New Delhi, March 20 (Nasheman News) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday attacked the Congress for its “dynastic politics” and said its biggest casualty are the institutions.

Addressing voters in his blog post, Modi urged them to remember the Congress’ past when they vote — “how one family’s desire for power cost the nation greatly”.

“From the press to Parliament. From soldiers to free speech. From the constitution to the courts. Institutional insult is the Congress’s way.

“Everyone is wrong, only the Congress is correct. As you go to vote- remember the past and how one family’s desire for power cost the nation …,” Modi said.

“If they (Congress) could do it then, they can surely do it now. Eternal vigilance remains the price of liberty,” he added.

He said India has seen how rise of dynastic politics has forced institutions to take a severe beating.

To prove his point, the Prime Minister said one need not go beyond the party to understand it. He pointed at the Congress’ internal democracy and said if a leader dares to dream to head that party, he or she is shunted out of the Congress.

“Political parties are vibrant bodies that manifest diverse public opinion. Sadly, Congress does not believe in internal democracy. The sense of entitlement can be seen in their conduct towards routine legal processes. 

“At present, their top leadership is on bail vis-a-vis a major scam. When the authorities seek to question them on their dealings, they do not even bother to reply,” he said.

Modi urged the voters to “stay vigilant” and work hard to strengthen the intuitions given to the country by the makers of our Constitution.

He also listed his government’s achievement and said in 2014, the people voted decisively for honesty over dynasty, development over decay, security over stagnation, opportunities over obstacles and development over vote-bank politics. 

“Indians were tired of our beloved nation being included in the Fragile Five, where corruption, cronyism and nepotism made headlines instead of anything positive. India voted to shed the baggage of the past in pursuit of a better future.

“The mandate of 2014 was epoch-making also because it was for the first time in the history of India that a non-dynastic party was blessed with a complete majority,” he said.

Modi also said when a government works with the spirit of “India First” instead of “family first”, it shows.

“Over the last five years, the Indian economy has been the cynosure of the world’s eyes,” he said. 

“India has made remarkable achievements in sanitation coverage, banking the unbanked, financing the un-financed, building futuristic infrastructure, homes for the homeless, providing healthcare for the poor and educating the youth,” he added.

He said reflective of this “paradigm shift” is the fact that now, there was a government that puts institutions above everything else.

Badla Is A Smart & An Impressive Suspense Drama With A Highly Shocking Climax

A genre where Bollywood has lagged whereas the Western movie industry has progressed by leaps & bounds is the suspense. When it comes to Hindi Cinema, very few such films are made out of which only a handful are memorable. One of them is Kahaani of the year 2012, directed by Sujoy Ghosh. Kahaani is one of the best films, of the new millennium, in this category. As a result, the expectations are naturally high for his latest directorial venture, Badla. What has also added to the curiosity is that it reunites the actors of the much-loved courtroom drama Pink of the year 2016,  Big B & Taapsee Pannu, that it is a remake of the much loved Spanish suspense thriller, The Invisible Guest.

So the scripted scenario of Badla is the story of a murder accused trying to prove her innocence. The opening scene of the film reveals Naina Sethi (Taapsee Pannu) is a successful businesswoman in London & married with a daughter. Naina Sethi’s life turns around when she’s accused of murdering her lover, Arjun Joseph (Tony Luke). All evidences are against Naina Sethi since she was the only one in the hotel room where Arjun Joseph was killed. But Naina Sethi claims that a 3^rd person was also present there who carried out the murder & even went to the extent of hurting her on the forehead. But the preliminary investigations revealed that the room was locked from inside. Witnesses outside the room confirmed that nobody came out of the room. Naina Sethi’s lawyer Jimmy Punjabi (Manav Kaul) realizes that it’s a tricky situation. Hence he hires an expert defense attorney named Badal Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan) to ensure that Naina Sethi doesn’t have to go to jail. Badal Gupta reaches the residence of Naina Sethi & he begins his own investigation. Upon talking to Naina Sethi & insisting that she tell him the truth, a lot of skeletons tumble out of her closet. Naina Sethi reveals that the murder of Arjun Joseph has something to do with the disappearance of a young man from a small town of Aviemore named Sunny Kaur. What happens next forms the rest of the crux of the film.

Oriol Paulo’s story, also the original writer of The Invisible Guest, is quite impressive & very much unlike the other murder mysteries. Sujoy Ghosh’s adapted screenplay tries it’s best to do justice to the original film & its plot. A lot of scenes are well written. However the film is complicated in the middle. For a layman, it might be difficult to ascertain what’s going on. Moreover, the Rashomon style of narrative can get a bit heavy on the viewers. Sujoy Ghosh & Raj Vasant’s dialogues are sharp & witty. A few dialogues however needlessly stretch the narrative.

However Sujoy Ghosh’s direction is exemplary & tries to keep the essence of The Invisible Guest alive. There a few loose ends, which were present in the The Invisible Guest as well. Yet Sujoy Gosh’s direction is such that one won’t mind since there’s so much happening in the film. Also with the shocking climax, Sujoy Ghosh scores a brownie point. On the flipside, Badla could have been shorter. The Invisible Guest was just 106 minutes long whereas Badla is 14 minutes longer than the original film The Invisible Guest. These extra minutes in this frame-by-frame remake are also because of a few dialogues that were not needed. Moreover, Sujoy Ghosh adds a crucial dialogue in the 1^st ever half that is a give-away of the film’s climax & it’s really surprising why Sujoy Ghosh did so. Also unlike the movie Kahani, this film is slightly niche & this could affect its box office turnstiles prospects.

