A city based businessman has filed a complaint with the West Division cyber crime police against a woman who lured his son into a private chat through a mobile app and recorded the private video to blackmail him.
Shreekanth in his complaint,said that his son(Mihir Bharadwaj),a college student had downloaded Woo mobile app and chatted with a girl a few days ago .
The accused disrobed and forced him to do the same.She later recorded the 16 seconds conversation and began to blackmail him demanding ransom.
The victim paid Rs 39,100 transferred to her account, but when the demand for more money threatening to upload the video on social media increased, he informed the family members.
This is the most common form of cyber crime and many people have become victims,a police officer said adding that the victims should be careful when downloading mobile apps and in case of any eventualities,people should not heed to the demands and should not pay and inform their family .
Based on the complaint filed by Shreekanth MJ, from Binnipete,the West Division cyber crime police have registered a case against the accused charging under section 66 E (capturing, publishing,transmitting images of a private area of any person without consent violating the privacy),of the IT Act on Saturday.
It may be recalled that a 26-year-old MBA graduate and IAS Aspirant ended life after being blackmailed in a similar case in KR Puram in April this year .
