Harshvardhan Kapoor who has already floored everyone with his professionalism & dedication as an actor, will soon start shooting for the next schedule of Vikramaditya Motwane’s BHAVESH JOSHI. As the next schedule of the film is soon to go on the floors, the young star is using his free time to work on his look and prep for the film. While the crew moves to a new location, the actor is working on sporting a beefed look and is sweating it out in the gym 5 hours every day .Before the next schedule of the vigilante drama goes on floors, Harshvardhan is using the time to work on his physique and put on major muscle. Since he has very little time on his hands, he is spending almost 5 hours in the gym everyday and is on a strict no carb -high protein diet”.

DILJIT TO STAR IN EKTA’S PUNJABI DEBUT PRODUCTION

It seems like Punjabi films are the next big destination for movie Bollywood bigwigs. In the recent past, not just film studios but big names such as Akshay Kumar & Priyanka Chopra have also ventured into Punjabi film production. Now, we have learnt that producer Ekta Kapoor is the next in line. The UDTA PUNJAb actor, Diljit Dosanjh, is supposed to star in the project, which will be directed by National award – winning director Anurag Singh. Interestingly, Anurag & Diljit have already worked together on films such as the Jatt & Juliet series & PUNJAB 1984 (2014). While Ekta couldn’t be reached for a comment, Diljit says, “It’s been my long cherished dream to give Punjabi audiences their own super hero. It fills me with pride that this dream is finally coming to life. What has made it even more special is that I get to make this dream come alive with my favourite director Anurag.” After making his Hindi film debut with UDTA PUNJAB, Diljit will next be seen with Anushka Sharma in the latter’s next home production, PHILLAURI.

ANSHUMAN JHA TURNS PRODUCER WITH THE THRILLER ‘MONA_DARLING’

Actor Anshuman Jha, who made his Bollywood debut with LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA and followed it up with films like YEH HAI BAKRAPUR & CHAURANGA, has now turned producer. His banner, First Ray Films, is all set to release India’s 1st social media -based whodunit, MONA_DARLING, directed by Shashi Sudigala. First Ray Films is an extension of Jha’s theatre company, First Ray Theatre Group, known for the Indian Adaptation of David Gieselmann’s MR KOLPERT & Girish Karnad’s BALI. Kailash Kulkarni, one of the partners at the production house, says, “I have followed Anshuman’s work on stage for the past decade. He doesn’t own a house in Mumbai and drives a simple car. However, he has managed to get together people to form a company and produce a multi – crore film. “Anshuman’s tryst with theatre began when he was 14. A year later, he made his stage debut at Prithvi Theatre. The Delhi boy got a diploma in acting from Barry John when he was 17 and has worked with veterans like Quasar Padamsee, Joy Fernandes & Jaimini Pathak. Set in a period from 1972 to 1977, INDU SARKAR is a story of a stammering poetess who gains confidence and rebels against the system during emergency. Kirti Kulhari of PINK fame plays the title role while Anupam Kher, popular Bengali actor Tota Roy Chaudhary, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Parveen Dabbas, Sheeba Chadda & Zakir Hussain have pivotal roles in the ensemble cast. Bappi Lahiri has sung a retro song composed by Anu Malik, Shyam Kaushani is the action director while Nitin Chandrakant Desai has created the sets for the film that was shot in Karjat for a 25 days schedule.

PRAKASH PANGE NO MORE

Prakash Pange, who had worked in Trade Guide from the early 70’s till the 90’s and later in Box Office expired on 1st Feb, 2017 after a brief illness. Prakash Pange had also joined Manmohan Desai’s camp as the PRO and was the line producer in films like NASEEB, ALLAHRAKHA, DESH PREMEE, TOOFAN, YEH HAI JALWA, Romu Sippy’s ANDAR BAHAR, Dharma Productions, F. C. Mehra, Pramod Chakravorty, David Dhawan, Smita Thakarey etc. He was busy completing the shooting of SHAKAAL for a Pune based producer. Extremely affectionate, endearing & helpful in nature, Prakash used to make friends easily and was extremely witty and a warm hearted person. He was only 62 and is survived by his 2 sons, daughter – in – laws, grandsons & granddaughters. I pray God to let his soul rest in peace.

