J&K ties with India will end if Art 370 scrapped: Mehbooba Mufti

SRINAGAR/NEW DELHI: Former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday warned that “J&K’s relations with India would end” in case Articles 35A and 370 of the Constitution — which provide special status and exclusive powers to the state regarding residency — are abrogated.

Mehbooba was reacting to BJP president Amit Shah‘s assertion in an interview to ET that removal of Articles 370 and 35A was the way forward for a solution to the Kashmir problem.

“These are still our issues. We needed full majority in Parliament. We did not have this (majority) in the Rajya Sabha. This time also, these issues will be part of our manifesto,” Shah had said in the interview, adding, “By 2020, we will have majority (in the Rajya Sabha).”

Reacting sharply to the statement, Mehbooba said: “If that turns out to be the case, 2020 will also be a deadline from Jammu & Kashmir to the nation. If you remove those terms and conditions on which J&K acceded to India, our relation with the country will also end.”

The former chief minister was answering reporters’ queries on Shah’s statement after filing her nominations from the Anantnag Lok Sabha consti

The threat drew a furious response from BJP, with finance minister Arun Jaitleyterming it “absurd” and emphasising that J&K will remain a part of India irrespective of what happens to Articles 35A and 370.

“The Instrument of Accession that J&K signed in 1947 was not different from the ones other princely states signed when they merged themselves into India. Article 370 came into being in 1950 while Article 35(A) was incorporated into the Constitution in 1954 and this makes it clear that these subsequent developments were not prerequisite to J&K’s accession to India,” he said.

Jaitley said that territorial integrity is part of the nation’s basic structure and can never be impacted by changes in the Constitution. “Will India ever become part of the UK if Westminster were to revoke the Indian Independence Act?” he said.

The exchanges between BJP and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti have increased the likelihood that J&K will loom large over the polls as a wedge issue. BJP has also locked horns with Congress over the promises the latter has made as part of its manifesto to hold unconditional talks with all stakeholders to reduce the presence of the Army and paramilitary forces in the Valley and to undertake a review of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

Mehbooba, who is seeking to reclaim ground she lost in the Valley, had lashed out at Shah over the latter’s assertion about BJP’s ambition to do away with Articles 370 and 35A.

Both Shah and Modi have attacked Congress on its silence over the stand of its ally, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, that J&K should have its own PM. In another twist, senior Congressman Karan Singh, the son of late Maharaja Hari Singh, has also said Article 370 was not part of terms on which his father merged his principality into India.

RBI Cuts Key Interest Rate Week Before Election, Loans Set To Get Cheaper

April 4, 2019 by Nasheman

Four out of the six members of the Monetary Policy Committee voted in favour of a 25 basis points cut in repo rate.E

The RBI decided to retain its policy stance as “neutral”

The Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee on Thursday announced a reduction in repo rate to 6 per cent from 6.25 per cent, in line with a majority of economists’ expectations. The RBI maintained its neutral policy stance, which enables it to move either way on the key rates. Repo rate is the key interest rate at which the RBI lends short-term funds to commercial banks. More than 85 per cent of the nearly 70 economists polled by news agency Reuters had expected the central bank to cut the benchmark lending rate by 25 basis points to 6.00 per cent today.

Four out of the six members of the Monetary Policy Committee voted in favour of a 25 basis points cut in repo rate, while the other two voted to keep rate unchanged.

The central bank projected GDP growth at 7.2 per cent for financial year 2019-20, according to its first policy statement of financial year 2019-20 The RBI said it expects economic growth to be in the range of 6.8-7.1 per cent in the first half of the current financial year, and in the range of 7.3-7.4 per cent in the second half with “risks evenly balanced”.

Inflation is likely to remain benign in the short term, it noted. Assuming a normal monsoon in 2019, the RBI lowered its CPI inflation projection to 2.4 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2018-19.