In fact Badla’s opening credits are quite interesting & slick. The beginning portions of the film are a bit dragging. Too much time is wasted in Badal Gupta persuading Naina Sethi to part with the truth. It’s only when Naina Sethi starts talking that the interest levels of the film starts increasing. The best part of the 1^st ever half however is Arjun Joseph meeting Rani (Amrita Singh) & Nirmal and the shock he gets in their house. The intermission point too is interesting as it sets the mood for things to come. Post interval, the film remains engaging but at the same time, it also starts to drop at places. It’s only in the last 20 minutes when the tables turn is when the film arrests attention. The climax is definitely a bolt from the blue as no one could have seen it coming. But it should have been executed well for a better & more mainstream impact.

Badla is a song-less film, with only the title song, by Amaal Malik, played during the opening credits. Clinton Cerejo & Anupam Roy’s background score is engaging & it really suits the mood of the film. Avik Mukhopadhyay’s cinematography is appropriate & the outside the country scenes are well captured. Kaushik Das, Subrata Barik & Paul Rowen’s production design is fine although it could have been a bit more realistic in the hotel room scene. Dipika Lal & Anirudh Singh’s costumes are spot on. Christian Tinsley & Dominie Till’s prosthetics is damn good as it plays a very important part in the film. Sham Kaushal & Alister Mazzotti’s action is real. Monisha R Baldawa’s editing is sans complaints except for a few chosen scenes in the 1^st ever half & middle of the 2^nd hour.

Big B delivers a bravura performance as always & his scenes are only with Taapsee Pannu in an enclosed room. But he does it very well & adds to the dramatic & even funny quotient. Taapsee Pannu is exceptional & the way she brings out the various shades of her character to the forefront is praiseworthy. Throughout the film, it’ll be difficult to know if she’s the victim or not & this is possible majorly through her convincing performance. Amrita Singh is natural & has a crucial part in the film. She proves yet again that she deserves to be seen more. Tony Luke has an accent but that works for his character, but performance wise, he is 1^st rate. Manav Kaul is fine in a small role. Denzil Smith as a cop & the actors playing Sunny Kaur, Naina Sethi’s husband Sunil is just about okay.

Tail Piece: On the whole, Badla, a highly recommended movie, is a smart & an impressive suspense drama with the shocking climax & topped with a riveting performance of most of the actors being its USP.

At the box office turnstiles, its prospects might be limited only for the multiplex audience.

New Delhi/Mumbai, March 19 : Jet Airways flight maintenance engineers have written to the aviation regulator DGCA stating that the company’s aircraft are fit and safe to fly.

According to the Jet Aircraft Maintaince Enginners Welfare Association, the company has a 99.50 per cent technical dispatch reliability which is the highest in the industry. 

The corrigendum from the association comes after it had written to the DGCA on the issue of overdue salaries. 

The development also comes after the Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday directed senior officials to hold an emergency meeting on the grounding of flights by Jet Airways.

The Civil Aviation Minister tweeted: “Directed Secretary, MoCA, to hold an emergency meeting on grounding of flights by Jet Airways, advance bookings, cancellation, refunds and safety issues, if any. 

“Asked him to get a report on Jet compliance issues immediately from DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation).” 

The development comes a day after passengers were left stranded at Abu Dhabi as Jet Airways cancelled flights. The cash-strapped carrier, which has been forced to ground over 40 aircraft of its fleet due to non-payment of amounts outstanding to lessors, is regularly grounding aircraft as it is unable to pay the lessors.

[Nasheman news] Lucknow All four accused of thrashing three Kashmiri dry fruit sellers here after calling them “stone-pelters” on Wednesday have been arrested, police said on Thursday.

Briefing the media about “the unfortunate incident”, Director General of Police (Law & Order) Anand Kumar and Additional Director General of Police (Lucknow) Rajeev Krishna, said they had arrested the accused, who were identified as Bajrang Sonkar, Amar, Himanshu and Anirrudh. 

Sonkar, who was arrested earlier, is affiliated to the Vishwa Hindu Dal (VHD) and has a dozen criminal cases registered against him including one of murder, Senior Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani said.

The attackers were initially booked under the Indian Penal Code, but non-bailable offences have also been included now, he added.

The officials also said that the victims have been assured of security to carry out their business and have been provided medical care and compensation for the losses they incurred. 

The attack took place on Wednesday when a group of saffron-robed youths came out of a car and pounced on the Kashmiri men who were selling dry fruits on the Daliganj Bridge. The vendors were beaten up mercilessly, witnesses said, and their wares were thrown around. 

The attackers called the victims “stone-pelters” and asked them to produce their Aadhaar cards. The Kashmiris obliged but the attackers continued to beat them. 

No one came to the rescue of the victims. It was only after someone called the police that the Kashmiris were saved. 

Two of the injured vendors went away before police arrived there but a third, identified as Afzal, was taken to the local police station. Afzal was questioned for over an hour before an acquaintance vouched for him. 

No FIRs were registered against the attackers initially. It was only after a video of the incident went viral on the social media that police did so. 

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the brutality. “Nothing will do more damage to the idea of India in Jammu and Kashmir than videos like these,” he said in a series of tweets along with the video post.

“Keep thrashing Kashmiris like this on the streets at the hands of RSS/Bajrang Dal goons and then try to sell the idea of ‘atoot ang’ (unbreakable part), it simply won’t fly.” 

He called upon Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is also the Lucknow MP, to punish “those guilty of this assault”.
