Nasheman

Nasheman Weekly, the country’s largest selling Urdu weekly today completes 54 years of glorious publication, establishing a new benchmark in Urdu journalism.

Founded in 1962 by the late Usman Asad, Nasheman currently has a circulation of over 1.20 lac; a feat hardly matched by any other Urdu publication in India.

Nasheman, an Urdu word for ‘nest’, garnered a legendary status among our readers from the very onset. With popular weekly columns like ‘Thapdakhen’ (slaps or smacks), the paper depicts the prevalent social and political conditions of the times in the most starkest terms. Such is Nasheman’s popularity, that it is bought by one, sold to another for double the price, and then sold again to triple the price.

The paper is circulated not only in India but also abroad, copies of it are shipped to UAE, Saudi Arabia and many other countries.

Under the founder’s son, Rizwan Asad’s current editorship, we have remained true to our essence. We still are the staunchest critique of socio-political inequities, we still are the largest selling Urdu weekly in the country.

The year 2014, also saw Nasheman venture into the world of online journalism, with the daily online English edition, which explores news and analysis from an independent, alternative perspective. We would be also starting a print edition in English in the coming months.

Prophet Mohammed (PBUH): The Pinnacle of Humanity, An inter-religious Conference

January 23, 2016 by Nasheman

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind

Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), is the greatest man ever to walk on the face of the earth. His achievements and contributions to humanity are immense and unparalleled. Born 1490 years ago in an ignorant and uncivilized society in Arabia, he brought about a comprehensive and nearly bloodless revolution in a short period of 23 years which continues to expand even to this day, inspiring and guiding large section of humanity across the globe.  He is the final messenger of Allah, truly universal in his address and leadership.  He is the perfect example, Pinnacle of humanity and benefactor of mankind.  The book revealed on him, the Holy Quran, remains in its original form and his life and teachings have been preserved in authentic and exquisite detail.  Quran happens to be the most widely read book today and the Prophet the most written about personality.  If ever the world could unite on humanitarian principles it is only possible under the noble leadership of this great Prophet.

This unrivalled  position of the Prophet of Islam has been the pride of his followers but envy of his enemies.  Hence the scorn, insults and accusations heaped upon him all along history.  This has become more frequent and heinous in the recent years, evoking widespread anger and condemnation.

While protests and demonstrations are an immediate and legitimate reaction, what is more important is to convey and communicate to the people at large both in word and deed the true and humanitarian teachings of the Prophet. The cobweb of misunderstandings needs to be cleared  and the solution and salvation that Islam can offer to the problem riddled and ailing humanity today brought forth clearly.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Bangalore has launched a 21 day campaign to educate fellow citizens of all faiths, about the true life and teachings of the Holy Prophet from 10 th to 30th Jan. 2016.

About 15000 folders and 6000 small books on Prophet in different languages will be distributed personally in door to door meetings.  Small gatherings will also be organized for the same all over the City. Finally a large inter religious conference will be held on the topic ‘‘Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) – Pinnacle of Humanity’’ at Ambedkar Bhavan, Millers Road, Bangalore on Saturday, 30th Jan. 2016 at 7-00PM.  This will be addressed by a galaxy of luminaries and religious heads.  Moulana Syed Jalaluddin Umri, All India President, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, will deliver the keynote address.  Sri Sri Shivanubhava Shivarudra Swamiji of Belimath, Mr. Venkatachaliah, Former Chief Justice of India, Rev.Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore, Giani Baldev Singh, Head Priest Gurudwara, Ulsoor, renowned litterateur Hampa Nagarajaiah and  Mr. Mohammed Kunhi, manager Shanthi Prakashana will also address.

SC declines PIL on uniform civil code

December 7, 2015 by Nasheman

Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a public interest petition seeking direction to parliament to enact a uniform civil code to put an end to alleged discrimination being faced by Muslim women.

An apex court bench headed by Chief Justice T.S. Thakur said that it is for parliament to take a call on the issue and it was not in the realm of the apex court to issue a direction on this.

Chief Justice Thakur, in a disapproving note, told senior counsel Gopal Subramaniam that if such petitions were filed without regard to the law, the court will come down very heavily.

The court asked why none of those who are being allegedly discriminated against have come forward for redressal.

Advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay had filed the PIL.

Muslims donate money to bail out 15 Hindu convicts languishing in jail

November 27, 2015 by Nasheman

indian-jails

Bareilly: “Kindness is a mark of faith, and whoever is not kind has no faith,” said Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). As the controversy rages over “intolerance” in the country, here is a group of Muslim men who have quietly done for 15 Hindu men what even their own kin could not.

The Muslim men pooled in money to be able to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 to secure the release of the Hindu prisoners languishing for want of money in the district jail. They had been lodged in jail on charges of petty crime like ticketless travel. Unable to cough up the fine to make reparation for their misdeeds, the men were serving an additional sentence. Once the money was paid, the 15 men walked out free birds.

Outside the jail, the Muslims who paid for their release welcomed them into freedom with a warm embrace. As the 15 men stepped out of jail on Wednesday evening, there were smiles and tears all around.

One of the inmates, Nand Kishore, had served out the period of his sentence for ticketless travel, but was not released as he failed to pay a Rs1,000-fine. But as he left the jail premises and strode towards home, Haji Yasin Qureshi and his friends, all Muslims, hugged him and walked along.

Qureshi shrugged off the effusive gratitude that the men showed him and his friends, and said it is just the Almighty who needs to be thanked. He told the 15 men that they should swear never to repeat their mistakes.

The Muslim men had also made arrangements for Nand Kishore’s travel back to his native village. He was given a small sum as “pocket money” too. His eyes moist, Kishore bid the Muslim youth adieu as jail staffers watched, awe-struck.

Among the others to taste freedom were Ajay Kumar, Kishan Sagar, Pappu and Tilak. All of them were warmly embraced as they emerged from the jail, all deeply moved by the gesture of their benefactors who had come to their aid in a time of crisis.

Qureshi, who led the group that collected funds for the release of the men, said, “When we learnt of their plight from jail authorities, we decided that we should do what we could. We are never guided by the feeling that our efforts should be directed only towards members of our own community. We believe that if we help in releasing a man from captivity, Allah will bless us. Moreover, what better occasion than a time when there is all this talk about who should live in this country and who should leave.”

Haji Mohd Anees, a businessman, who too had contributed to the release of the men, said, “Sahib yeh to hamara watan hai aur Hindu hamare bhai hain. Hum yahin paida huwey hai aur yahin khaak mein milengey” (This is our country, Hindus are our brothers. We were born here, we will be buried here and mix with the soil here.)

BR Maurya, superintendent of the Bareilly district jail, said, “The 15 inmates were charged with petty crimes. Some were arrested on apprehension of breach of peace. They were serving out sentences ranging from 6 months to 10 years. The majority of them had served out the full sentence, but could not pay the fine imposed on them by the court.”

Muslims should declare Jihad against terrorism: Maulana Mahmood Madani

November 17, 2015 by Nasheman

Maulana Mahmood Madani

New Delhi: The Muslims should declare a jihad (holy war) against terrorism as radicals and zealots have unleashed a reign of terror that challenges the basic tenets of Islam, which propagates and promotes peace and harmony, an Islamic scholar said on Tuesday.

“Waging a jihad is a positive act intended to root out evils from society. Killing of innocents can never be accepted as an act of jihad,” Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind leader Maulana Mahmood Madani said at a press conference at the Constitution Club here. It is the responsibility of Islamic nations to wage war against terrorists who are misusing the name of Islam, the Islamic scholar said.

“There is a need to check groups spreading hatred. Intolerance should be discouraged at all costs,” he said.Quoting teachings of Prophet Mohammed, he said that “saving one human being is like saving humanity”.Madani said countrywide protests would be held on November 18 to denounce terrorism. Protest rallies would be held in Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and over 65 other cities in which leaders of various Muslim groups and organisations were expected to participate.

The Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind leader said it is a matter of great concern that terrorists are commiting brutal killings in the name of Islam.”They claim they represent the real face of Islam. So, it is incumbent upon Muslims, scholars and clerics to preach and propagate the real message of Islam and defeat the designs of fanatics who are out to malign Islam,” he said.

Madani said no one could deny that terrorist attacks have caused maximum harm to the Muslims. He said his organisation has held a series of conference and rallies against terrorism since 2007.
