Verdict: AVERAGE
Director Quentin Tarantino of Pulp Fiction fame does not need any special introduction. His films are mostly based on non – linear story lines, satirical subject matter and above all aesthetic nay mindless violence. So his latest film The Hateful Eight is no exception.
Plot: Set 12 years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth and his fugitive Daisy Domergue, race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter 2 strangers: Major Marquis Warren, a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix, a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. And thence begins the scenario of mindless and meaningless violence.
Aces: The powerfully riveting performance of stalwart actors Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demien Bichir, Tim Roth, Micheal Madsen and Bruce Dern. What holds you is the presentation of the film revealed in 5 varied chapters which raises your anxiety and curiosity level. This is Quentin’s 8th film and a sequel of his 7th film Django Unchained.
Minuses: Too much of gruesome blood and gore with characters being shot dead at close range in every single reel of the 5 chapters.
Last Word: Recommended only for persons who are die – hard fans of adventure and mystery, but certainly not for the weak hearted persons. Period!
