Ye ‘PUBG’ wala hai kya? Modi asks parent

January 30, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : Interacting with students and their parents at the ‘Pariksha pe Charcha 2.0’ event here on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s snappy and witty answers left the audience in splits.

In an instance where a mother raised concerns about her son being too involved in online games, Modi asked her: “Ye PUBG wala hai kya?”

The question led to thunderous applause among the audience.

Modi highlighted that technology comes with its good and bad aspects depending on what side of it the children explore.

The Prime Minister also emphasised that if parents try to make efforts, children would hopefully move back to the playground from the playstation.

Launched in December 2017, PlayersUnknown Battleground (PUBG) is an online, multi-player battle game that connects users from around the world in real-time and allows them to fight missions, and is known to indulge players into long hours of gaming.

Rahul’s ‘thrust and hug’ strategy overshadows ailing Parrikar’s return to assembly

January 30, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday re-enacted his ‘thrust and hug’ policy once again, this time in Goa, when he suddenly dropped in to pay a courtesy call to ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, just a day after he charged Parrikar with possessing “explosive files” related to the Rafale deal.

The move, which caught everyone including the media, the treasury benches as well as several Congress MLAs unawares, is similar to the drama which played out in Parliament in July, when after a rousing speech in which Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance government, the Congress president hugged a surprised Modi in the Lok Sabha and followed it up with a not-too-discreet wink.

While the Gandhi’s dexterous choreography took the attention away from the Congress losing the trust vote in Parliament, Rahul’s surprise visit to the Goa legislative assembly, ostensibly to pay a courtesy call to the ailing Chief Minister on Tuesday, potentially pulls the attention away from the day’s biggest story: Parrikar’s dramatic return to the state legislative assembly in the midst of his battle against cancer.

There was speculation as to whether the visibly unwell Parrikar would attend the ongoing three-day budget session. When Parrikar walked into the assembly on Tuesday, with medical appendage strapped to him, the former Defence Minister had to be helped to his seat in the state assembly by marshals, who also helped him stand up to bid the Governor Mridula Sinha farewell after she delivered her formal address to legislators.

According to state Congress president Girish Chodankar, the meeting with Parrikar at the state assembly complex, was in keeping with Rahul Gandhi’s politics of dealing with all with love, compassion and no ill-will even to the political adversaries.

“It is not just a courtesy call but one of care and concern and mirrors our party’s ideology of believing in politics of compassionate behaviour with humanity and society at heart,” state Congress president Girish Chodankar said.

On Monday, a tweet by Gandhi, who is holidaying in Goa with his mother Sonia, in which he said that Parrikar had a hold over Modi, because he posses explosive document related to the Rafale deal had stoked controversy.

The state Congress president also alluded to Gandhi’s hug in Parliament.

“You may recall that our president had even hugged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament, passing on the message that Congress knows to spread love even to the arch political rivals. That is why despite being on a private visit, our national president managed to take time off to meet him,” Chodankar said.

Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali issued ED notice

January 30, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : The Enforcement Directorate has issued a show-cause notice to Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for allegedly violating foreign exchange rules involving Rs 2 crore, officials said on Wednesday.

The notice, issued on Monday, has been served in a case that pertains to the seizure of undeclared US dollars from him at the Delhi airport in 2011. Khan lives in Pakistan.

“The show-cause notice has been served to Khan for violation of foreign exchange rules,” an ED official said.

The ED has registered a case under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) on the basis of a case filed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

On February 13, 2011, Khan was going to attend a music programme from India to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Khan, a popular Bollywood playback singer, who was in Delhi to perform at an Indo-Pakistan peace initiative, was to board an Emirates flight to Karachi via Dubai with his entourage of 14 persons.

He was detained at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for travelling with undeclared currency to the tune of $300,000 US dollar (around Rs 2.10 crore) along with Pakistani and Indian currency, the ED official said.

The DRI then said that Khan had not declared the amount to the immigration authorities.

As per rules, a foreign national cannot carry more than $5,000 in cash and $5,000 in other instruments. In the event he has more cash, he has to declare it to the Customs Department.

Khan was unable to give a proper response regarding the source of the money and he also did not show any relevant documents for the same.

According to the DRI sources, Khan was paid in Indian rupees and dollars for his shows in India.

The ED had earlier questioned Khan a number of times.

A case under FEMA is not considered a criminal case. Even the accused is not arrested but if the charges are proven, then the agency can impose heavy fines of up to three hundred times of the said amount.

The 45-year-old nephew of Pakistani singing legend late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was earlier also involved in a controversy when organisers of a concert in Gurugram filed a police complaint against him in July 2010 for his failure to turn up for a show.

January 30, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News :  The Sensex on Wednesday opened over 200 points higher while the Nifty reclaimed the 10,700 mark owing to strong gains in banking stocks.

The BSE Banking index gained over 1 per cent.

However, investors would be cautious ahead of the third quarter results of key companies — Bajaj Auto, ICICI Bank, LIC Housing Finance, NTPC — to be announced later in the day.

Also, investors across the globe will take cues from the key US-China trade talks to begin later in the day.

The S&P BSE Sensex opened over 200 points higher at 35,819.67 from its previous close of 35,592.50.

