Youngster’s parents get Rs 5 lakh from CM relief fund for donation of brain dead son’s organs

March 22, 2023 by Nasheman

Ullal: Legislator U T Khader has ensured that the parents of a teenager who donated his organs after his death in an accident six months ago received a compensation of Rs 5 lakh from the chief minister’s relief fund.

Yashraj (16), a pre-university student, had fallen from a bus on September 7, 2022, while traveling from Ullal to Mangaluru. He was seriously injured in the head and admitted to a private hospital.

He was declared brain dead by September 13, after which, his parents, Thyagaraj and Mamatha Karkera, residents of Baiderepalu in Mastikatte, Ullal, donated his organs.

Khader, who met and offered his condolences to Thyagaraj and Mamatha, had assured that they would receive compensation from the chief minister’s relief fund for their noble deed. He is also learned to have submitted an application with necessary records through his secretary, for the couple to be recompensed.

The parents of Yashraj, who received Rs 5 lakh from the relief fund, expressed gratitude to Khader for his concern and help.

The legislator said, “Yashraj’s parents kept their cool in spite of such a loss and donated his organs, which helped at least six people. I spoke to the chief minister about the matter and am happy that Yashraj’s parents received the compensation.”

He added, “Organ donation is a noble deed. Awareness on the need for such donation should be increased in society.”

Not a setback to BJP, says Bommai after seer’s call to stop raking up issue of Uri, Nanje Gowda

March 22, 2023 by Nasheman

Not a setback to BJP, says Bommai after seer's call to stop raking up issue of Uri, Nanje Gowda
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai

Hubballi (KTK): Ruling out any “setback” to the ruling BJP over the raging controversy on the history of Tipu Sultan’s killing and the claimed role of Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda in it, following a prominent seer’s call to put an end to it, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said there would be victory on the day the truth came out after proper research.

A section of people in the old Mysuru belt and some ruling BJP leaders have claimed that erstwhile Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan did not die fighting the British, but was killed by two alleged Vokkaliga chieftains Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda. The claim has been contested by prominent historians.

“There is no question of any setback. When research happens and the day truth comes out, will get victory,” Bommai said in response to a question on whether the controversy would adversely impact the party.

In a veiled attack against opposition parties, especially the Congress, Bommai responding to another question said, “I’m not speaking about Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda alone. Several historical truths have been suppressed and history has been distorted across the country after independence, including Karnataka. It is known to everyone as to who played an important role in it then. If the truth is told now, they are unable to digest it.”

While, Congress and JD(S) leaders have maintained that Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda did not even exist, and that they might just be fictional characters, the BJP, which is trying to make inroads into the Vokkaliga dominated ‘Old Mysuru’ region ahead of the upcoming Assembly election in the state, seems to be using the duo as their latest mascots.

BJP is using them to target Tipu Sultan, and to accuse the Congress and JD(S) of indulging in appeasement politics by celebrating the Muslim ruler.

Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji, the chief pontiff of influential the Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math, on Monday cited the lack of historical evidence to the existence of the two Gowdas and called for putting an end to the issue.

The seer of the Math, which is highly regarded by Vokkaligas, has called for gathering of information, edicts and historical records about the duo, if any, before arriving at any decision.

On Monday, he had also summoned Horticulture Minister Munirathna, a film producer-turned-politician, whose studio planned to make a movie by registering the title, ‘Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda’, and directed him not to go ahead with the project. Munirathna too has agreed to abide by the Seer’s directive.

The names of Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda came to the fore after the release of a play Tippuvina Nija Kanasugalu’ (The True Dreams of Tipu) last year by Rangayana director Addanda Cariappa, though there has been a debate on the issue in the past.

Some BJP leaders claim that there is historical evidence regarding the duo, as their names appear in plays and ballads, and that they fought Tipu to safeguard the family of Mysuru Maharajas and to protect the state.

March 13, 2023 by Nasheman

BJP leaders present a replica of the famous Kalaghatgi cradle to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Dharwad on Sunday | D Hemanth

DHARWAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Karnataka is the engine of high-tech India which needs the power of a double-engine government. Speaking after the inauguration of the campus of IIT-Dharwad and some other development works, and laying the foundation stone for others including Hubballi branch of Jayadeva Cardiovascular Science and Research Institute on Sunday, Modi said that Karnataka has given a tech-future identity to India, and it was time to take it forward.

Everybody demands better infrastructure and today, he said, adding that in “New India”, everyone is benefitting from modern infrastructures. Along with economic infrastructure through PM Gatishakti, Modi said that social infrastructure also been improved by building toilets, providing LPG connections,  better and cheap healthcare facilities, offering power connection, and building affordable houses to poor and good educational institutions for youths.

In poll-bound Karnataka, PM Modi rips into Congress for ‘insulting’ party chief Mallikarjun Kharge

In poll-bound Karnataka, PM Modi rips into Congress for 'insulting' party chief Mallikarjun Kharge
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses during an event for the release of the 13th instalment of funds under the PM-KISAN scheme

Belagavi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday accused the Congress of disrespecting Karnataka, while alleging that its President Mallikarjun Kharge, who hails from the state, was insulted by the party during its plenary session in Chhattisgarh.

He said Kharge was insulted and disrespected by the party, in favour of a “family”, apparently indicating the Nehru-Gandhi family, despite the Congress chief’s seniority and age.

“I want to remind you how Congress hates Karnataka. Insulting Karnataka’s leaders is part of Congress’ old culture. From whomever Congress’ family feels troubled, disrespecting them begins in that party. History stands witness to the insult meted out to the leaders such as S Nijalingappa and Veerendra Patil before the family. Everyone in Karnataka knows it,” Modi said.

Addressing a massive gathering here, he said now once again, one more leader from Karnataka has been insulted by loyalists of the family.

“I have great respect for Mallikarjun Kharge, a son of this land, who has about 50 years of parliamentary or legislature experience. He has tried to do whatever he could in the service of people. But I was sad looking at how Kharge, who is the President of the party and a senior in age, was treated during the Congress’ session in Chhattisgarh,” the Prime Minister said.

“The weather was hot, everyone standing there feeling the heat was natural, but in that heat the good fortune of umbrella’s shade was not there for Kharge who is Congress chief and senior in age. The umbrella’s shade was for someone standing next to him. This shows Kharge is Congress President just for the sake of it, and looking at the way he is treated, everyone can see and understand, as to whose hands the remote control is in,” he further said.

The Prime Minister was speaking after releasing the 13th instalment of funds worth over Rs 16,000 crore under the PM-KISAN scheme for beneficiaries across the country and laying the foundation stone and dedicating to the nation multiple development projects worth more than Rs 2,700 crore here.

Noting that several political parties in the country are in the clutches of dynastic politics, Modi said: “We have to free the country from these clutches. People of Karnataka should be cautious about parties like Congress.”

He claimed that “Congress people” are so disappointed that they feel that until Modi is alive, they cannot do anything.

“So all of them are saying and raising slogans ‘Marja Modi, Marja Modi’ (Modi die, Modi die), some people are even busy digging ‘kabr’ (grave). They are saying ‘Modi teri kabr khudegi’ (Modi your grave will be dug)…but the country is saying ‘Modi tera kamal khilega’ (Modi your lotus will bloom).”

Assembly elections are due in Karnataka by May.

Amit Shah should look at Yediyurappa before harping on dynastic politics: Kumaraswamy

February 25, 2023 by Nasheman

Shivamogga (K’taka): Former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for making sarcastic remarks on dynastic politics in JD(S).

The JD(S) second-in-command pointed out at the dynastic politics prevailing in the Karnataka unit of BJP where former chief minister B S Yediyurappa and his sons are holding key positions in the saffron party.

During an interactive session in Bengaluru on Thursday, Shah had said the JD(S) is a dynastic party.

“You can’t find anyone in their family who doesn’t contest polls. Everyone wants to contest polls and lead Karnataka. I don’t understand as to who runs the house,” Shah had quipped.

“We should felicitate Amit Shah for his concern for our house as to who will run our household matters. He should have asked the same to Yediyurappa once… Probably, he (Yediyurappa) would have answered,” Kumaraswamy told reporters at Theerthahalli in Shivamogga district.

Kumaraswamy charged that Shah lectured others keeping Yediyurappa beside him.

“Yediyurappa has two sons and both are in politics. Then, who in his family is taking care of household works?” the JD(S) leader wondered.

Kumaraswamy also took objection over Shah’s comment that every vote to the JD(S) would eventually go to the Congress.

Assembly polls in the state are due by May.

Muslims have understood importance of education, their progress is laudable: Dr. Abdulla Kunhi

Mangaluru: Yenepoya Deemed to be University Chancellor Dr. Y Abdulla Kunhi has said that, moving from having no inclination for education, the Muslim community has surpassed all expectation in its work to spread awareness on the importance of education.

Addressing the educational conference organized by the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts Muslim Educational Institutions Federation at the Town Hall in the city on Monday, Dr. Kunhi said, “It is obvious that times have changed. Muslims have understood the importance of education. As a result, we can find Muslims in every prominent field of society, as doctors, advocates and judges, among others.”

The chancellor added, “It is, nevertheless, necessary to identify children who are deprived of education since their families are either still uninformed about the educational facilities available or are facing financial problems. We need to work at ensuring that such children too get access to education.”
