Last day of filing nomination for LS Phase I in Karnataka, aspirants rush to file papers
Bengaluru, Mar 26 : Official candidates of major political parties and independents rushed to file their nominations for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka which will be held on April 18.
BJP’s G S Basavaraju, preparing himself for big battle and a fifth term is pitted against former Prime Minister and JD(S) Supremo H D Devegowda, filed his nomination for Tumakuru LS Seat. Besides he has task to take on sitting MP Muddu Hanumegowda of Congress, who is contesting as Congress rebel candidate as the seat was given to JD(S) as per Coalition understanding.
Sitting Lok Sabha member D K Suresh, brother of Karnataka Minister D K Shivakumar, filed his nomination to retain his Bengaluru Rural Seat. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and other Congress and JD(S) leaders were present lending support as a procession was taken out before filing his nomination.
Ms Shobha Kharandlje, BJP State General Secretary, filed her nomination to retain Udupi-Chikkamagalur Lok Sabha seat in temple town of Udupi. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and other BJP leaders were present during procession taken out by workers before filing her nomination.
Former AICC General Secretary B K Hariprasad filed his nomination for Bengaluru South. BJP’s last minute selection of staunch RSS follower Tejswi Surya, who filed his nomination from BJP after seeking blessings of Tejaswini, wife of Union Minister late H N Ananthkumar who died recently because of cancer and represented the segment for a record six times. ?We had recommended name of Ms Tejaswini for the seat but Central Selection Committee has selected Tejaswi. I don’t know the reason. But cadre-based party BJP will fully support Tejaswi,? BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa told newsmen.
Congress has selected Karnataka Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Krishna Byregowda to contest against two-time sitting BJP Lok Sabha member P C Mohan who has filed his nomination yesterday to retain his Bengaluru North seat. Huge processions were taken out by the candidates before filing their nominations.
While today is the last date for filing Nomination, scrutiny will be taken up tomorrow and March 29. Last date for withdrawal and in the first phase for 14 LS seats is March 29.
