Greenwood High pledges support for a noble cause through Colorothon

Bengaluru: Embracing the spirit of Republic Day celebrations nationwide, Greenwood High International School joined hands with Colorothon to support a noble cause through the event. Greenwood High also bought 500 paintings from Colorothon to support Omashram Trust, a non-profit trust that shelters abandoned senior citizens and children. The event was held at Kittur Rani Chennamma Stadium, Jayanagar and saw tremendous response from the public

The theme of the event was ‘Come, draw your imagination’. Following the event, the best 3 artists were invited to Greenwood High as guest lecturers, to have an interaction with the students who would like to pursue art as their career. The idea was to promote the budding artists and give them a platform to take their talent to next level. The event was open to creative minds of all ages, with an open mind and love for art.

The event also hosted a slew of cultural shows like art bazaars, drum circles, stand-up comedy, magic show, etc. Grafitti walls were mounted and the event also showcased live painting, live cartoonists, caricatures, etc. The students of Greenwood High presented a skit, followed by a Yoga Performance by Chaitra Chaya Seva, a workshop by Faith Foundation on Child Abuse and a Magic Show by Rakesh Regan. The Genesis School of Dance also gave a spectacular performance.

Colorothon is also supporting Omashram Trust, who are doing an excellent job of reaching out to the elderly and caring for the needy. Karnataka State Schools Team Chess Championship 2016

Bengaluru: Greenwood High International School, under the auspices of United Karnataka Chess Association will be organising the 3rd Karnataka State Schools Team Chess Championship 2016. The competition will be held from February 02 – 05, 2016 at Greenwood High International School Campus. The tournament will be conducted in Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15 and under-18 Categories separately for Boys and Girls. The last date for entries is 27th January 2016.

Constitution Day celebrated at Greenwood High International School

Bengaluru: In a bid to join the country in national fervour and its tribute, Greenwood High International School celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar, which will be marked as the Constitution Day henceforth. The special school assembly began with Dr. B R Ambedkar’s teachings and the importance of the day by Principal, Aloysius D’Mello. The students enacted a skit depicting some important events of freedom struggle and the formation of the Constituent Assembly. The preamble to the constitution was also read out in the assembly by all students to mark the significant day. A presentation demonstrated the salient features of the constitution and its making. The program concluded with the school song and the National Anthem.

Niru Agarwal, Trustee, Greenwood High International School said, “We planned a special assembly today to mark the birth anniversary of one of the most inspiring social reformer which also coincides with the day when the Indian Constitution was adopted in 1949. He was also the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and we wanted the students to understand the fundamental values of our Constitution. Greenwood High students stand first in the country in the Cambridge IGCSE exams

Bengaluru: Greenwood High students Pavan Kumar Chitta and Guru Sarjith Senthil have done their school and state proud, by topping the country in two IGCSE categories. Pavan was awarded the first place for any student with eight IGCSE subjects, and Guru was declared top in the country in Computer Science. These two students, who continue to study with Greenwood High, are elated, as are their teachers.

Though the results were announced in August 2015, final rankings are declared only after re valuation process gets over by Cambridge, which closes by the end of September.

Cambridge International Examinations has taken note of these high achievements: “We congratulate our students from India for another year of remarkable performance and high achievement. Such accomplishments are the result of their hard work and the support of their teachers, schools and parents. At Cambridge we are committed to helping prepare students for life, and we wish all of our students success in their future endeavours,” said Ruchira Ghosh, Regional Director South Asia, Cambridge International Examinations.

Commenting on this achievement, Niru Agarwal, Trustee, Greenwood High International School said “The members of the board are extremely proud of these two students and of the talented and hardworking faculty, for showing that the IGCSE programme at Greenwood High, Bangalore is one of the best in the country. It really feels great to know that the effort we have put in has paid off. We are proud of our students, who have constantly worked hard to meet everyone’s expectations and we wish them success in all their future endeavors. I wish to thank our teachers too for providing guidance and support to these children, adds Niru Agarwal.

The principal of the school Mr. Aloysius D’Mello said that it was heartening to see Greenwood High rise to the top of the country in so short a span of time, and that this could only have been achieved with the dedication and hard work of the entire school community.

These two students are now enrolled in the challenging International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Greenwood High and have aspirations of attending the best universities in the world.

English author, Alan Gibbons, visits Greenwood High

Bengaluru: The students of Greenwood High were enthralled by eminent English author, Alan Gibbons, when he visited the school and spent the day interacting with students. Alan Gibbons has won many awards including the Blue Peter Book Award, competing against such well-known authors as Michael Murpurgo and J. K. Rowling. He is well-known for his campaigns in England to encourage reading and to support the public libraries.

In his lively talk to students he conveyed the important message that one needs to persist as writer or in any field in order to become successful. He used anecdotes from his own life to send a powerful message across to the students. Mr. Gibbons also conducted creative writing workshops with the students covering a variety of genres and techniques.
