Sonepat Manush Shah completed a grand double when he won back to back finals in the junior and youth boys categories at the 11Sports 80th Junior and Youth National Championships here on Sunday.
This was the first double title triumph for Manush at a national event.
Manush beat Ronit Bhanja of West Bengal 4-1 to win the youth boys title.
In the junior boys final, Manush played a brilliant attacking game against Delhi’s Payas Jain. The southpaw needed just four games 11-6, 11-7, 11-7, 13-11 to lift the title.
The confidence of the Gujarat left-hander was impeccable and his free-flowing strokes were always difficult for the opponent to handle as Payas would have realised. The Delhi boy, who played well throughout and even led his team to the first title, could not overcome the powerful Manush.
In the junior boys semis, Jain defeated Raegan Albuquerque 4-1 while Maush beat Deepit Patil 4-0.
Within a few minutes after claiming the junior boys title, Manush had to be ready for his battle against Rohit Bhanja for the youth Crown.
Putting his fatigue behind, Manush focused on the task at hand and defeated Bhanja despite the stretched first game and a couple more.
Exploiting the angles and executing his shots to perfection he posed a lot of problems for Bhanja, who managed to take a game of him. But beyond that Bhanja couldn’t do much against Manush, who was full of confidence and determination during his 18-16, 12-10, 10-12, 11-4, 11-5 triumph.
