Shiv Bhakt’ Rahul Gandhi All Set to Undertake Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

August 29, 2018 by Nasheman

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is likely to undertake the Kailash Mansarover yatra at the end of this month. This is in keeping with his “I am a Shiv bhakt” sentiment. It is considered to be one of the most auspicious yatras by devout Shiv bhakts.

Rahul had first made this announcement at a jan aakrosh rally in April at the Ramlila maidan — a carefully chosen podium to make the announcement. Rahul had then said that he had decided to take this yatra after he narrowly escaped an air mishap while campaigning during Karnataka elections. His flight had gone off radar for a few minutes and the Congress blamed the BJP for not cooperating and understanding the gravity of the situation.

Rahul had then announced that he would take this yatra to thank lord Shiva.

However, MEA sources had said that he had not applied for the yatra as yatris need to be registered as the route goes through China as well. Sources say he is likely to go. Options are given for special permission and private travel agencies too organise these yatras.

Rahul is trying to send a larger message of being a devout Hindu as part of his strategy of soft Hindutva. Through Gujarat and Karnataka elections, Rahul has been seen in temples and at one time was even seen wearing a rudraksh. The party had said Rahul and his family were Janayeu dhaari.

The Congress had assessed after 2014 elections that its minority appeasement had boomeranged on them with disastrous results, hence the course correction.

In 2015 just after the Uttarakhand floods, Rahul had undertaken the Kedarnath yatra on foot to once again flaunt his Hindu credentials.

The Kailash yatra concludes on September 8 and Rahul is expected to leave as early as this week.

Jassie Gill Turns Turbanator

Popular singer Jassie Gill, who is eagerly anticipating the release of his big Bollywood debut, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, produced by Eros International & Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions & directed by Mudassar Aziz, had a whale of a time shooting for the laughter riot. Besides sharing the screen space with Sonakshi Sinha for the 1st time ever and working with Aanand L Rai & his costars including Diana Penty, Jimmy Shergill, Piyush Mishra & Ali Fazal, the film is quite special to Jassie Gill for quite a few reasons, including the fact that he had to sport several pagdis in the movie! Since he belongs to a Sardar family, he was always fond of wearing a pagdi, Jassi Gill recollects, “I used to have pictures of popular Punjabi singers on the wall of my room and I used to look at them and wear pagdis. When I started my singing career and was in college, I wore a pagdi for one of the scenes in a music video.” Then i wore a Pagdi in my video Bapu Zimidar & Att Karti, with the grace of Almightly, both became sensational hits. While most of his costars only changed into their next costume” Jassie Gill would take relatively more time to change since he had to wear a Pagdi as well! Interestingly, Mudassar Aziz along with the cast would often playfully pull his leg over this by blaming him for delaying a shot! “I didn’t anticipate that I’ll get the opportunity to wear a pagdi in just my debut film. People all over Punjab have really appreciated my pagdi look in Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi. It gives me a feeling of pride to wear a pagdi,” Jassie adds. Presented by Eros International & Aanand L Rai, A Colour Yellow Production, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, will hit the theatres on 24th Aug, 2018.

Such was the reception that the song went on to cross 7 million views in less than 8 hours. Talking about the idea says music director Amit Trivedi, “Since Vicky plays a DJ in the movie, we felt it would be great if he could sing a few lines in the song to give a real feel to it. It has come out well. When Vicky heard the song, he was pleasantly surprised to hear his voice. He enjoyed the singing process.” Excited to be teaming up with his mentor again says Vicky Kaushal, “I am very excited and I have said this to Anurag as well, but I feel like I should collaborate with him once in every two-three years because he really makes you reinvent yourself as an actor, which I feel is very important for me. Each time I work with him, I see something new in myself and that’s what happened in Manmarziyaan as well.”

