Jasprit Bumrah Takes hat-trick to captain Kohli

September 2, 2019 by Nasheman

Part of the credit for Bumrah’s hat-trick go to skipper Kohli, who insisted on a review after Roston Chase, his third victim, was initially given not out by the on-field umpire Paul Reiffel.

KINGSTON: Part of the credit for Bumrah’s hat-trick go to skipper Kohli, who insisted on a review after Roston Chase, his third victim, was initially given not out by the on-field umpire Paul Reiffel.

“I owe my hat-trick to the captain,” Jasprit Bumrah told an enamoured Virat Kohli after blowing away the West Indies with his heady cocktail of line and length, pace and bounce.

Known as much for his infectious energy as for his incredible batting, Kohli was caught on the stump mic saying, “What a bowler, man! What a bowler”, after Bumrah removed one the West Indies batsmen.

The review was correct as Bumrah became only the third Indian to claim a hat-trick in Test cricket.ADVERTISING

“Actually I didn’t know, I was not very sure of the appeal, I thought it was bat so I didn’t appeal so much, but it was a good review in the end. So, I think, I owe that hat-trick to the captain,” Bumrah said as Kohli held the mic for ‘BCCI TV’ during an interaction.

I owe my hat-trick to you – Bumrah tells @imVkohli @Jaspritbumrah93 became the third Indian to take a Test hat-trick. Hear it from the two men who made it possible

It is not easy to sweep Kohli off his feet, but Bumrah has done that a few times in recent times, and the second day of the second Test against the West Indies was one of those moments.

In a lethal opening spell, Bumrah (6/16) rattled the West Indies by picking up the first five wickets, three of which came in successive balls in the ninth over.

“Sometimes when there is so much of help in the wicket, we saw in the previous inning as well there was a lot of bounce they were getting a lot of bounce, they were getting late movement as well.

“So, sometimes, when there is so much of help you can get greedy, you can go for wickets, you can try to be over-aggressive, that time you have to keep things simple, just try and bowl good balls and create pressure.

That was the thing that was going on in my head,” Bumrah said.

The leader of the team asked the leader of the pace pack about understanding among the fast bowlers.

“Understanding is very good with other pacers. There is a lot of communication that goes on and off the field as well. When I am getting wickets, somebody else’ job at that time is to create pressure, when somebody else is getting wickets my job is to create pressure.

“So a lot of communication goes — when there is no help what we can do — Ishant has played more than 90 Test matches, Shami has played a lot of Tests.

“So lot of ideas come in and then we try to help each other if things are not going well, push each other. So that’s a good relation going on and hopefully we will continue,” Bumrah said.

T20 against South Africa: MS Dhoni unlikely as selectors ready to persist with Rishabh Pant

T20 against South Africa: MS Dhoni unlikely as selectors ready to persist with Rishabh Pant

New Delhi, Aug 28: Mahendra Singh Dhoni may have put his international retirement on hold but he is unlikely to be selected for India’s three-match T20 home series against South Africa starting September 15 in Dharamsala.

The team for the series is expected to be picked on September 4. The remaining two games will be played at Mohali (September 18) and Bengaluru (September 22).

In all likelihood, the squad that blanked West Indies 3-0 is likely to be retained (subject to fitness) and the selection committee wants to continue building towards World T20 in Australia in October 2020.

“There are only 22 T20 Internationals before India play their first World T20 game and selectors are clear in their vision that it’s time to move forward,” a senior BCCI official privy to developments in selection committee told PTI on Wednesday.

“They are planning on getting a pool of three keepers ready for limited overs, especially T20s,” he added.

It is still not clear whether the BCCI brass or the selection committee will speak to Dhoni to enquire about his plans like they did before the West Indies tour when the former captain informed that he would be taking a break to serve his regiment in Territorial Army.

