The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) semester 2 result for the ISC Class 12th exams was declared on Sunday, with 18 candidates sharing the top rank with a score of 99.75 per cent.

The CISCE has announced a merit list after two years as results were declared on the basis of an alternative assessment scheme after exams could not be conducted due to the pandemic.

The pass percentage for girls (99.52) is marginally higher than that of boys (99.26), officials said, adding the overall pass percentage was 99.38.

For the first time in the history of the board, the CISCE conducted two examinations in a single examination year.

While semester one examinations were held in November-December, 2021, the second-semester exams were conducted in April-May, 2022, for both Class 10 and Class 12. The northern region has the best pass percentage (99.43 per cent), followed by the eastern region with 99.18 per cent pass percentage.

A total of 1,228 schools had presented candidates for the exam.

Explaining the result computation formula, board secretary Gerry Arathoon said the first semester marks of each subject have been halved with the exception of subjects like geometrical, mechanical drawing and art.

“These marks have then been added to the second semester and practical/project marks to arrive at final marks in each subject,” he added.

A total of 1,228 schools had presented candidates for the CISCE Class 12 examination and a total of 96,940 candidates, including 52.76 per cent boys and 47.24 per cent girls, appeared for the exams.

The candidates included 12 visually-challenged students, of which six have scored above 90 per cent.

Similarly, of 180 candidates with learning difficulties, 18 have scored above 90 per cent in the exams.

The Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination was conducted in 49 written subjects, of which 12 were Indian languages, five foreign languages and two classical languages.

The northern region has the best pass percentage (99.43 per cent), followed by the eastern region with a pass percentage of 99.18 per cent.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to direct the CBSE and the CISCE to provide option of hybrid mode, instead of the offline mode only, for the class 10 and 12 board examinations, saying it would not be appropriate to disturb the process at this stage.

The apex court noted that term one board exams of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have already commenced from November 16 while semester one of board examination of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) are to commence from November 22

A bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and CT Ravikumar was informed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who was representing the CBSE, that all precautions have been taken for conducting the board exams in offline mode and the examination centres have been increased from 6,500 to 15,000.

The bench said that it “hopes and trusts” that authorities will take all precautions and measures to ensure that no one is exposed to anything untoward in the examination process.

The top court was hearing a plea, filed by six students who would be appearing in the board examinations, seeking directions to the CBSE and the CISCE to issue a revised circular for conducting the ensuing class 10 and 12 board exams in hybrid mode instead of offline mode only amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

New Delhi (PTI): A total of 44 candidates have scored 100 percentile in the engineering entrance exam JEE-Main this year while 18 candidates have shared the top rank, Ministry of Education (MoE) officials said on Tuesday midnight.

The first rank holders included Gaurab Das (Karnataka), Vaibhav Vishal (Bihar), Duggineni Venkata Paneesh (Andhra Pradesh), Siddhant Mukherjee, Anshul Verma and Mridul Agarwal (Rajasthan), Ruchir Bansal and Kavya Chopra (Delhi), Amaiya Singhal and Pal Agarwal (Uttar Pradesh), , Komma Sharanya and Joysula Venkata Aditya (Telangana), Pasala Veera Siva, Karnam Lokesh and Kanchanapalli Rahul Naidu, (Andhra Pradesh), Pulkit Goyal (Punjab) and Guramrit Singh (Chandigarh).

Starting this year, Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)-Main was conducted four times a year to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores. The first phase was held in February and the second in March.

The next phases were scheduled for April and May but those were postponed in view of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that raged through the country affecting lakhs.

The third edition was held from July 20-25 while the fourth edition was conducted from August 26 to September 2.

The ranks of the candidates have been released taking into consideration the best of the four NTA scores in accordance with the policy already made.

The examination was conducted in 13 languages — English, Hindi, Gujarati , Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will announce results for class 12 on Friday, according to officials.

The board exams were cancelled this year in view of the aggressive second wave of COVID-19, and the result will be announced on basis of an alternate assessment policy by the board.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) put up the posters under the campaign at the Delhi University on Tuesday and will also put them up at other varsities.

NEW DELHI: The Congress-affiliated NSUI on Tuesday initiated a campaign ”Thank You For What?” in response to the UGC’s directive of asking universities to put up posters thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for starting free vaccination for people aged 18 and above.

NSUI national president Neeraj Kundan appealed to the students to counter Prime Minister’s posters by raising questions.

“Should we thank the PM for not declaring any relief packages for the students? Should we thank the PM for not making any vaccination policy for the students? Should we thank the PM for not giving any relaxation in the fees and loan for the students ? Should we thank the PM for ignoring the voices of the unemployed? Should we thank the PM for being the reason to ruin the academic year of the students?” he said.

The NSUI plans to reply to these PM posters on the university campuses by initiating the campaign of ”Thank You for What” posters, he added.

Kundan said issues concerning the students should be addressed and money should be spent for their welfare.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday said it would hear on May 31 a plea seeking directions to cancel Class 12 examinations in the wake of the surge in COVID-19 cases across the country. The matter came up for hearing before a bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari.

At the outset, the bench asked petitioner Mamta Sharma whether she has served the copy of the plea to the counsel representing the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). When the petitioner said that she will serve the copy of the petition to the parties, the bench observed, “You do it. We will have it on Monday (May 31).”

“We permit the counsel for the petitioner to serve advance copy of the petition to respondents namely the central agency, counsel for the CBSE and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination,” the bench said, adding, “List on Monday (May 31)”.

The petition has arrayed the Centre, the CBSE and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination as respondents in the matter. During the hearing conducted through video-conferencing, Justice Maheshwari observed that the CBSE is likely to take a call on this issue on June 1.

The counsel representing the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination told the bench that since the apex court is hearing the matter, the high courts should not deal with it. “Nothing will happen till Monday,” the bench said.

When the petitioner told the bench that the top court can take suo motu cognisance on the issue, the bench said, “Be optimistic. May be by Monday some resolution will be there. Let us have it on Monday.”

The petition has sought directions to the Centre, the CBSE and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination to cancel the Class 12 examinations and devise an “objective methodology” to declare the result within a specific timeframe.

The plea has contended that due to the unprecedented health emergency and surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, it is not possible to conduct the examination and any further delay would cause irreparable loss to the future of students.

The CBSE had earlier said it has not taken any decision yet on Class 12 board examination even as a section of students and parents have been demanding cancellation of exams in view of the pandemic situation.

The board had on April 14 announced cancellation of Class 10 exams and postponement of Class 12 exams in view of the surge in coronavirus cases.

NEW DELHI: The ICSE class 10 board exams have been cancelled in view of the worsening COVID-19 situation and the option for students to appear later has been withdrawn, board secretary Gerry Arathoon said on Tuesday.

The Council for The Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) had announced that class 10 students will get an option to either write the exams later or get evaluated on the basis of an alternative criteria.

“Given the present worsening situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the CICSE has decided to cancel the class 10 examination.

The option for students announced earlier, stands withdrawn.

The safety and wellbeing of our students and teaching faculty is of topmost priority and paramount importance,” said Arathoon, Secretary and Chief Executive of the CISCE.

“We are committed to devise a fair and unbiased criterion for declaring class 10 results. The criterion as well as the date of declaration fo results will be announced later,” he said.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, Education Secretary, and other important officials on Wednesday at 12 noon to discuss the issue of CBSE board exams, said sources.

The final decision on the CBSE Board exams can be expected today. Several students, academicians, and politicians have demanded the cancellation of board exams amid growing COVID-19 numbers.

On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had urged the Centre to cancel the CBSE board examinations amid a rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the national capital.
