Ravindra Jadeja joins BJP following retirement from T20 Internationals

September 6, 2024 by Nasheman

New Delhi: Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, who recently retired from T20 internationals after India’s T20 World Cup victory, has now entered the political arena by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The announcement was made by his wife, Rivaba Jadeja, who is currently a BJP MLA from Gujarat.

Rivaba Jadeja took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Thursday to share the news. In her post, she included photos of both her and Ravindra Jadeja’s BJP membership cards. The post was linked to the BJP’s ongoing membership drive, known as ‘Sadasyata Abhiyan’, which began on September 2. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also renewed his membership on the first day of the drive.

Rivaba, who joined the BJP in 2019, successfully contested the Gujarat Assembly elections from the Jamnagar North constituency in 2022. Ravindra Jadeja actively campaigned for his wife during the elections, helping her secure a victory with a margin of over 50,000 votes.

At the time of the election, there was a split in political loyalties within Jadeja’s family, as his father and sister campaigned for the Congress party. However, Rivaba Jadeja had dismissed any concerns over ideological differences between her and her cricketer husband, stating, “He and I are not two people, we are one. Our thinking is aligned, and we share the same ideology. There is no confusion in our family when it comes to our political beliefs.”

Veteran BJP leaders Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi also renewed their memberships on Thursday as part of the ongoing campaign.

The first accused is a woman and Pauly is the sixth accused, the officer said.

Russian missile strike kills 41 people and wounds 180 in Ukraine’s Poltava city

September 4, 2024 by Nasheman

Kyiv: Two Russian ballistic missiles struck an educational facility and nearby hospital in a central-eastern region of Ukraine, killing at least 41 people and wounding 180 others, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday.

The strike occurred in the city of Poltava, the capital of the region of the same name, officials said. Poltava is located about 110 kilometres (70 miles) from the border with Russia and about 350 kilometres (200 miles) southeast of Kyiv.

The strike appeared to be one of the deadliest carried out by Russian forces since the war began more than 900 days ago on February 24, 2022.

“One of the buildings of the Institute of Communications was partially destroyed. People found themselves under the rubble. Many were saved,” Zelenskyy said in a video posted on his Telegram channel.

“All necessary services are involved in the rescue operation,” he added. He said he had ordered “a full and prompt investigation” into what happened. Zelenskyy didn’t provide any further details.

The missiles hit shortly after the air raid alert sounded, when many people were on their way to a bomb shelter, Ukraine’s Defence Ministry said, describing the strike as “barbaric.”

Rescue crews and medics saved 25 people, 11 of them dug out from the rubble, a Defence Ministry statement said.

Infosys issues offer letters to 1,000 engineering graduates after two-year delay

September 4, 2024 by Nasheman

Bengaluru: Infosys has finally released offer letters to 1,000 engineering graduates, ending a prolonged wait of over two years, according to the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES). This development comes nearly a week after Infosys CEO Sahil Parekh assured that the company would honor offers made to freshers and follow through with their joining process.

The IT giant issued the offer letters via email, with a scheduled joining date of October 7, 2024.These roles, designated for System Engineers, were initially offered to candidates in 2022. The candidates were required to complete two pre-training sessions in 2024, with the most recent session held on August 19. Despite fulfilling these requirements, the candidates faced delays in their onboarding process.

NITES, an IT and ITES employees’ union, recently lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment against Infosys, alleging that the company had delayed the onboarding of 2,000 engineering graduates for System Engineer (SE) and Digital SE roles, with annual packages ranging from Rs 3.2 lakh to Rs 3.7 lakh.

The offer letter states, “Your scheduled date of joining the employment of the company will be October 7, 2024. Your location for employment is Mysore, India.” The letter also includes a clause that requires new recruits to pay Infosys a specified amount as ‘damages’ if they leave before completing their probation period.

The letter further explains, “You recognize and accept that at the time of appointment as systems engineer trainee, except exposure to academic knowledge, you have received no formal, effective, technical or practical training to independently function as a systems engineer trainee who is commercially viable to the company… You recognize and accept that the company would suffer substantial financial loss, inconvenience, loss of resources, man hours, etc., in the event you fail to complete the training and/or leave the company during the probation period.”

Two arrested for inflammatory banner against Muslims

September 4, 2024 by Nasheman

Karkala: Karkala police have arrested two individuals for putting up a defamatory banner against Muslims at Murathangady near Sanoor on Tuesday.

The accused are identified as Satish Devadiga, a local who had put up the banner, and Pushpalatha, the owner of ‘Amulya Graphics’ at Market Road, Karkala where the banner was printed. Karkala police who investigated the matter arrested the accused and presented them before the Karkala court. Releasing the printing press owner Pushpalatha on conditional bail, the court handed over Sathish to judicial custody.

The controversial banner had appeared at Kamalaksha Nagara near Murathangady on Monday. It used abusive language against the local Muslim community and warned them not to ‘lay hands on Hindu girls’. Accused Satish had printed his name and photo in the banner, calling himself ‘one of the freedom fighter’. Locals say that the accused is a 50-year old daily wager who was suffering from mental illness from last 5-6 years.

Accused Sathish was currently residing with his younger brothers, as his wife and children had abandoned him. Few residents alleged that as he was mentally unstable, certain anti-social elements could have used his name to publish the banner so as to cause unrest in the society. Kamalaksha Nagara is a place of communal harmony and such attempts to instigate communal discord must be nipped in the bud, the locals demanded.

Mangaluru Police issue guidelines for Ganesha Chaturthi Eid Milad celebrations

September 4, 2024 by Nasheman

Mangaluru: As the city prepares for the upcoming Ganesha Chaturthi and Eid Milad festivals, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal has urged residents to celebrate the events peacefully and in strict adherence to the issued guidelines. Ganesha Chaturthi will be celebrated from September 6 to 17, with idols being installed at 165 locations within the Mangaluru police commissionerate limits. Eid Milad will be observed on September 15 and 16.

The celebrations will involve processions across areas classified as hypersensitive, sensitive, and normal, with 22 hypersensitive zones, 64 sensitive zones, and 79 normal zones identified within the city.

A peace meeting was convened on Monday, during which Commissioner Agrawal emphasized that organizers must obtain necessary permissions from various authorities, including Mescom, fire and emergency services, local bodies, and landowners where the idols are to be installed.

Organizers have been instructed to construct pandals with precautions against wind, rain, and fire hazards. Fire-fighting equipment such as sand, water buckets, and fire extinguishers must be readily available. The commissioner also advised against placing inflammable materials near lamps inside the Ganesha mantapas.

Organizers are required to provide local police with details of the main guests, including their contact information. Permissions from local bodies are mandatory for displaying flexes and banners, which must not contain any provocative content. Furthermore, all tableaux and dance performances should be conducted in a manner that respects all religious sentiments.

The use of firecrackers has been prohibited near hospitals and densely populated areas after 10 PM.

For idol immersion processions, permission from the police is required, and organizers must follow designated routes. The police have directed that no provocative slogans be used during the processions, and that vehicles used for tableaux must have valid fitness certificates and insurance. Volunteers participating in the processions are to wear matching uniforms and ensure that no vehicles are parked along the procession routes. Additionally, permission is required for the use of sound systems, which must adhere to the prescribed time limits. The use of DJs has been strictly prohibited.

Commissioner Agrawal stated that these measures are essential to ensure a harmonious celebration, and religious leaders have been briefed on the guidelines to promote communal harmony.

In the Dakshina Kannada district, Ganesha idols will be installed at 221 locations, with eight sites in hypersensitive areas, 53 in sensitive areas, and 160 in normal areas.
