Healthy children are the wealth of the country. Polio is a terrible
disease, which causes permanent disability in children.
The disease affects
children under the age of 5 years more as compared to other age groups.
There have been no reported cases of polio in India since 2011.
The
World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared India a polio-free nation in 2014.
However, considering that there are still some cases reported in
neighbouring countries it is imperative that we continue with strict vigilance, surveillance and preventive actions.
Against this backdrop this year, under the guidance of Government
of India the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Program has been planned from 27-02-2022 to 02-03-2022.
Target population of children below 5 years for vaccinating this
year is 10,80,104.
The program will be implemented across the city with 141 planning units, situated at BBMP UPHCs along with 3404
Vaccination Booths (includes mobile and transit teams), installed across
all 198 wards.
More than 15000 team members will be mobilised for the
program.Dedicated teams are also assigned for slums population and
migrant camps.
There shall also special mobile and transit booths installed at key
sites like schools,major parks,metro stations,religious places of worship,play schools,day care centres,major bus transit points,metro station,market areas,shopping malls,play areas and slums.
Nodal officers have been appointed from all departments to oversee
and coordinate immunisation implementation, coverage and management
across these booths.
In addition, the program has also been widely advertised on
television, radio and newspapers and in public places such as malls, commercial areas, markets.

Bengaluru to educate the public about the program.
