Mysuru, Apr 9 : The century year old University of Mysore has been ranked 54th among Universities and stands overall at 80th position among institutions of higher education in the country, as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) released by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.
The rank list of educational institutions was released and the University of Mysore, which ranked 36th among the universities in the 2017 list, had not figured in the top 100 in 2018.
Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore G Hemantha Kumar said that this year’s ranking was a big jump compared to last year when the university could not break into top 100. ?This year we are the top public university in Karnataka and our aim is to break into the top 20 public universities in the country,? he added.
There is a 40 per cent staff scarcity and the government is expected to clear the recruitment process after the elections which will help improve the varsity’s performance, he said.
Adequate funds will be proved for research so that the overall ranking and the standard of the varsity improves, Prof. Hemantha Kumar added.
The JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research was ranked 34th among universities while its overall ranking is 55th in the country. JSS Medical College ranked 17th in India among medical colleges while its pharmacy colleges in Ooty and Mysuru figure among the top 10 pharmacy colleges in the country.
Expressing happiness over the results, C H Betsurmath, executive director of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, said the focus of JSS Academy of Higher Learning is to be among the top educational institutions in the country with focus on research. ?Our performance be it the number of patents, research papers published in scientific journals is impressive and the laboratory is being upgraded to make it state-of-the-art, all of which have paid rich dividends,? he said.
Suresh, Vice-Chancellor of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, said rankings will stimulate further research which will benefit the society and pave way for its emergence among the best universities in the country. Among engineering colleges Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering ranked 120th in the country and the National Institute of Engineering ranked 178th.