For the first half of the current financial year, which began on April 1, the central bank expects inflation at 2.9-3.0 per cent, and 3.5-3.8 per cent in the second half.

Thursday’s rate revision – the second reduction this calendar year – means commercial banks will have more room to pass on the benefit of lower lending rates to loan borrowers. At the same time it would also translate into a lower interest rate earned by depositors.

The latest policy statement comes after the first bi-monthly review meeting of financial year 2019-20 by the Monetary Policy Committee which began on April 2.

India’s growth in GDP or gross domestic product slowed to 6.6 per cent in the October-December period, its slowest pace recorded since the quarter ended September 2017.

Consumer inflation – gauged by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) – picked up to 2.57 per cent in February from the 19-month low of 1.97 per cent the previous month.

The RBI has set a medium-term goal of 4 per cent for consumer inflation, which it tracks primarily to formulate its policy.

Yeddyurappa questions credibility of those who drafted Congress Election Manifesto

April 3, 2019 by Nasheman

Kalaburagi, Apr 3 : Terming the Congress Election Manifesto as a bunch of false promises, Opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly B S Yeddyurappa, who is also BJP State President, questioned the credibility of those who drafted the Manifesto.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Congress is trying to come to power by unethical and by supporting anti-national forces and hence has come out with such a manifesto. ” They want to remove law of sedition, this is nothing but supporting anti-nationalism. People of the country will not support Congress”.

Former Chief Minister took strong exception to AICC President Rahul Gandhi’s repeated statement about farmers loan waiver and said that in Karnataka the coalition government assured waiver of Rs 46,000 crore but it was not fulfilled even after nine months in office.
Yeddyurappa claimed that the popularity of Narendra Modi has increased in the last five years and BJP will retain power at the Centre and Modi will continue to be Prime Minister.

“Secular Democratic Congress To File Objections (ECI) Against Candidates Contesting More Than 1 Seat” – R A Janab

April 3, 2019 by Nasheman

By : Rizwan Asad

National President Of SDC P P John To Contest From Waynad Loksabha Seat

Karnataka State President R A Janab of SDC, a newly formed political party from Kerala said that they will be approaching Election Commissioner of India against candidates contesting from more than I seat.

National President of SDC Mr P P John Filing Nomination From Waynad

By the way the Secular Democratic Congress (SDC) is all set to fight against corruption, family dynasty politics & communal forces, rights for woman’s reservation, rights of senior citizen’s to live with dignity & also freedom of speech, rights of freedom of speech & expression for the downtrodden, farmers & backward class including the minority community as per the guidelines present in our Indian Constitution.

Speaking to Nasheman the Karnataka State President R A Janab further said, “We have full faith in the Constitution of India. Hence we will fight for the rights of the people of the Karnataka state as well as for the people of the country. All the political parties have been claiming to do the same since India got its independence but to no avail. In fact they have seriously let us down. Today each & every political leader claims to be following the same path but we assure everyone that we will definitely bring the requisite change in the rampantly corrupt nation.”

“Our National President & founder P P John of the Secular Democratic Congress (SDC) party is now all set to contest from the Waynad seat from the district of Kerala against AICC President Rahul Gandhi and the reason for his decision to contest from the Waynad seat is to bring awareness amongst the voters of the district to vote for a person of local standing & not to a person also standing from another seat that too from another state.”

Karnatakna State President Mr R A Janab with National President Mr P P John

“So it is but natural that we intend to curb the practice of such candidates contesting from 2 different seats mainly for 2 reasons 1) The candidate of one particular seat must have lost his so called confidence after winning the seat or maybe he must have definitely not worked in his winning constituency. This is one of the reasons for his looking out for greener pastures or maybe because he has succeeded in deceiving the innocent & gullible voters of his winning constituency. 2) After having won from both the constituency maybe he has to resign from 1 constituency & by doing so he will be certainly deceiving the voters of his resigning constituency. And thereby he will be putting an extra burden on the ex-chequer as well as the poor tax payer’s money which may again be used for holding another election.”