At 9.16 a.m., the Sensex traded 155.67 points or 0.44 per cent higher at 35,748.17.

The broader Nifty also opened higher at 10,702.25 from its Tuesday’s close of 10,652.20. It traded 51.75 points or 0.49 per cent up at 10,703.95.

Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL) stocks continued to witness heavy selling pressure.

Shares of the housing finance institution, fell over 6 per cent to Rs 159.70 per shares in the morning trade session.

The shares of DHFL tanked on Tuesday after Cobrapost, a news website claimed that primary promoters of DHFL siphoned off over Rs 31,000 crore of public money.

ICC Women’s Championship: Mandhana stars as India thrash New Zealand

January 30, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : Jhulan Goswami’s 3/23 and half-centuries by Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj helped India thrash New Zealand by eight wickets and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ICC Women’s Championship one-day international series here on Tuesday.

Like the first match, New Zealand struggled against India’s bowlers. Apart from Amy Satterthwaite, who scored a gritty 71 runs, no other batswomen contributed handsomely as Goswami led the charge and restricted the hosts to a modest 161 at the Bay Oval here, according to an ICC release.

Coming in to bat, India’s Mandhana (90 not out) dominated the proceedings, forging an impressive 151-run partnership with Mithali Raj (63 not out off 111) for the third wicket.

But the victory was set up by the bowlers. Goswami’s opening over accounted for Suzie Bates for a duck, and that was a big blow for New Zealand. Then, Shikha Pandey trapped Sophie Devine in front for seven.

When Ekta Bisht removed Lauren Down and Amelia Kerr for 15 and 1 respectively, the hosts were left tottering at 38/4. Maddy Green looked to knuckle down with her captain, but fell to Poonam Yadav after a 28-ball 9.

Satterthwaite took the lead and stitched together a relatively brisk 58-run stand with Leigh Kasperek before finally being dismissed by Yadav. There were some handy contributions from the lower order, but Goswami helped end the resistance, dismissing Kasperek and Lea Tahuhu for 21 and 12 respectively.

Goswami finished with 3/23, while Bisht, Deepti Sharma and Yadav chipped in with two wickets each.

India’s chase had a rather wobbly start, though, with Anna Peterson and Tahuhu accounting for Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma early. Unfortunately for the hosts, that was all the success they were allowed.

Mandhana just picked up from where she had left off in the first ODI, when she had scored her fourth century in the format. Once again, she scored freely and found a solid partner in captain Raj at the other end.

Raj scored relatively slowly, but hit a couple of sixes off Kasperek, and as the target came in sight she too scored boundaries more regularly.

Mandhana remained unbeaten and her knock featured 13 fours and a six. Raj scored 63 from 111 deliveries, including two sixes and four fours. Her second six brought the winning runs for India.

With the win, India have moved to No.2 on the Championship table, on 12 points after 11 games, ahead of New Zealand on net run-rate.

I-League: Mohun Bagan to play for pride against struggling Gokulam

January 30, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : Their slim chances of getting back into title reckoning now almost gone, a deflated Mohun Bagan will look to salvage pride when they take on relegation-threatened Gokulam Kerala FC in an I-League encounter at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here on Wednesday.

Mohun Bagan suffered their second successive derby defeat on Sunday against arch-rivals East Bengal in a match where they were totally outplayed.

Khalid Jamil’s men, placed sixth in the points table having 21 points from 14 games, will now look to gather the maximum points from the remaining fixtures and finish in a respectable position. They are nine points adrift of league leaders Chennai City FC.

“We are not thinking about the past. The last match was not up to the mark, but we must go ahead,” Jamil told reporters here.

Asked about the club’s target now, Jamil said: “We will take one match a time. I can’t think too far ahead now. All I can say is tomorrow’s match is very important.”

Jamil conceded that East Bengal were the “hungrier” side on Sunday and they need to learn from their mistakes.

“It’s not difficult to motivate the players. They are professionals and are ready for tomorrow’s game.

“East Bengal were the hungrier side. We should learn from the next game and move on.”

Mohun Bagan will be without star midfielder Yuta Kinowaki who suffered a calf injury minutes before the derby kick-off.

Sukhdev Singh and Sourav Das are also doubtful for the Gokulam tie while defender Arijit Bagui and midfielder Shilton D’Silva are expected to start.

Coming to the visitors, Gokulam are currently in the tenth position with 11 points from 13 matches. They have won only two matches this season and have been subject to several changes in the middle of the season.

After Antonio German, defender Fabrizio Ortiz left the club midway through the season.

There was also an addition in the coaching department as Gift Raikhan left Aizawl FC to join the Southern club as their technical director.

“We are fighting for relegation. So the motivation is high. We need three points very badly,” Raikhan told reporters.

Raikhan brought in former Neroca FC midfielder Fabien Vorbe in place of Ortiz.

The Haitian central midfielder has already joined the side and has travelled with the team to Kolkata to face Mohun Bagan.

After Raikhan came on board, Gokulam managed a 1-1 draw against defending champions Minerva Punjab in their last match.

In their last meeting, Gokulam managed to hold Mohun Bagan to a 1-1 draw in their first match of the season in Kozhikode.
