Saudi Govt agree to build churches for Christians living in the Muslim country’

May 5, 2018 by Nasheman

A deal between Saudi Arabia and the Vatican
The supposed deal would see the Saudi government help Christian worshippers
Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran has visited Saudi Arabia and met the royals this year
By Tim Stickings For Mailonline

Saudi Arabia has agreed a deal with the Vatican to build churches for Christian worshippers in the Arab country, it is claimed by Middle Eastern media.

If confirmed, the supposed agreement between Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran and Mohammed bin Abdel Karim Al-Issa of the Muslim World League would mark a historic first in Saudi history.

The cardinal has visited Saudi Arabia this year and met the royal family, urging the Muslim country to treat its citizens equally.

Under the alleged agreement the churches will be built alongside the establishment of a committee to improve relations between the two, Egypt Independent reports.

There was no immediate confirmation from the Vatican. MailOnline has approached Vatican and Saudi authorities for comment but they have not yet responded.

Saudi Arabia’s anti-extremism Etidal centre hosted Cardinal Tauran last month as the crown prince pushes for inter-religious exchange in the ultra-conservative Sunni kingdom.

There are no Christian churches in Saudi Arabia, the only country in the region without one.

The Vatican has previously spoken of its wish to provide the Christian population of Saudi Arabia with the ability to worship.

“Symbolic Move”: N Korea resets time to match with S Korea’s clock zone

May 5, 2018 by Nasheman

In a welcome decision towards better inter-Korean ties, North Korea went forward in time by 30 minutes on Saturday (May 05), to match its clocks with those of the South Korea.

The “symbolic move” followed last week’s inter-Korean summit.

According to media reports, the time-resetting is the first practical step taken after the historic third north-south summit meeting to speed up the process for the North and the South to become one.

It may be recalled that Kim Jong Un had promised the move during the meeting at Panmunjom in the Demilitarized Zone that divides the peninsula, when he and the South’s President Moon Jae-in pledged to pursue denuclearisation and a peace treaty.

Karnataka CM does not breath as easy as his son

May 5, 2018 by Nasheman

The sacrifice made by Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah for his son may not go waste.Yathindra is well placed in Varuna Assembly constituency in the state which he has vacated for him.

The constituency had elected Siddaramaiah twice and was considered by every body who was some body as a safe seat. But he shifted to nearby Chamundeshwari because he wanted to offer him a seat where his victory was more certain. Both the constituencies are close to this old city.

His son is a political novice and entering the polical arena for the first time. Therefore, any other seat would not have been as suitable.

Besides his father nursing the constituency for long, his elder had made frequent trips to the area and was familiar with a lot of people who mattered. As Sidda was busy in his official works he had been made head of a constituency committee which was set up to oversee developmental works.

He is no more. He died in 2016, leaving the unfinished tasks for his brother to complete. He has been visiting the constituency for last one and a half years but is not as well known to people as is his father and his brother.

The chief minister’s son is breathing easy because of them. Another factor favouring him is that two other major political parties, the BJP and the JDS, have not fielded political heavyweights against him.

The situation is completeliy different for his father in Chamundeshwari because a sitting JDS member is pitted agaianst nim and the party leader H D Kumaraswamy is going there every now and then to campaign against him.

However, he is contesting from one more seat, Badami, which is dominated by his Kuruba caste . That may help him.

Varuna has a different tale. Besides the blessing of his father, Yathidra has goodwill of his supporters who are large in numbers because he represented the constituency for ten years and was at the helm of affairs in the state.

“We will vote for him because of his father who had launched a number of welfare schemes in the area. These good roads that you are were constructed during his first five-year term. Besides roads, he provided power to agriculture and industry (sectors)”, claimed R. Shekhar.

The other supporters of 37-year-old Yathindra, a doctor by profession, has almost the same story to tell. They all agree that if Yeddyurappa’s son, Vijayendra ,had been in the fray the situation might have been different. His name was dropped at the last moment.