We all know that siblings Shraddha & Siddhanth Kapoor are currently shooting for Apoorva Lakhia’s HASEENA in which the duo are also playing reel life siblings for the 1st time ever on screen. Recently when the 2 were shooting for some heavy duty dramatic scenes in the film, we hear that Shraddha & Siddhanth got so immersed & carried away in their respective scenes while performing the scene that they actually broke down in tears, sparking a huge meltdown! Witnessing their intensity & cathartic display, the crew members were also quite touched by the brother – sister and were unable to carry on with their work…….So much so that, Apoorva had to stop the shoot for an hour so that everyone could compose themselves, post which the shoot resumed. The title track of director Shashank Khaitan’s BADRI KI DULHANIA is a tribute to Holi. Interestingly, BADRI KI DULHANIA is also the 1st Holi number for the lead actors, Varun Dhawan & Alia Bhatt, though the latter had a montage scene of the festival in producer Karan Johar’s earlier offering, 2 STATES. Composed by Tanishq Bagchi, penned by Shabbir Ahmed & choreographed by Ganesh Acharya, the peppy track gives a feel of what the movie is all about. Picturised on a set specially built for the purpose, the song, which was released recently, has the vibe of nautanki in small towns and how people come together to celebrate the festival. Shashank says, “We’ve tried to treat the festival in a novel way – it’s not restricted to using pichkaris & throwing colours. We have used colours as part of choreography, and there is a lot more dancing in our song. While we’ve seen Varun do hardcore commercial stuff, this is the 1st time ever you’ll see Alia do such a dance number. Though she has done “Radha On The Dance Floor” in STUDENT OF THE YEAR, which was a younger & cool number, she has a 90s’ look in BADRI KI DULHANIA.“

5 Year Old Prachiti Shines

On Location Muhurat & Shoot Of Parth Films International’s Maiden Venture Krina

One sunny Sunday morning the spokesperson of Parth Films International & media coordinator Raju Kariya escorted a chosen few media persons to Surve Farm, Panvel to witness the muhurat & marathon shooting coverage of Parth Films International’s maiden venture titled Krina. Debutante Parth Chauhan enacts the title role of a mini super hero in Krina who tries to solve the problems of a misunderstood clash of titans between the 2 heads of adivasi (tribal) villages.

Present on the location was Parth Chauhan along with veteran actors Inder Kumar, Shahbaaz Khan, producer Harvinder Singh Chauhan, director Mukesh Kumar and music composer Dilip Sen. The muhurat shot was performed on Parth Chauhan and the auspicious muhurat clap was given by veteran music composer Dilip Sen.

On this occasion we had an interaction, moderated by Pro Raju Kariya, with producer Harvinder Singh Chauhan, director Mukesh Kumar, Parth Chauhan, Inder Kumar & Shahbaaz Khan and here is what they had to say about Krina.

Producer Harvinder Singh Chauhan: “I am a simple businessman and never thought of entering the film industry but when my director Mukesh Kumar came to me with his proposal of directing a film I started thinking about it, but still I took almost a year to agree mainly to see how serious Mukesh is. Finally I gave him the green signal and he came up with half a dozen subjects from which I selected to make an interesting subject like Krina. The next thing I knew was that Mukesh wanted my son Parth Chauhan to enact the title role of Krina. I agreed only after Mukesh personally trained Parth for almost 6 months and prepared him totally to face the camera and also to do total justice to the role and that too with absolute perfection.”

