The West Division police of Vijayanagar police on Tuesday booked a private hospital for denying treatment to a 64-year-old covid patient after she refused to buy the Remdesivir injection offered by the hospital at Rs.15,000 per each shot and later sourced it from the health department.
Upset About the fact that the family complained to the health department,the hospital discharged the patient and later refused to readmit her after she developed health complications.
The matter was brought to the notice of the health officer BBMP, Dr.Rajendra,who in turn filed a complaint after taking stock of the situation with the jurisdictional Vijayanagar police seeking legal action against the hospital authorities.
Senior officer told reporters,based on the complaint,the Vijayanagar police registered a case against Bharathy Hospital situated in Prashanthnagar.
Dr Rajendra in his complaint said that the victim Gouramma of JP Nagar was admitted to Bharathy hospital on May 8 after she was tested Covid positive .
The hospital demanded RS.15,000 from the family to give Remdesivir injection to the patient.
Since the family could not afford it,they sought the help of BBMP for assistance who in turn arranged the injection through the drug inspector of the area concerned.
The hospital staff,agitated that the family had complained against them,the staff discharged the patients the next day without treatment and also mentioned in the discharge summary that the patient has recovered.
Soon after returning home the patient developed breathing problems and were taken back to the Bharathy hospital where they refused to admit .
The family approached the BBMP again and took the patient to another hospital he said in his complaint.
The Vijayanagar police have booked the Bharathy Hospital charging the hospital management under Essential Commodities Act and also under section 308 (Attempt To commit culpable homicide)of IPC and are investigating it further he added.
