisits Bollywood’s superhit travel film Bombay To Goa. It is a travel musical made especially for people who still believe that they are young at heart. My debut directorial film Sunshine Music Tours And Travels has ample doses of comedy and drama. It has all the ingredients of a commercial potboiler. It is full of non – stop entertainment, fun and enjoyment. In short the film travels from Kashmir to Goa covering a distance of 2874 KM carrying 14 strangers who all have dreams in their eyes and some of their dreams are fulfilled when they reach Goa and take part in Goa’s most popular annual Sunburn Festival. The main protagonist of the film enacted by debutant Sunny Kaushal is named Sunburn. He is a small town boy of Kashmir who works in a dhabba and always listens to Sunburn music and dreams of attending the Sunburn Festival of Goa one day. Not only these all the 14 strangers who meet in the bus have their own dreams and stories to tell during their journey from Kashmir to Goa.

Is it a ploy to give more popularity to the Sunburn Festival of Goa, an annual event conceptualised and organised by your own event management company since its inception?

Sunburn Festival is already popular by now in India as well as all over the globe, with lakhs and lakhs of people attending every year in the month of January so it does not need any more popularity. Actually the film is based on a true story of a small town boy from Kashmir who always dreamt of visting the Sunburn Festival and the rest of the film is a fictionalised account centering around the Sunburn Festival.

Give us an insight into the cast & crew of Sunshine Music Tours And Travels.

As I said earlier the main protagonist of the film is Sunny Kaushal who was selected through an intense audition process. I only came to much later that Sunny happened to be the son of Bollywood’s famed action director Sham Kaushal and also the brother of actor Vicky Kaushal who had made his debut last year with the most talked about film Masaan. Anyways the rest of the debutant actors will get a proper on screen inroduction. As far as the crew is concerned the film has been produced by Kavanjit Hayre, executive producer is Percept Pictures, associate producer is Yusuf Shaikh, screenplay and dialogues by Shailendra Singh and Sehaj K. Maini, edited by Keval Shukla, music by Edward Avil, background score by Kingshuk Chakraborty, cinematography by Arshad Khan, written and directed by Shailendra Singh and produced under the banner of Hayare Entertainment in association with Percept Pictures Presents.

You have taken all debutant actors for Sunshine Music Tours And Travels whereas you could have made the film with established stars.

Yes I could have made the film with established stars but still I opted for debutant actors as I did not wish to comprise on the freshness factor of the film. That apart big stars means big money and then what’s the guarantee that the film will definately hit the bull’s eye. Salman Khan’s Sultan’s budget
was around 150 crores and it earned around 300 crores so considering its huge budget I believe that its profit margin was no great shakes. I don’t believe in such economics of filmmaking especially when I am making a film with other producer’s money. So I decided to make a small buget film with an all new cast and if the film hits the bull’s eye then our profit margin will also be great and everybody will have its benefits in their own way.

You have distributed and released most of your films so what do you feel is the distribution scenario in the present times?

Nowadays only a handful of corporate houses distribute and release only the films that they feel will be commercially viable. But even they tend to make a wrong move most of the time. So why do you think I used to distribute my own films most of the time?. Then the multiplex scenario is also nothing much to rave about. They are also desperate to exhibit only commercially viable films. Today a family ends up coughing a huge amount to watch a single film including the ever increasing ticket rates. And then also they are deprived of a common thing like water. I was the first person to install a water cooler in a multiplex. I also feel that Just as bars and pubs have “Happy Hours” for its customers then why can’t the multiplexes also have “Happy Hours” for the cine goers. This is the sorriest state of affairs of multiplexes. So where will a common layman go to watch a film? But I think the days of single théâtres will be back soon.

Sunny Kaushal, the Punjabi lad, wanted to be a chartered accountant but lost his interest midway and then aspired to be an actor. After a long process of giving scores of auditions he finally got a chance to don the grease paint and face the arc lights, that too after passing an intense audition process with flying colours. Sunny Kaushal is now keeping his fingers and toes crossed for the release of his debut making film Sunshine Music Tours And Travels.

What made you to take a sudden décision to be an actor instead of a chartered accountant?

It was not a sudden decision. I was indeed a chartered accountant in the making but my heart was not into it. Its sounds cliched but I always wanted to do something creative. So even before my elder brother Vicky Kaushal made a debut as an actor with Masaan last year. I was also aspiring to be an actor. Besides my father Sham Kaushal is Bollywood’s famed action director.

How did you go about to make inroads in Bollywood to become an actor?