Director Mukesh Kumar: “I have been around in the film industry for a long time now having assisted many small screen & big screen directors. I was on the look out for an independant directorial venture. And finally I succeeded after a long time in convincing Harvinderji to launch Krina under his own home production banner Parth Films International. And I selected Parth to enact the tittle role because I saw the potential in him and besides I also personally trained him so that he can enact the role of a mini super hero named Krina effortlessly. As for the subject matter of Krina, we do not wish to reveal much at this stage. Suffice it to say that Krina is the story of a misunderstood clash of titans between the 2 heads of an adivasi (tribal) village. And how Krina (Parth Chauhan) tries to solve the issue at hand after donning the mantle of a super hero. The 30 days marathon shooting stint begins from today and Krina will not only be shot at Surve Farm, Panvel but also in Filmcity, Mumbai besides varied other locales of Shimla & Kulu Manali.”

Parth Chauhan: “I believe that Krina, in which I enact the title role, is a really good break for a debutante actor like me. Besides Krina also happens to be on of the names of Lord Krishna. That apart the entire credit goes to my director Mukeshji, for selecting me for this main role, for laying his trust in me and also for training me with utmost perfection to enact the role of a mini super hero Krina.”

Inder Kumar: “In Krina I enact the role of an antagonist who is the head of an adivasi village and is having a fight against the head of another adivasi village. Uptill now I had played the leading roles in all the movies I had done, but now enacting this antagonist role be a different experience altogether for me.”

Shahbaaz Khan: “I have this negative image in the film industry, having enacted mostly a bad person’s roles in films & television. But in Krina I am playing the role of a protagonist who is the head of a tribal village and one who is always with mini super hero Krina since he decides to solve the conflicting issues between the 2 village heads. I really loved the role narrated to me by my director Mukesh Kumar.”

Music Composer Dilip Sen: “Krina has an altogether different kind of music. I have finished recording all the songs. In fact Krina’s music has different shades of songs catering to a wider spectrum of music lovers. And amongst all the numbers, the title song will be the major highlight of Krina. In fact you can also say that music will be one of the main USP of Krina.”

DEEPTI NAVAL DONATES ORIGINAL SCRIPT OF ‘CHETNA’ TO NFAI

On the occasion of its Foundation Day, renowned actress Deepti Naval has handed over the original script of the film CHETNA (1970) directed by B. R. Ishara, starring Shatrughan Sinha, Rehana Sultan & Anil Dhawan to NFAI. Prakash Magdum, Director NFAI averred, “We are grateful to Deepti Naval for providing us the original script for preservation. We appeal to all film lovers to come forward and submit any such rare material so that it can be preserved for future generations”. In another significant acquisition, NFAI has added over 1000 film synopsis & song booklets and rare photographs to its rich collection. National Film Archive of Indian (NFAI), Pune celebrated its 53rd Foundation Day (1st Feb, 2017) with a festival of restored classic films on the coming weekend, that is, 4th Feb, 2017 & 5th Feb, 2017. Films like GULACHA GANPATI (1953), KAGAZ KE PHOOL (1959) & MEGHE DHAKA TARA (1960) will be screened in the NFAI Auditorium across the period of 2 days. The Heritage Walk open to all from 4 pm to 5 pm on 4th Feb, 2017 will allow visitors to tour the facilities of NFAI including the projection room, library, auditorium and the research & documentation section. Film storage vaults at NFAI’s Kothrud premises will also be open for guided tours.

