2.0′ delivers global message, says Akshay Kumar

November 27, 2018 by Nasheman

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar says his upcoming film ‘2.0’ attempts to convey a global message on climate change.

“There is a moment in the story that emphasizes the other living creatures on planet earth. It says that the planet not only belongs to the human race but also to animals and birds,” said the ‘Padman’ actor during a media interaction on Monday.

“Though animals and plants cannot raise their voice against human beings, they have the right to live. So do not spoil the mother nature,” he said.

The film is a sequel of ‘Enthirana’ released in 2010 and written and directed by S Shankar. It featured Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Akshay is working with Shankar for the first time. “We used to speak in Marathi on the sets and we used to enjoy that. Shankar is a brilliant director to work with and he is a very humble man. It was so interesting to see how he would add a quirk of entertainment in any or every dialogue of our daily conversation.”

“He is a very professional person. He narrated me the whole story, the screenplay and I knew each character of the film from the beginning. I was impressed by the concept and wondered why nobody has explored the subject so far,” said Akshay

The film that reportedly had a budget of Rs 543 crore is considered the most expensive film of India made in 3D.

The actor urges the audience to watch the film in 3D at the theatre.

“This film is not converted into a 3D film after shooting, but originally shot in 3D format and therefore the whole experience was different for us. It will be a unique experience for the audience as well,” said the actor.

The trailer of the film was released on November 3.

Asked if the extensive use of technology would overpower the core story of the film, Akshay said, “I do not think so. I would rather say that the use of technology has enhanced the narration. The global message of the film comes across crystal clear.”

‘2.0’ is releasing on November 29.

India asks Pakistan to give up double standards, says Mumbai attack planners should be punished

November 27, 2018 by Nasheman

In a strong attack on the tenth anniversary of the 26/11 terror strikes, India on Monday asked Pakistan to give up its “double standards” and to expeditiously bring the perpetrators to justice, saying its planners still roamed the streets of the neighbouring country with impunity.

India also welcomed the statement issued by the United States on Monday calling on Pakistan to uphold their UN Security Council obligations to implement sanctions against the terrorists responsible for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, including Lashkar-e-Taiba and its affiliates.

In a statement, the External Affairs Ministry said it was a matter of deep anguish that even after 10 years of the heinous terror attack, the families of 166 victims from 15 countries across the globe still await closure, with Pakistan showing little sincerity in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“The planners of 26/11 still roam the streets of Pakistan with impunity. The 26/11 terrorist attack was planned, executed and launched from Pakistan territory.” the statement said.

It referred to the remarks of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that Pakistan-based non-state actors or militant organisations played a role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

“The former Prime Minister of Pakistan had earlier this year admitted that the terrorists were sent from Pakistan’s soil. We once again call on the Government of Pakistan to give up double standards and to expeditiously bring the perpetrators of the horrific attack to justice.

“This is not just a matter of Pakistan’s accountability to the families of the innocent victims who fell to terrorists, but also an international obligation,” the ministry said.

It said the Indian government will continue its efforts to bring justice to the families of the victims and the martyrs.

The External Affairs Ministry statement said that the government and the people of India sombrely remember the victims of the dastardly attack and the martyred security personnel who laid down their lives.

It said that President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, in separate messages, have expressed their firm solidarity with the families of the victims and martyrs.

A solemn memorial event and wreath laying ceremony was organised on Monday by the Maharashtra government at the Police Memorial in Mumbai and the Memorial at Taj Hotel, Mumbai.

The Indian missions in fourteen other countries, which lost their nationals in these attacks, organised memorial events remembering the victims, both national and foreign, reminding the world of the global threat of terrorism.

Senior government representatives from the host governments, family members of victims and survivors participated in the solemn events.

Timed for the tenth anniversary of the 2008 Mumbai attack on Monday, the US government has announced a $5 million bounty covering all the terrorists connected with it.

The reward offered under the State Department’s Rewards for Justice (RFJ) Programme is for “any individual who committed, conspired to commit, or aided or abetted in the execution” of the attack that killed 166 people, a Department media note said on Sunday.

This is the third RFJ bounty from the State Department on terrorists involved in the Mumbai attack carried out by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) as it casts a wider net beyond its leaders.

Congress should have given Vajpayee Bharat Ratna: Farooq Abdullah

November 27, 2018 by Nasheman

Lamenting that the political discourse in the country has hit a new low, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah said on Monday that the Congress, rather than the BJP-led NDA, should have conferred the Bharat Ratna on late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The former Prime Minister was given the country’s highest civilian award in 2015 at his residence months after NDA came to power.

Abdullah was referring to speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that his linguistic behaviour is unbecoming of the prime minister.

He said Modi is using foul language against India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru as well as other leaders such as Indira Gandhi.

“Has he forgotten what Nehru did for the country? Has he forgotten what Indira Gandhi did for this country — she gave her life for the nation.

“If we are here, it is because of the legacy that has been passed on to us. His (Modi’s) conduct is just not becoming of the prime minister. I have never referred to my mother in my political speeches. What is he doing?” Abdullah asked.

He then praised Atal Bihari Vajpayee and recalled a personal conversation with the former prime minister where he praised Nehru.

Abdullah said that Vajpayee, even as he came from the RSS background, understood the fact that the nation could not be run by one man.

“But one mistake that the Congress made was not presenting him with the Bharat Ratna. He was worthy of it,” Abdullah said in the presence of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

He was participating in a panel discussion following the launch of “Fables of Fractured Times” by former minister in Singh’s cabinet Manish Tewari.

We went wrong: Aamir Khan on ‘Thugs…’ failure

November 27, 2018 by Nasheman

Actor Aamir Khan has taken full responsibility for the debacle of ‘Thugs Of Hindustan’, and has apologised to the audience for not being able to entertain them even though the team tried hard to give the high budget film its best shot.

Aamir interacted with the media at the second edition of Cinestaan India’s Storyteller Script Contest 2018 along with writers Juhi Chaturvedi and Anjum Rajabali here.

Acknowledging the failure of ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’, in which he united with megastar Amitabh Bachchan for the first time, Aamir said: “I think we went wrong and I would like to take full responsibility for that. We tried very hard to make a good film and we didn’t hold back from putting in our entire effort, but somewhere or the other we went wrong.

“There are people who have liked the film and we are thankful to them, but they are in a minority. Most people didn’t like our film — we are aware of that.”

Over the years, Aamir Khan has had a loyal audience which he has earned through films like ‘Taare Zameen Par’, ‘Ghajini’, ‘3 Idiots;, and ‘PK’.

“I want to apologise to my audience also as this time I wasn’t able to entertain them. I know people came in theatres with a lot of expectations but they didn’t enjoy the film.

“Audience is free to say what they feel about the film. What I can say is that we certainly tried our level best and I am feeling really bad that we didn’t succeed in entertaining the audience. So, next time we will try harder.”

Produced by Aditya Chopra under his banner Yash Raj Films and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the film was one of the most anticipated Bollywood movie this year. It was widely panned by the audience and critics.

Asked if he had an intuition about the film’s failure before it released, Aamir said: “I don’t feel comfortable to talk about all these things publicly because when I am doing a film, I feel really close to it. It is like our own child, so if the film hasn’t succeeded to leave its mark, then also it will remain like my child.”

Aamir’s other two releases ‘Dangal’ and ‘Secret Superstar’ did phenomenal business in China.

What are his expectations from “Thugs…” in the country?

“The China release will be happening next month, so let’s see what happens,” he said.