Urvashi Rautela Says She Is Proud To Be An Indian

Urvashi Rautela has every year shown tremendous love & patriotism towards our country. Urvashi has also provided a helping hand to her own state Uttarakhand via Urvashi Rautela Foundation. Urvashi says, “We have just celebrated 72ndIndependence Day this year. Today we have reached a level where we can speak up, where social media is voice of every common man and more over we now stand tall for women empowerment, education for all & many other social issues. For women, the price of participating in a healthy debate might often be a rape threat online. While men get verbal abuses, women receive rape threats and comments about their looks & make-up. Today we don’t need society who feels that woman is superior; we just need society where men & women are equal. Choosing a career is very important in today’s world, as your marriage, your standard of living, your profile and even getting your soul mate revolves around this one thing (in most cases). Women’s freedom, women’s independence is to prove to herself not the world, to make herself strong to face this world. Independence doesn’t just bring freedom; it is that zen level where we are creator & destroyer of limitation. “If no one in world values you, then value yourself more, you will become precious!” Make yourself proud, understand the meaning of independence!”

During the shoot of the film, Shraddha was going through a lot of sleepless nights & disturbing dreams. When she discussed it with the team she was suggested to keep a blessed object with her at all times. When the locals heard of this, they bought a chanted crystal pendent and gave it to Shraddha Kapoor to help her with a peaceful stay. SAG Awards on January 26, 2019

August 28, 2018 by Nasheman

The 26th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards will take place on January 26, 2020, a date thats two ahead of the Academy Awards.

The SAG Awards made the announcement Monday afternoon after news broke that the Producers Guild of America will claim January 18, 2020, as the date for its 31st annual Producers Guild Awards, reports variety.com.

The guild awards announcements came less than three weeks after leaders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences moved the 2020 Oscars forward two weeks to February 9.

Variety reported on August 8 that the AMPAS announcement – which included the creation of a controversial best popular film category and limiting the telecast to three hours – came in response to declining ratings and concerns that viewers had become fatigued by the ever-increasing number of televised awards shows.

The SAG Awards took place on January 21 this year. It announced in February that it had staked out January 27, 2019, for its next show. Nominations will be announced on December 12.

The awards are selected by members of SAG-AFTRA, which numbered 121,544 eligible voters this year. This year’s ceremony featured its first-ever host, Kristen Bell.

This smart village empowers differently-abled to stand on their own

August 27, 2018 by Nasheman

In a small village near this famous lake city in Rajasthan, thousands of physically challenged people are given a fresh lease of life. Not only do they receive corrective surgeries free of cost but, during the course of their treatment, they are also imparted training to repair computers and mobiles or learn the art of stitching to ensure they become self-reliant.

The Narayan Seva Sansthan houses in its premises a modern hospital, an orphanage, a smart school, skill imparting institutions, and centres for rehabilitation, physiotherapy and naturotherapy. It is branded as a “smart” village because it has all facilities and means of sustenance for all its inhabitants within the campus, including ATM machines, Internet connectivity and even its own toy train.

Set up by Kailash Agarwal ‘Manav’, a recipient of the Padma Shri for distinguished service, the sole mission of the organisation is to ensure that the differently-abled can stand on their own and start earning a livelihood when they leave the campus.

The organisation provides medical treatment not only to polio-affected people via corrective surgeries, but also offers surgeries to those suffering “by-birth” disabilities, Narayan Seva Sansthan President Prashant Agarwal told IANS.

“Besides caring for the rehabilitation of the poor, needy and differently-abled people, we also equip them and their attendants with skills through computer, mobile repairing, sewing and tailoring classes. Over 4,276 people have benefited from this till date,” Prashant, who is Kailash Agarwal’s son, said.

Vinod Kumar, a physically challenged man from Agra with deformities in his limbs, expressed excitement on being trained in mobile repairing. With twinkling eyes, he told IANS, “I want to set up a shop and start earning once I go back to Agra. The best part here is that I am being trained while undergoing treatment.”

Asha Devi, who was here to get her grandson operated, said: “Although I am 60, I am enjoying learning to stitch frocks and kurtis in different designs. No one in our village has this expertise; hence I am confident that I shall earn a decent income.”