Just like any other struggling actor even I went through the whole grind of the intense auditioning process. Of late struggling actors do not have to go knocking on the doors of the varied production houses. Its the casting directors who decide the fate of a wannabe actor. Yes even I faced a whole lot of rejection and dejection, I also tried to pick up the ropes of filmmaking by being an assistant director for films like My Friend Pinto and Gunday, and I finally bagged my debut film. But the interesting part is that I never revealed my identity of hailing from a filmy family to anyone. Even Shailendra Sir came to know about me much later.

What’s your role in your debut film?

I enact the role of a small town orphaned boy from Kashmir. Who is working in a Dhabba as a boy who serves people. Out there a lot of English music is played because a lot of foreigners visit these Dhabbas. Gradually I fall for these English music and also come to know about the annual Sunburn (music and dance) Festival through the foreigners. Since then it becomes my dream to visit the Sunburn Festival in Goa. So I undertake the bus journey from Kashmir to Goa with 14 other strangers who in turn have their own dreams. My character named Sunburn is based on a real life incident.

How was it working with debutant director Shailendra Singh?

Honestly it was phenomenal. He is the best young at heart director that I have come across. His round the clock vibrant energy inspired me to give off my best. We travelled all the way from Kashmir to Goa. It was more of a mauj masti oriented picnic. To the extent that we became very nostalgic when it was all over. Moreover Shailendra Sir never gave us a script. He just had one script reading session with the entire cast, then explained a lot about our character in detail and then gave us a totally free hand to explore and improvise on our own.

To wrap it up some rapid fire queries for you. Who are your most favourite actors in Bollywood and Hollywood?

My most favourite actors in Bollywood are Anil Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. In Hollywood they are Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence. She reminds me so much of Alia Bhatt in all aspects and respects.

Your wishlist of Bollywood directors.

The list is long enough and exhaustive like Raju Hirani, Manish Sharma, Vishal Bhardwaj, Anurag Kashyap, Aditya Chopra, Karan Johar to name just a few.

Your favourite Bollywood and Hollywood movies.

My all time favourite films in Bollywood are Pyaasa, Deewar, Rang De Basanti, 3 Idiots and of course my brother’s film Masaan. In Hollywood they are Godfather trilogy, Dog’s Day Afternoon, Silver Linining And Playbook, Grounded and Baby’s Day Out.

Your dream role if given a chance?

I am a big fan of Superhero films both in Hollywood and Bollywood. So if given a chance I would like to enact the role of any Supehero hands down.

This is part of the Government of Jharkhand’s efforts to refine its social infrastructure, where entertainment and recreation have assumed increasingly critical importance to enhance urban cosmopolitanism, boost employment opportunities and woo global investors. Carnival group is now also all set to establish centers across the state that will blend in skill, entertainment & education. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand Raghubar Das said, “There are many options in Jharkhand like entertainment, tourism, food processing, IT sectors with good investment potential. We are trying to address each sector in a phased manner to attract investment.” “ Carnival will set up minimum of 75 theatres – cum -recreational zones in 18 districts of the 24 districts of Jharkhand and the state government will facilitate them land from an acre to 1.5 acres per project,” said Under Secretary of The State Urban Development Department Rahul Kumar. Carnival Group spokesperson said, “In the process of developing green field projects, we may take up additional existing infrastructure such as spacious loss making single – screens to remodel them and make it viable. According to MoU, we have 2 years from now to start work at the ground level.”

Param Gill’s directorial debut has landed him in big trouble. The film faces unofficial ban in India but will open in US, UK & Australia on 2nd Sept, 2016. The international version of film minus music videos has been hailed by critics, but it has struggled with its release in India. The reviews in India have been unfavorable as well. There is massive support for the film in US, with a theatrical premiere in Los Angeles set to be punctuated with major Hollywood celebrities. Globally acclaimed Adoor Gopalakrishnan is a film maestro, who played a pivotal role in pioneering the new wave cinema movement in Kerala. Touted as one of the finest filmmakers of India, Adoor has carved a niche for himself as an ace film maker. With an illustrious career spanning golden jubilee years, Adoor graduated from the Film Institute of Pune in 1965 with specialization in screenplay writing & advanced film direction. The same year he pioneered the film society movement in Kerala and took the initiative to form India’s 1st film co -operative for production, distribution & exhibition of quality films.

Born in Kerala in 1941, Adoor started acting on the amateur stage at the tender age of eight and wrote & directed several stage plays during his student days.

All the 11 films he directed, from Swayamvaram to Oru Pennum Randaanum (2008), were screened at several international film festivals and won him several national & international awards.

In 2004, the country has honoured Adoor with India’s highest cinema award, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for his contributions to the Indian cinema. He has received the Padma Shri in 1984 & the Padma Vibhushan in 2006. He won national film awards 16 times, Kerala state film awards 17 times in addition to many other international film awards. He was awarded the prestigious British Film Institute award for his acclaimed movie Elippathayam (1981).