Yeddyurappa is a popular Lingayat leader of the state. He is also the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate. So, if his son was his main opponent the CM’s son would not have been as comfortable.

One of his supporters made no bones about it. “He might have won even then but the victory margin would have been much lower”. The denial of ticket to Yeddy’s son has surprised many in the party, too, because he was assuured about it and had begun canvassing in the constituency.

Perhaps, the BJP tried to prove by this act that it was against dynastic politics. However, it is not an issue with Siddaramaiah supporters. “Children of politicians also have ambitions. What is wrong if a politician’s son seeks election?”, asked R V Vijay.

The BJP has a different take on it.

Mumbai beat Punjab by six wickets

May 5, 2018 by Nasheman

Opener SuryaKumar Yadav’s 57 run knock and some useful contributions from other batters helped Mumbai Indians beat Kings XI Punjab by six wickets in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Friday.

With this win Mumbai is sitting at the fifth spot with six points in nine matches, while Punjab is at fourth spot with 10 points in eight matches.

Mumbai started 175 run chase on a positive note, scoring 38 runs in 5.3 overs, but after that opener Evin Lewis (10) departed. Lewis was caught behind Mujeeb ur Rahman.

New batsman Ishan Kishan (25) and SuryaKumar then joined hands and played sensibly. The duo also managed to hit few beautifully crafted shots. But just when things seemed good in the middle, in-form SuryaKumar was dismissed by Marcus Stoinis in the 12th over when scoreboard was reading 80. His 42-ball knock was laced with six boundaries and three sixes.

Hardik Pandya also contributed but failed to make a good start count as he was sent packing in the 13th over. He played 13 balls and slammed 23 runs.

Middle-order batsmen Rohit Sharma (24) and Krunal Pandya (31) then forged an unbeaten 46 run partnership for the fifth wicket to overhaul the target with one over to spare.

For Punjab, Rahman scalped two wickets.

Earlier, a half-century by Chris Gayle followed by some fireworks by Marcus Stoinis in the final moments helped Kings XI Punjab post a challenging 174/6.

Punjab somewhat squandered a great 54-run start by openers Lokesh Rahul (24 off 20) and Gayle (50 off 40 balls), before picking pace towards the end as Stoinis deposited Hardik Pandya for two sixes and as many fours to milk 22 runs off the final over.

The self-proclaimed “Universe Boss” slammed his 24th IPL fifty, decorated with six boundaries and couple of sixes.

Put in to bat, Punjab were off to a decent beginning as the openers took Punjab past the 50-run mark in 6.1 overs.

Mumbai’s find of the tournament Mayank Markande came up with the first breakthrough after dismissing Rahul in the seventh over with the scoreboard reading 54 runs.

Gayle was then joined by veteran Yuvraj Singh and the duo stitched a 34-run partnership for the second wicket before pacer Ben Cutting ended the Caribbean southpaw’s innings in the 12th over.

Yuvraj (14 off 14 balls), who was promoted up the batting order, once again failed to fire as the out-of-form batsman was the next to depart in the 13th over with Punjab’s scorecard reading 96/3.

Karun Nair and Axar Patel then showed some resistance, adding 36 runs for the fourth wicket.

Pacers Jaspreet Bumrah and Mitchell McClenaghan further jolted the hosts after dismissing Nair (23 off 12 balls) and Patel (13 off 12 balls) in the 16th and 17th overs, respectively.

Stoinis then played a cameo of a 15-ball 29, while Mayank Agarwal chipped in with 11 runs down the order to help Punjab reach a healthy score.

For Mumbai, McClenaghan, Bumrah, Hardik, Markande and Cutting bagged a wicket each.

Brief Scores: Kings XI Punjab 174/6 (Chris Gayle 50, Marcus Stoinis 29; Jasprit Bumrah 1/19) vs Mumbai Indians 176/4 (SuryaKumar Yadav 57; Mujeeb ur Rahman 2/37).
