Ramzan, also known as Ramadan, is the ninth month of Islamic Calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a traditional month of fasting (Roza) to enshrine the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief. The annual observance is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam. The month lasts 29 to 30 days based on the sightings of the crescent moon.
Fasting the month Ramadan was made Wājib during the month of Sha’ban, in the second year after the Muslims migrated from Mecca to Medina. Prefast meals before Dawn are referred to as Suhoor, while the post-fast meals after sunset are called Iftar. During the month of Ramzan, Muslims are seen giving alms to people and helping people in need of food, clothing, etc.