Renowned Urdu poet & lyricist Jaswant Rai Sharma, known to the world by his pen name Naqsh Lyallpuri, died at the age of 89. He had been ailing for some time and breathed his last around 11.15 am at his Andheri home. Born in Llallpur in the part of Punjab now in Pakistan, Lyallpuri came to Mumbai in the late 1940s to make a career in Hindi cinema. Though he got his 1st ever break in 1952 as a song writer, real success eluded him till the early 1970s. He also worked with the postal department for some time to make ends meet during his early struggling days in Mumbai. Over the years, he collaborated with 132 film directors, music directors like Naushad, Shankar Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri, Jagjit Singh et al and singers, penning soft melodies, romantic numbers & emotional songs that touched the hearts of millions. Some of his best songs include “Main To Har Modh Par”, “Na Jane Kya Hua Jo Tune Chhu Liya”, “Ulfat Me Zamane Ki Har Rasm Ko Thukrao” & “Do Deewane Shaher Mein”. Tinaa Ghaai averred, “I lost my dad a few years ago and now I have lost my dad in law, “Sar Se Baap Ka Saaya Hee Uth Gaya”, in my case I was loved the most by my both the dads. I have recorded a song in a film which has lyrics by Naqsh ji & music by Bappi Lahiri which will be his last film. Rajan Lyallpuri averred, ”I feel suffocated as my father, my teacher, my preacher, my friend, my guide et al has departed”.

ASHLEY LOBO TO CHOREOGRAPH A FULL LENGTH BALLET OVERSEAS

Ashley Lobo who has choreographed songs for several Bollywood movies like DHOOM, JAB WE MET, GUZAARISH, LOVE AAJ KAL, TAMASHA, COCKTAIL, ROCKSTAR et al has been invited by the International professional dance company “Ballet Chemnitz” based in Germany to choreograph a full length story telling ballet. This is the 1st time ever that an Indian choreographer has been invited to choreograph a full length ballet overseas. Ashley will soon be flying to Germany for the same. Before this Ashley Lobo’s Navdhara India Dance Theatre was selected from over 200 applicants to perform at the 1st ever International Contemporary Dance Festival held in Shanghai in Aug, 2016. Ashley is really looking forward to work with “Ballet Chemnitz” and its indeed a special one for him as this is the first time ever that a full length Ballet will be choreographed overseas by an Indian choreographer. “By now the dancers are trained classical, dancing modern without point. Movie Review: Alif is a very interesting, meaningful and thought provoking film

Raza (Danish Hussein) is heartbroken as his Sister Zahra (Neelima Azim) has still not forgiven him for forcing her to be the 4th wife of a Pakistani person and sent off too Pakistan to escape the wrath of the Hindu – Muslim riots. Years later she returns on a 3 months visa. Raza’s son Ali (Master Saud Mansuri) is studying in a Madrasa (a Muslim religious school imparting the teachings of Quran). But Ali’s Aunt Zahra wants him to study in a convent school and become a doctor. Then begins Raza’s conflict between the orthodox seminary education & convent education including his fellow neighbours.

Director Zaigham Imam has made a very poignant film Alif, which deals with the importance of modern education. The narrator of the film Alif is veteran actress Jaya Bachchan. But the film sounds a bit outdated as today’s modern Muslim family’s leanings is more towards convent education along side seminary education, but that is not being orthodox as it is equally important. The film’s tagline “Ladna Nahin Padna hai” is apt. Credit should also go to Pawan Tiwari for making a good film like Alif in lieu with Zaigham Imam.

Performance wise Neelima Azim as Zahra, Danish Hussain as Raza and Master Saud Mansuri are brilliant. While the rest of the actors like Aditya Om, Bhavna Pani, Pawan Tiwari, Shimala Prasad, Gauri Shanker & Ishaan too are good and help in carrying the film’s narration forward.

No doubt Alif is a good film but its prospects at the Box office turnstiles are bleak but may pick up with proper word of mouth publicity and more aggressive promotions. All said and done Alif is more of a festival circuit film where it will garner more critical apprecian and awards galore.

Kaabil is an intensely emotional film with all the action & entertainment oriented commercial trappings intact

Actor – producer – director Rakesh Roshan needs no special introduction. Besides his “K” fixated titles is also very well – known both in Bollywood & outside Bollywood. So from his debut directorial venture Khudgarz till his latest offering Kaabil, Rakesh Roshan has traversed almost all the genres of filmmaking with multiple sucess till this date. No doubt he had his own share of up & downs, highs & lows and of course success & failure, but of course more directorial successes than failure. Need anything more be said on this account.