A. R. Murugadoss Starts Shooting For His New Film

The shooting of the much expected Telugu & Tamil bilingual project of director A. R. Murugadoss with Tollywood Prince Mahesh Babu commenced in Hyderabad on Friday 29th Jul, 2016.
The film stars S. J. Suryah as the lead villain while Rakul Preet Singh has been roped in to play the female lead. One can expect the official announcement on other cast & crew members of the film. It is believed that Harris Jayaraj will do the musical score for this film. Meanwhile Murugadoss has completed the Bollywood flick Akira starring Sonakshi Sinha in the lead role and the film is scheduled to hit the screens on 2nd Sept, 2016.

Ajith Is On The Way To AK 57 Shooting Spot

Thala Ajith will be catching his flight to Bulgaria this weekend, for the shooting of his 57th film directed by Siva. The much -loved star has been spotted in the airport, earlier this week. Siva who has earlier delivered 2 super hits with Ajith in the form of Veeram & Vedalam, has taken up an espionage thriller this time and Ajith reportedly plays an FBI official in this film. The 1st schedule will go on for 40 days in Bulgaria and the team will be shooting in the famous Nubouyana studio, where no Tamil films have been shot so far. AK 57 will have the musical score of Anirudh Ravichander and the film is being bankrolled by Sathya Jyothi Films.

Nayan Secretly Shooting For A New Tamil Film

Remember Minjur Gopi? The film maker who filed a case against director A. R. Murugadoss, claiming that the latter stole his story and made the Vijay starrer blockbuster Kaththi and later withdrew the case, has now silently started a new film and has completed the 1st schedule of shoot. This film does not star new or less popular faces as one would expect. Instead it stars the most admired & sought after heroine of Tamil cinema. Yes the film stars Nayanthara in an important role of a district Collector. She has apparently completed shooting for her portions in the 1st schedule itself.
Apart from Nayan, the film also stars Ramesh & Vignesh the two boys who shot to fame with Kaaka Muttai. Vignesh has also acted in director Samuthirakani’s recent super hit Appa. The supporting cast includes Sunu Lakshmi who has acted in films like Sengathu Boomiyile and Ramachandran of Sathuranga Vettai fame.

Joker’ Gets A Release Date

Director Raju Murugan’s 2nd film Joker will be hitting the screens on 1st Aug, 2016 to cash in on the Independence Day holiday weekend. The makers have released a poster mentioning the release date. Recently the film acquired a clean U certificate from Censor board. The film stars Guru Somasundaram in the lead role along with debutantes Ramya Pandian & Gayathri. Veteran theatre personality Ramasamy, writer Bava Chelladurai & Sa.Balamurugan have acted in important supporting characters.
Joker is touted to be a political satire with musical score by Sean Roldon. The film has been produced by S. R. Prakash Babu & S. R. Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures banner.

Prakash Raj All Set For Manavoori Ramayanam

Prakash Raj, the maker of Dhoni & Ulavacharu Biryani, is bracing up to release his 3rd film. Like his 1st 2 films, this too is a multi – lingual film. Another similarity is that this too has music by Maestro Illayaraja. Titled as Manavoori Ramayanam, this film is set in the backdrop of a village. Prakash Raj has today confirmed its release in Sept, 2016. He had plans to release way back in Feb, 2016 itself, but it hasn’t been possible. The release date will be announced after the censor is done. The 1st 2 films didn’t have a good run at the Box Office turnstiles, although they were critically acclaimed.

Majnu’s 1st Look Arrives

High on the success of KVPG & Gentleman this year, Nani is all set for this 3rd film. The 1st look of his next is out, confirming the title as Majnu. The movie will hit the screens in Sept, 2016. Directed by Virinchi Varma of Uyyala Jampala fame, Nani is paired up with Anu Emmanuel (of Mollywood) & Riya Ludhani, a Mumbai based model. The 1st look announces the arrival of a breezy rom – com. Nani is seen smiling in his quintessential style. Gesturing at a teddy, he is wearing a tee which has “Ori Nee Veshalu” written on it. An old – style gramophone completes the charm. While music is by Gopi Sundar, the cinematography is by Gnanasekhar. It is produced by Anandi Arts & Keva Movies.

Hyper 1st Look Date

It’s known that Ram is bracing up for an action – cum – family entertainer for this Dasara. With the shoot of his film with director Santosh Srinivas nearing completion, the film is in post production phase. 14 Reels is planning to release it on 30th Sept, 2016. The news is that the makers have confirmed the title to be Hyper. True to the power – packed title, they are going for the tagline – Prathi Intlo Okaduntadu’, meaning that there is one “hyper case” in every home. The film has Sathyaraj playing Ram’s father.
The first look of this big – ticket film will be out on 3rd Aug, 2016. Music is directed by Ghibran, it is set to be Ram’s 2nd release after Nenu Sailaja this year.