She said the Narayan Seva Sansthan had promised her a sewing machine when she returned to her village.

“As our lodging, food, training and treatment is all free, we treat this place as a temple where all our prayers are heard,” she added.

The organisation has also been conducting regular “mass marriage ceremonies” twice a year for young, physically-challenged boys and girls from underprivileged backgrounds. Till date, 1,298 such couples have tied the knot here.

Agarwal senior, who set up the organisation in 1985, started working for the cause of humanity after visiting a bloody accident site in Sirohi district in 1976, where seven people lost their lives.

“My father was working as a clerk in a post office when he heard about a bus collision in Pindwara, Sirohi. Taking leave from his job, he rushed to the site and was shaken to see the blood-splattered mess. With help from others, he admitted the injured to the general hospital. He started visiting the hospital daily to look after their needs,” Prashant said.

During these visits, he realised how patients battle with daily challenges while also grappling with financial crises. He saw they were hesitant to buy medicines and food as they had no money left with them after incurring medical expenses.

“To help such people, he started distributing a few containers, with ‘Narayan Seva’ written on them, among his relatives and acquaintances and asked them to put some flour in it on a daily basis. Every morning, he and my mother used to prepare chapatis out of the flour they had collected and feed the hungry. Even my sister and I helped,” he said.

While Kailash Agarwal kept this up on his own from 1974 to 1984, he set up Narayan Seva Sansthan as a non-profit charity organisation in 1985 to serve patients belonging to the poorest of the poor of society.

Over time, the organisation grew and is now among the few centres in the world where over 100 corrective surgeries of polio and cerebral palsy are done each day. The institute has given a new lease of life to over 325,000 people with free-of-cost polio corrective surgeries.

Not only does it provide treatment to the patients, it also ensures their relatives are taken care of. Once they reach Udaipur, all expenses of patients and their attendants are borne as long as they are at the institute for treatment.
Prashant said the organisation is blessed with a strong team of medical practitioners.

“With its headquarter at Udaipur in Rajasthan, the organisation has a 1,100-bed hospital where patients from around the country and abroad make their way for treatment and surgeries,” he said.

Irrespective of caste, creed and religion, the organisation serves all — Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians, he said.

It also runs a Narayan Children’s Academy, with its well-equipped classes, for tribal students residing nearby. It is a delight and surprise to see tribal students studying in e-classes. The organisation runs a school bus which picks up students in the morning, are given breakfast and lunch in school, and are dropped to their homes in the evening. This too is a free service.

The students are also provided school uniforms and stationery. The organisation also runs a residential school for the deaf and dumb, blind and mentally-challenged children.

However, Prashant said this was just a start as there are thousands awaiting their turn to get surgeries done.

“Our vision is to spread our wings to ensure that all differently-abled people walk with confidence, overcoming all odds — be it physical or financial.”

Vajpayee’s ashes dissolved in Beas river in Manali

August 27, 2018 by Nasheman

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and his cabinet colleagues on Sunday dispersed the ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the Beas river at a function here.

Earlier, a prayer meeting to pay tributes to him was held at a tourist resort where Vajpayee constructed his house.

Hundreds of people paid homage to their beloved leader, who died on August 16 in New Delhi.

Paying tributes, Thakur called Vajpayee a visionary leader who was above party politics. His demise was indeed a great loss to the nation in general and Himachal Pradesh in particular.

He said Vajpayee has a special place in his heart for the people of the state and the state would always miss his love and benevolence.

Vajpayee always considered Himachal Pradesh his second home and has a house at Prini (near here). Whenever he got time from his busy schedule, he visited Manali and wrote some unforgettable poems there, the Chief Minister said.

The idea to construct the Rohtang tunnel connecting the landlocked Lahaul valley with the rest of the world was conceived by Vajpayee in 1998 and the project was announced by him on June 3, 2000, he added.

Thakur said that this project was nearing completion and would be the biggest gift of Vajpayee to the state.

Forest Minister and local legislator Govind Thakur said Vajpayee had special love for the people of the state in general and Kullu-Manali in particular.

