Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji was a great visionary leader, who understood people’s language and who led the country towards progress.
Shastri Ji was deeply influenced by the political teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said here in a press release on Tuesday.
Paying rich tributes to former PM on Shastri Ji’s death anniversary Bommai said, Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji was indeed an epitome of all that is best in the Indian culture.
Recalling Shastri Ji’s contribution,Bommai said that Shastri Ji worked ceaselessly for the betterment of the Nation and spent his lifetime till the last minute for the cause of the nation.
As Prime Minister, he gave the nation the stirring slogan,“Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” and he awakened the power of the people.
Shastri Ji laid utmost stress on strengthening the defence of the country and in honouring the man behind the plough, CM said in his statement.
Bommai also said that Shastri Ji resigned from his post as Minister for Railways because he felt responsible for a railway accident in which many lives were lost.The unprecedented gesture was greatly appreciated by Parliament and the country.
The then Prime Minister,Pt.Nehru,speaking in Parliament on the incident, extolled Lal Bahadur Shastri’s integrity and high ideals.
Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri will always be remembered as an excellent leader, and for his humility, courage and integrity, which were legendary. Nation will never forget this great son of India, CM Bommai said in press release.