MANOJ BAJPAYEE IS SHOOTING FOR ‘IN THE SHADOWS’ WITH BELGIAN ACTRESS LAURA VERLINDEN

Manoj Bajpayee is filming an international project, IN THE SHADOWS, along with the Belgian actress, Laura Verlinden in the walled city of old Delhi. Starring Ranvir Shorey (TITLI), Neeraj Kabi (TALWAR & SHIP OF THESEUS) & Shahana Goswami (ROCK ON!) in key roles, the psychological drama film marks the directorial debut of Los Angeles based filmmaker, Dipesh Jain. Writer – producer Harry Sachdeva’s 31ST OCTOBER starring Soha Ali Khan& Vir Das and based on the aftermath of Indira Gandhi’s assassination is inching towards its release. The Revisiting Committee of the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has passed the film after a 4 month waimily, 31ST OCTOBER, directed by National award winning Shivaji Lotan Patil, it is a close depiction of one of the darkest days in Indian history. Producer Harry, who had to make some modifications, says, “It took time but we were eventually able to convince the Censor Board to retain the scenes which brought out the realism of the story and were important to the narrative. Many of the scenes depicting violence & bloodshed had to be edited. I took 9 major cuts. The Revising Committee made us re – submit the film several times, trimming down scenes that they had issues with by 6 to 7 minutes. All verbal abuses have been beeped, even something as common as ‘saala’ on several instances.” 31ST OCTOBER is an edge – of – the – seat thriller based on the aftermath of Indira Gandhi’s assassination by her 2 Sikh bodyguards, which completely shook the political scenario of the country.

RITEISH DESHMUKH OPTS FOR HERBAL CIGARETTES FOR HIS ROLE IN ‘BANJO’!

Riteish Deshmukh, who will be seen playing a street musician in Eros International’s musical drama, BANJO, had to come out of his comfort zone to shoot for a smoking sequence. While shooting for the movie, directed by critically – acclaimed filmmaker Ravi Jadhav, Riteish had to enact a couple of scenes in which his role required him to smoke. But since the talented actor is a non – smoker, he used herbal cigarettes to make his performance look real & believable. Riteish is against smoking. He was asked to smoke for some of his previous roles as well. But he always said no. However, in BANJO, he is playing the role of a street performer. He realised that his role required him to smoke. So, he opted for herbal cigarettes that do not contain tobacco. Riteish confirms, “To make my character look more believable, I was supposed to smoke in a few scenes, as that was integral to the script. Thankfully, I had to smoke herbal cigarettes and not the actual ones that are harmful.” BANJO, produced by Eros International & directed by Ravi Jadhav starring Riteish Deshmukh & Nargis Fakhri, releases on 23rd Sept, 2016.

DISHA PATANI TAKES UP TO SQUARE DANCING AS A FITNESS REGIME

Disha Patani may have wowed audiences with her super toned physique in the song “Befikra”, holding her own alongside Tiger Shroff. However, very few know that Disha is a trained gymnast and is extremely passionate about fitness. While in China shooting for KUNG FU YOGA with Jackie Chan the actress learnt a new dance form called “Square Dancing”, an exercise routine performed to music in squares, plazas or parks of the nation’s cities. Having practiced it a few times Disha felt much more at ease as the routine has a calming effect on the mind as much as its benefits for the body. Says Disha, “Since my fitness regime is very hectic, this really helps in centering me and is a lot of fun.”

HERE’S HOW NARGIS FAKHRI & KRISHIKA LULLA LEARNT MARATHI ON THE SETS OF ‘BANJO’!

Nargis Fakhri who will be seen playing a New – York based DJ in Eros International’s upcoming musical drama, BANJO, starring Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role, had difficulty understanding Marathi on the sets of the movie. Most of the people on the sets including her co – star Riteish, director Ravi Jadhav and the crew members used to converse in Marathi (being their mother – tongue), which sort of became a problem for Nargis to understand what the conversation was all about. For that matter, even producer Krishika Lulla faced the same problem. Interestingly, both Nargis & Krishika used to overhear people talking in Marathi which sort of helped them learning the nuances of the language. This exercise certainly helped the 2 lovely ladies on the sets. Nargis says, “Most of the people on the set including Ravi sir, Riteish & the crew members used to converse in Marathi that raised my curiosity to know what was the conversation all about. So I used to check the same with the production guys and learnt a few common Marathi words quickly.”