Member of Parliament Ram Swaroop Sharma described Vajpayee as a world leader with a poet from the heart.

For a change, Onam brings cheer in relief camps

August 25, 2018 by Nasheman

Survivors of Kerala’s worst floods in a century on Saturday set aside their misery, even if only temporarily, to celebrate Onam in numerous relief camps across the state, relishing the traditional Onam ‘sadya’ or lunch.

The second day of the harvest festival, called Thiru Onam, fell on Saturday.

Camp officers ensured the availability of vegetables and other commodities after men and women in the camps insisted they would cook the ‘sadya’ themselves instead of accepting what was being offered by NGOs and clubs.

Of course not all the 26 dishes that constitute the ‘sadya’ could be readied but people appeared to be happy with what they could prepare.

Children in the camps gathered whatever flowers were available in and around the camp sites to prepare floral carpets.

Ever since monsoon rains began lashing Kerala on May 29, a total of 417 people have died. This month, unprecedented floods caused widespread destruction and forced more than a million people to flee their homes to take shelter in relief centres.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday evening said 8.69 lakh people were still sheltered in 2,787 camps, big and small.

“We refused a sponsored Onam ‘sadya’. Our own lunch turned out to be a huge success,” said Parvathy, a middle aged woman who has been in a camp in Alappuzha for the past five days.

At a camp supported by a state-run engineering college, student volunteers joined the Onam celebrations.

In Kottayam, residents of Aymenem and Kumarakom said the Onam ‘sadya’ provided them huge relief after unending stories of human suffering.

“The bonhomie lit up our lives especially when we prepared our own ‘sadya’,” said a woman who was getting ready to return to her home.

Added Devika, at a camp in Kozihikod: “The tragedy has helped us learn many things which we never ever thought we would learn. We feel we have passed the litmus test.”

Bringing solace to a relief camp in Kodungalloor on Saturday was superstar Mammootty, who urged everyone to keep a positive frame of mind.

“You are going to rebuild your lives. Remember, many of you were saved by people who never knew you. Likewise, while a million people were affected by the floods, 30 million Keralites were not. Just like you were saved by unknown people, unknown people all across Kerala will come to your rescue when you rebuild your lives.

“Also, the Kerala government is there with you. Just be positive,” he said.

On Onam, PM Modi’s sombre message for Kerala speaks of strength and hope

August 25, 2018 by Nasheman

Onam celebrations have been understandably subdued across flood-hit Kerala this year. Homes bore minimal decorations while several temples across the state chose to use funds meant for celebrations to provide much-needed relief materials to locals staring at the ongoing crisis. PM Narendra Modi on Saturday had a sombre Onam message for people in the state and assured them of the entire country’s help.

PM Modi took to Twitter to wish people on Onam. “May this Onam give further strength to the people of Kerala to overcome the adversities they have been facing for the past few days,” he wrote. “The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with Kerala and prays for the happiness as well as prosperity of its citizens.”

President Ram Nath Kovind too expressed hope that the state recovers from the devastating floods. “Good wishes to fellow citizens, particularly to our brothers and sisters in Kerala, on Onam. May this festival mark a new beginning for all those in Kerala recovering in the aftermath of the floods, and gradually beginning to rebuild their lives,” he posted on Twitter.

The prevailing situation in the state has been described by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as the worst natural calamity here in 100 years. He also said that preliminary assessment of losses was around Rs 20,000 crore which was equal to state’s annual plan size for 2018-19.

While lakhs of people have returned to their homes, some estimates say that around 8.69 lakh people are still in 2287 relief camps across the state. 231 people have lost their lives in the deluge. And while there is a tussle between the state government and the Centre over an ‘offer’ of Rs 700 crore in aid from UAE, people across the country have united to send relief materials and give monetary assistance. The Centre too has released Rs 600 crores in assistance, promising more in the time to come.

The ground reality continues to be extremely grim and what would have otherwise been a joyous occasion to celebrate the state’s harvest festival has turned rather colourless.