“Retirement is an individual decision and selectors or for that matter, no one has any right to decide on that front. But they have every right to decide the roadmap for the 2020 World T20 and that’s to give Rishabh Pant maximum chances,” the official explained.

It is learnt that the second and third option for the selection committee is Sanju Samson, whose batting is considered to be on par with Pant and India A regular Ishan Kishan.

While Pant remains the first choice across formats, the selectors are also factoring in the fitness and workload management.

A few members of the selection committee will be in Thiruvananthapuram for the A series and Samson’s performance will be keenly watched as he has made the squad for the last two List A games.

As far as batting is concerned, the selection committee believes that Samson is ready for top level cricket but his wicket-keeping is still work in progress.

“Pant scored a fifty in the last T20 that he played. Ishan Kishan is in the A set-up. Do we even have an option of looking back when we need consistent big hitters on big Australian grounds?” the official questioned.

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar also quoted besides Rahul Gandhi in Pak letter to UN

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar also quoted besides Rahul Gandhi in Pak letter to UN

NEW DELHI: Pakistan has not just used Congress’s Rahul Gandhi’s name in its letter to the United Nations, alleging massive human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. It has also referred to the ruling BJP; the document also names Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh Vikram Saini, citing their remarks on Kashmiri women.

Under a section ‘Gender-based Violence as a weapon of war”, the letter from Pakistan mentions a video showing Mr Saini. “Muslim party workers should rejoice in the new provisions. They can now marry the white-skinned women of Kashmir,” the letter quoted him as saying.

Mr Khattar’s remarks, referring to similar comments, were also quoted. “Some people are now saying that as Kashmir is open, brides will be brought from there. But jokes apart, if (the gender) ratio is improved, then there will be right balance in society,” the letter quoted him as saying.

The BJP leaders’ remarks about Kashmiri women were severely criticised by the opposition and rights activists.

Mayawati had called Mr Khattar’s remarks an example of “mean mentality”. Rahul Gandhi had tweeted: “Haryana CM, Khattar’s comment on Kashmiri women is despicable and shows what years of RSS training does to the mind of a weak, insecure and pathetic man. Women are not assets to be owned by men.”

On Wednesday, the BJP shredded Rahul Gandhi, saying his comments on Kashmir shamed the nation and were “used” by Pakistan.

“The Pakistani application to the UN mentions remarks made by Rahul Gandhi. The application states that acts of violence have been acknowledged by mainstream party leaders such as Rahul Gandhi,” said union minister Prakash Javadekar.

Demanding an apology from Mr Gandhi and the Congress, Mr Javadekar added, “Rahul Gandhi said that things in Jammu and Kashmir were going wrong, there were reports of people dying in J&K. You were wrong, Rahul Gandhi. Things are fine in J&K, there is no violence as you imagined”.

The Congress has called Pakistan’s move a “mischievous” attempt to drag Mr Gandhi’s name into the matter. Mr Gandhi set the record straight in tweets, calling Pakistan a “prime supporter of terrorism”.

“I disagree with this Govt. on many issues. But, let me make this absolutely clear: Kashmir is India’s internal issue & there is no room for Pakistan or any other foreign country to interfere in it,” another tweet read.

Indrani dubs Chidambaram's arrest as 'good news'

Mumbai: Jailed media baron Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the killing of her daughter, on Thursday termed the arrest of former Union finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX media money laundering case as “good news”.

Chidambaram was arrested on August 21 by the CBI in the INX Media corruption and money laundering case. Indrani Mukerjea and her husband Peter Mukerjea are former promoters of the INX Media Group.

“His (Chidambaram) arrest is good news. He is now cornered from all sides,” Indrani Mukerjea told reporters in a sessions court where she was produced to attend trial in the case of killing of her daughter Sheena Bora.

She further said the bail granted to the former Union minister’s son Karti Chidambaram in the INX Media case should also be cancelled.

Indrani Mukerjea had earlier recorded her statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), claiming she and her husband met P Chidambaram at the latter’s office in Delhi’s North Block.