The scripted scenario of Kaabil hides the plot more than it reveals. Rohan (Hrithik Roshan) is a visually impaired man who works as a voice over artiste for a living. He meets Supriya (Yami Gautam), a visually challenged, but independent working woman, after being coaxed by a common well – wisher. Although both are initially reluctant to ever marry, they eventually start liking each other and get married. One night on their way back home after dining at a restaurant, they are interrupted by Amit Shellar (Rohit Roy), a local goon & younger brother of Madhavrao Shellar (Ronit Roy) – a well – known politician & his friend Wasim (Sahidur Rehman). Both being intoxicated behave inappropriately with the couple enraging Rohan and are involved in heated exchange of words. The next morning while Rohan is out for work, Amit & Wasim sneak into the house & gang rape Supriya. A mortified Rohan immediately calls up the police who advise him to get his wife medically examined in 24 hours to prove the assault. While Rohan & Supriya are on their way to the clinic, they are kidnapped by Shellar’s men and are held captive for 36 hours. After setting them free, they are criticised by the police & doctors for the delay in admitting Supriya. Heartbroken, they both return home. While tormented, Supriya attempts to try and live normally, but Rohan becomes silent & introspective, which breaks Supriya further. One morning, Rohan returns early from work to apologize to Supriya for not being as supportive as he should have, only to find her hanging down a fan. Later, when Rohan is brooding over losing Supriya, Madhavrao visits him and admits that his brother Amit assaulted Supriya not once but twice. He also threatens him and asks him to forget about what had happened. Rohan finds Supriya’s braille note which ascertains that the 2nd assault led to her eventual suicide. This sets off a change in Rohan’s persona. He visits the police station and implies that he will avenge his wife’s death. He formulates varied ideas and uses his voice modulating skills to fool Wasim to come to an isolated club, which was Amit & Wasim’s hang out place. When Wasim arrives, Rohan switches off the lights and gets added advantage of fighting in the dark. Rohan eventually hangs Wasim, leaving Amit’s handkerchief behind to misguide the Police. He then tricks Amit by dubbing Inspector Nalawde’s (Girish Kulkarni) voice and makes him come alone to a warehouse full of oil drums. Unlike Wasim, Amit takes off his shoes so that Rohan can’t guess his movements. But after the initial struggle Rohan knocks him down and ties him down in leaking oil to be burned alive. Madhavrao Shellar is now furious to find the real culprit. Sr. Police Officer Chaubey (Narendra Jha) who has doubts over Rohan gets him house arrested and offers Shellar to reveal the name with complete evidence in 24 hours. But before that Rohan escapes with the help of his friend Zafar (Suresh Menon) and later challenges Shellar to meet him at the top of an under construction building. Shellar tries to shoot him, but Rohan very cleverly kills him by throwing him down the building. The police with no evidence against Rohan – a visually impaired man – stand helpless. This time around Rakesh Roshan is not handling the directorial helm of affairs, instead Sanjay Gupta has taken over the directorial reigns of Kaabil and although he is known more for western influences in his films, but in Kaabil, he has led emphasis heavily on emotions. Although the plot may appear conventional, Gupta & writer Vijay Kumar Mishra have totally avoided the clichés and standard techniques. In fact Kaabil never fails to involve & entertain the audiences. And some of the more deserving
credits & plaudits also goes to behind the scenes team comprising of Rajesh Roshan (music composer) Ahmed Khan (choreographer) Salim – Sulaiman (Background scorer), Sudeep Chatterjee & Ayananka Bose (cinematographer), Shyam Kaushal (action master) & Akiv Ali (editor).

Performance wise Hrithik Roshan literally lives up to his role of a visually impaired man. He proves his histrionically oriented excellent prowess brilliantly. In fact Duggu as he is more popularly known has delivered his career best performance. Yami Gautam has also delivered a par excellence act as a visually impaired woman and than as a rape victim who hangs herself to death. And than both Ronit Roy & Rohit Roy, brothers in real life, are outstanding as villainous nay antagonists. While Narendra Jha as inspector Chaubey is 1st rate. Girish Kulkarni is perfect. Suresh Menon indeed springs a pleasant surprise. Sahidur Rahman deserves a special mention. Akhilendra Mishra is good. And last but not the least Urvashi Rautela catches your sparkles in an item number.

