The Mahadevapura police have arrested a 23-year-old electrical engineer and recovered 68 mobile phones which they had robbed from people in and around whitefield over the last one year.
The accused Girish,native of Hiriyuru who is an electrical engineering graduate worked in a private firm for a meagre salary .
Senior officer told reporters Girish quit the job to join his friend Ranganath,33 to rob mobile phones and make quick money.
During investigation it was revealed that Ranganath who earlier worked as delivery executive in a private firm also quit the job and started robbing phones from people.He was a habitual offender involved in similar crimes earlier.
Based on a mobile snatching case,reported,the Mahadevapura police took up the case and found that the accused partial face was recorded in a live video chat .
The victim was walking home while talking to his fiancee on a video call which is being recorded .
The accused followed the man in a bike,snatched the phone and sped away.In the act,a partial face of the accused was recorded in the recorded chat .
This was the first clue,the police have obtained about the accused,Following the leads, the police found that the stolen mobile tower location from Hiriiyuru town in Chitradurga.
The police verified the habitual offenders record to zero in on Ranganath and arrested him.
A detailed questioning led the police to recover 68 mobile phones worth Rs.20 lakh from them.
With their arrest,the police have solved nine mobile theft cases reported in and around the whitefield division,a senior officer,said .
The accused used to sell the mobile phones and used the money for their vices .