She also claimed in her statement that the former Union minister had asked her to help his son Karti Chidambaram in his business and make overseas remittances in lieu of granting Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to INX Media.

Rupee falls 17 paise against US dollar in early trade

Mumbai: The rupee depreciated by 17 paise to 71.95 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday, tracking weak domestic equity market and persistent foreign fund outflows.

Pessimism over US-China trade talks also put pressure on the domestic unit, forex dealers said. However, a weak dollar against other major currencies overseas and softening crude prices restricted the rupee’s fall, they added. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened weak at 71.96 and fell further to 72.05 against the US dollar. The domestic currency, however, pared some losses and was trading at 71.95.

The rupee fell 29 paise to close at 71.77 against the US dollar on Wednesday. The BSE Sensex was trading 215.51 points, or 0.58 per cent, lower at 37,236.33, while the broader Nifty fell 58.90 points, or 0.53 per cent, to 10,987.20 in early trade.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers in the capital markets, pulling out Rs 935.27 crore on Wednesday, as per provisional data.

Meanwhile, investors remained edgy over concerns about developments in the China-US trade talks. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, declined 0.63 per cent to USD 60.11 per barrel.

The dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.02 per cent to 98.19. The 10-year government bond yield was up at 6.57 per cent in morning trade.

Screen grab from the video

Khandwa: A video showing two students cleaning the toilet of a government school in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district went viral on Wednesday, with some reports claiming that they had been promised additional marks.

According to local sources, a family member of a student shot the video on Monday when he found two boys cleaning the toilet of the school at village Sihada near here.

One of the students reportedly told him that the school principal had asked them to clean the toilet, promising them additional five marks in the examination.

District Education Officer J S Raghuvanshi said an official has been sent to the village to conduct an inquiry.

District Collector Tanvi Soundriyal, however, said there was nothing wrong if students did such jobs.

“It would have been wrong if the teacher had asked students from a particular community to clean up the toilet.

There is nothing wrong if all the children are doing it,” she told reporters.

People, parties should have been consulted before abrogation of Art 370: Siddaramaiah

People, parties should have been consulted before abrogation of Art 370: Siddaramaiah

Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah addresses a press conference, in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said the people of Jammu and Kashmir as well as all other political parties should have been taken into confidence before abrogating the provisions of Article 370, that gave special status to the state.

Siddaramaiah, who is on a tour of flood hit regions of north Karnataka, especially Belagavi and Bagalkot, tweeted: “The Central government neither convened an all-party meeting nor spoke to the people of the state before the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370.”

The senior Congress leader felt the government should have spoken to the all concerned before abolishing the provisions in the Constitution as per the then prevailing political situation.

He said that the government “shouldn’t have thought of deriving political mileage out of it”.

“Who will address issues like unemployment, poverty, illiteracy and hunger if politics is played around emotional issues? The government’s job is not to gain sympathy, seek publicity and mislead people on emotional matters.

The tragedy, however, is that the Union government is doing nothing other than this,” Siddaramaiah said.

The Union government had on August 5 abrogated the provisions of Article 370 giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The Congress leader also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting flood affected areas of Karnataka.

“The Prime Minister, who frequently visits foreign countries, has no time to tour flood affected areas.

Going abroad cannot be avoided, but shouldn’t one take note of the sufferings of the people of the country?” Siddaramaiah tweeted.

He flayed Modi for “focusing only on those areas where he got maximum publicity”.

Since he would not get due publicity, he did not travel to the flood affected areas, Siddaramaiah claimed.

The heavy rains which hit parts of Karnataka in the first fortnight of August, wreaked havoc with almost all the rivers in spate.

As many as 82 people lost their lives in flood and rain related incidents. About five lakh people were displaced.

According to the state government, 103 taluks of 22 districts were affected.

The flood damaged 7.5 lakh hectares of land and 75,317 houses.