R A Janab further averred that he along with P P John as well as his party workers will be writing to the Election Commissioner to ban such candidates contesting from more than 1 seats right in the initial stage itself. And we are also sure that P P John will certainly win the election with a full-fledged majority from his Waynad Constituency in Kerala.

WhatsApp stops strangers from adding you to groups now

April 3, 2019 by Nasheman

New Delhi (Agencies): WhatsApp has rolled out new privacy settings, which includes an invite system for groups. The new features give users more control over which groups they want to join.

Users will now need to approve whether they are interested in joining a group on WhatsApp to which they have been invited.

The new invite system means that users can choose to be added to only groups for which an invite has been sent by their contact. The user will have the option of approving whether to join a group or not, which was not the case before.

A group invite will be sent through private chat and users will have three days to accept it. After three days, the invite expires. The invite will have details like the group name, its description and other group members.

To enable the feature, users can head to the Settings menu in WhatsApp and then tap Account > Privacy > Groups. There are three options to choose from: “Nobody,” “My Contacts,” or “Everyone.”

If a user selects “Nobody”, then they will need to approve before being added into any group. With the “My Contacts” option, only contacts in the user’s address book can add them to groups.

The new privacy settings have started rolling out to some users and will be more widely available in the coming weeks. Users will need to update their WhatsApp app to the latest version to access this feature.

The invite system was long-awaited as users will now be able to decline being added to groups they do not wish to join. The feature will also help curb the spread of misinformation on the platform, especially fake news that is targeted to a large number of people at once through groups.

Fact-checking service to fight fake news added

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, to curb the spread of misinformation, WhatsApp on Tuesday launched a fact-checking service in India.

According to Reuters, the internet-based instant messaging platform in a press release said that it has tied up with Indian startup Proto and two other organisations, Dig Deeper Media and Meedan, for the service called Checkpoint Tipline.

Users can send messages, including images, video and text in English, Hindi, Telugu, Bengali and Malayalam. The tip line will classify the messages as true, false, misleading or disputing. The number is 919643000888.

This initiative is one of those few taken by WhatsApp, ahead of the elections, which will be held from April 11 to May 19. Earlier, the platform was in news when it tried its best to stop spread of misinformation. It had imposed a limit of five on the number of times a message could be forwarded on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp owner Facebook on Monday had announced that it had removed more than 1,000 pages from India and Pakistan that it claimed were displaying ‘coordinated inauthentic behaviour’. Several pro-Bharatiya Janata Party and pro-Congress pages too were removed in the process, it claimed.

MI vs CSK: MS Dhoni 2 runs away from personal landmark

April 3, 2019 by Nasheman

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has been an iconic figure in both the Indian cricket team as well as for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise.

Dhoni has guided India to the 2007 T20 World Cup triumph and then led them to the 50-over World Cup win in 2011 to become the first Indian skipper with two world cup victories under his belt.

On the domestic circuit he has been equally influential, guiding Chennai Super Kings to all three of their IPL titles so far. The iconic wicketkeeper-batsman, who is hugely influential as a skipper, is closing on a personal landmark as his side prepare to take on the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.

Dhoni has amassed 3998 runs in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings and with two more runs against Mumbai Indians, he will become only the second batsman from the Chennai franchise to achieve the 4000-run landmark.

The veteran batsman is second only to Suresh Raina in CSK’s list of all-time run scorers. Raina has amassed 5071 runs from his 174 matches, while Dhoni’s 3998 runs have come from 172 games at a remarkable average of 41.21 and a strike rate of 140.52. He has a highest score of 79 not out.

The 37-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down and helped propel CSK’s total from 115/4 from 17 overs to a remarkable 175/5 with some vintage hitting in the final 3 overs of the match.

With Dhoni striking it so well, he is expected to go past the personal landmark with ease when his side face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday
