As many as 11 people including a senior citizen had a narrow escape when a garage on the ground floor of their two-storey building in Suddaguntepalya caught fire late Sunday night.
Fire and emergency service personnel along with the jurisdictional police rushed to the spot and put out the fire before it could spread to other floors.
While a few residents were able to leave the building, many were still in their flats.Fortunately, we were able to contain the fire quickly and no one was hurt.
As many as 25 fire and emergency personnel were on the spot, said a police officer who was at the spot.
The owner of the building had rented out several portions in the first and second floor to tenants, while the ground floor had a few shops including the garage which was caught in the fire.
A team from the Department of Electrical Inspectorate are probing the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire though officials suspect that a short circuit was the cause.Investigations are on and we are waiting for the report, said a senior officer.
