Over 50 militants were killed and dozens injured as aircrafts pounded Taliban positions in Afghanistan’s Faryab province on Monday, an official said.
A group of Taliban militants blocked a road to target military convoys but the government forces in efforts to disperse the militants, conducted a series of sorties, as a result 54 militants were killed and dozens other injured, army spokesman Mohammad Hanif Rezai said.
Amongst those killed were two senior Taliban commanders — Mullah Shah Wali and Mullah Qayum, Xinhua quoted the official as saying.
According to the official, ground operations backed by air power are continuing in the area.
Taliban has not released any statement yet.