Movie Review: Raees is really, a not to be missed, entertaining film

Director Rahul Dholakia’s body of work till this date borders more on realism, and ultimately proves that he is not in the least bit a hardcore commercial filmmaker. But since Raees is the 1st big ticket cinema for Rahul he emerges victorious to a certain extent by combining both the elements namely realism as well as commercialism.

The scripted scenario of Raees is set in the 1980’s period. Raees (Shah Rukh Khan) is trying to beat the system and succeed on his terms. His natural flair for entrepreneur ship and never – say – die determination while achieving his goals makes him both loved & feared. Enters Jaideep (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), a cop, who vows to eliminate crime…….and Raees’ empire. In fact Raees is the fictitious story of a man named Raees, set in early 1980’s to 1990’s Gujarat, India. The film explores how Raees’ relationships & meteoric rise helped him build an entire empire from scratch, to make him the single most powerful man in the state. Less of a gangster but more of an impresario, Raees gains popularity, a cult following and most importantly the public’s trust by demonstrating entrepreneurial flair, unfettered determination to achieving his goals & ironically a heart of gold. His layered character traits encapsulate an inimitable blend of personas, making him revered, loved & feared. Always thinking ahead of the curve and using revolutionary ideas of management which were unheard of during his time, but are now doctrines for students, Raees eliminates every opposition that comes his way. However, his downfall takes place while crossing paths with the no – nonsense police officer Majumdar, whose sole reason for existence is the elimination of crime. What ensues next is a tumultuous battle between the 2, which forms a key defining element of the film’s narrative.

Director Rahul Dholakia’s Raees is indeed based on the story inspired by true events & on a real – life character, namely a gangster named Abdul Latif. That apart Rahul Dholakia depicts the power play and the cat & mouse chase between Raees & the honest cop Jaideep. A standing ovation goes to Rahul Dholakia for coming out of his comfort zone as recreating the bygone era is a Herculean task and the toughest part was to involve the present – day audience that’s clueless about the characters and ambiance of that era. And for these a left handed complement once again goes director Rahul Dholakia in tandem with his behind the scenes team comprising of Dholakia and his team of writers which included Harit Mehta, Ashish Vashi & Niraj Shukla, Ram Sampath (music composer in lieu with the background score), K. U. Mohanan (cinematographer) & Deepa Bhatia (editor).

Performance wise it is certainly an SRK film all the way and what a performance he has delivered? Its totally unbelievable and even too good to be true. In fact SRK is the scene stealer as well as the show stealer. Nawazuddin Siddiqui matches SRK step by step and delivers a mind blowing performance. Both, SRK & Nawazuddin’s performances grab your eyeballs and keeps you riveted to the screen. On the other hand Mahira Khan looks gorgeous and handles her part with confidence. But obviously one can’t say to her “Welcome to Bollywood”. Next in line bravura act comes from Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub who really sinks his teeth into a solid role and indeed leaves a lasting impression. Wheras Atul Kulkarni makes his presence felt with a committed act. And last but not the least the other actors like Sheeba Chaddha, Narendra Jha, Jaideep Ahlawat, Utkarsh Mazumdar, Pramod Pathak & Uday Tikekar are picture perfect in their respective role including Sunny Leone who sizzles in the “Laila Main Laila” number. While a special mention must also be made of the 2 child artistes namely Master Shubham Chintamani, Master Shubham Tukaram, who are indeed a suprise packect.

Tail Piece: Raees is tipped to be a sure shot hit. As far as the Box Office turnstiles is concerned, there’s no stopping Raees, an outright winner. Just don’t miss it.
