DySP’s alleged suicide rocks Karnataka Assembly

July 12, 2016 by Nasheman

DySP Ganapathi

Bengaluru: The alleged suicide by Mangaluru DySP M K Ganapathy on Monday rocked the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, with the Opposition demanding resignation of minister K J George and action against two senior police officers named by the officer in his suicide note.

Launching an all out attack against government, BJP and JD(S) accused it of trying to “cover up” the case by handing over the investigation to state CID and questioning Ganapathy’s mental health even before the probe.

Ganapathy (51) was found hanging from the ceiling fan in a room at a lodge in Madikeri on July seven.

As the House met, Opposition BJP Leader Jagadish Shettar demanded that the issue be discussed first and Minister for Bengaluru Development George should resign.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the issue was serious and “every one’s life is important, it is unfortunate that this incident has happened. This is a serious issue; Home Minister will make suo motu statement”, he said.

Objecting to this, Opposition members said they be allowed to raise the issue first and George must resign.

Shettar said, “By making a statement even before the discussion government is showing how much serious it is about the issue. It is an attempt to cover up the issue.”

Intervening, Speaker K B Koliwad said the issue will be taken up for discussion, but he will allow Home Minister to make the statement first.

This angered the opposition members with BJP and JD(S) MLAs entering the well of the House and shouting slogans against the government calling it “a murderer”.

Amidst pandemonium, Home Minister G Parameshwara read out a statement saying Ganapathy’s father Kushalappa in his complaint had said his son was under depression as he had family issues especially with his wife.

“When Ganapathy was working in Bengaluru his wife and children were in Mangaluru. After he was promoted and transferred as DySP to Mangaluru she continued ill treating him, because of this my son was under depression. Losing hopes in life, he has committed suicide,” Parameshwara said quoting from Kushalappa’s complaint in his statement.

Vested interests creating anti-Muslim feeling: CM Pinarayi

July 12, 2016 by Nasheman

PINARAYI VIJAYAN

Thiruvananthapuram: Saying terrorists have no religion, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said an entire community should not be blamed for the alleged links of some with the IS.

Extremist activities cannot be attributed to any particular religion alone, the Communist Party of India-Marxist leader told the assembly.

“Vested interests are creating an anti-Muslim feeling,” Vijayan cautioned. “This will not be allowed as a huge majority in our society is against such activities.

“It’s a very small segment which does this. To blame one particular community alone is not fair,” he said.

The Chief Minister spoke after three legislators raised media reports about several Keralites reportedly going missing to join the Islamic State.

Vijayan said the government would not be able to tackle the problem on its own.

“There has to be an overall awareness against terrorism and extremism and we need to take everyone into confidence.

“The state government will do its job and will work in tandem with the Centre to probe these reports,” he said.

According to Vijayan, 21 people, including children, were missing and this included 17 from Kasargode district, in the northern tip of Kerala, and four from Palakkad district.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said: “Overall Kerala is known to be a peaceful state. Even though we have no confirmation (that people are missing), it is disturbing and the need of the hour is to strengthen internal security and all of us would like to know the truth.”

Congress legislator P.T. Thomas pointed out a lady from his constituency was missing. She was working in Mumbai and had reportedly attended meetings in Andheri and was reported to be with the IS now, Thomas said.

“One way to bring an instant impact against these subversive forces is to see that this topic is introduced in schools in our state,” he said.

The Kerala Police and central intelligence agencies are said to be probing the issue, taking down statements from families which have alleged that their family members have gone missing.

Media can convert a hero into villain: Read Dr Zakir Naik’s full statement

July 12, 2016 by Nasheman

zakir naik

Expressing shock over the hate campaign, false allegations and media trial against him in the wake of recent terrorist attack in Dhaka, Dr Zakir Naik, the most sought after Islamic orator, has issued a written statement to the press reiterating that he never supported terrorism or violence in any form whatsoever.

Dr Naik had earlier planned for a press conference on Skype from Saudi Arabia. However, after a few major India TV channels tried to twist his recent statements, the 51-year-old orator, who founded the Islamic Research Foundation in 1991, changed his mind and released the written statement.

Read Dr Zakir Abdul Karim Naik’s full statement below:

“According to me, the media is the most important weapon in the world. It can convert a hero into villain or even a villain into a hero.

I’m shocked at the media trial on me regarding the recent terrorist attack that took place in Dhaka Bangladesh on 1st July 2016. Most of the clips shown on the television of myself are either out of context, half statements or doctored. So are my statements in the print media.

I would have loved to give interviews whether for television channels or for the print media, but I fear that most of them will not publish it unedited or without twisting it. I came to this conclusion after I had given a few interviews, most of which were unfortunately mutilated and misutilised to serve the vested agenda of the channel or the newspaper.

If time permits, God willing, in the next few days I will give replies to some of the major allegations on video and give it to the media as well as put it up on social media as well as other public platforms so that the original answers are also available if the media misutilises it.

So far not a single official Indian government agency has contacted me for any clarification regarding this issue. It would be my pleasure to cooperate with any official Indian government investigation agency for any information they might require from me.

In conclusion, I repeat what I have always maintained –   I DO NOT SUPPORT TERRORISM OR VIOLENCE in any form whatsoever. I have never supported any terrorist organisations and have mentioned this over and over again in thousands of my public talks worldwide. I STRONGLY CONDEMN anyone taking my statements out of context and using it for VIOLENCE OF ANY FORM.”

Yours Sincerely,

Dr Zakir Naik

Relief for Sonia, Rahul in National Herald case as HC denies documents to Swamy

July 12, 2016 by Nasheman

sonia-rahul-gandhi

New Delhi: In a big relief to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald Case, the Delhi High Court today set aside trial court’s order summoning documents from the ministries of finance and corporate Affairs and other agencies and balance sheet of the party for 2010-2011.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had moved the high court to get access to the documents submitted my the ministry of corporate affairs, ministry of finance and other department in the matter. Congress leaders had challenged the order.

Swamy had told the high court that he needs access to the documents for arguments in the case.

A Delhi Court had on March 11 given its nod to Swamy’s plea, seeking the balance sheets of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Associated Journals Pvt Limited (AJL) for the purpose of investigation in this case.

What is National Herald case

Swamy had accused Sonia, Rahul and others of conspiring to cheat and misappropriate funds by just paying Rs 50 lakh by which Young Indian Pvt Ltd.obtained the right to recover Rs 90.25 crore which the AJL had owed to the Congress.

Besides the Congress president and her son, Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda are the other accused in this case.

Maha Intelligence Dept. gives clean chit to Dr Zakir Naik, no arrest on return to India

July 12, 2016 by Nasheman

zakir naik

Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Intelligence Department (SID) has given a clean chit to Dr Zakir Naik as it found no strong evidence to link the founder and president of the Islamic Research Foundation to terror-related activities.

SID, who was handling the investigation of the Dr. Zakir Naik case ordered by the Maharashtra government found no reason to register a case against the televangelist for now and will not and cannot be detained the preacher on his return to India based on the evidence against him, said a report on Tuesday.

The SID, as a part of his preliminary probe, has studied hundreds of YouTube videos and speeches given by Dr. Naik in and out of India and concluded that no case can be made out against him, except the charge of hurting religious sentiments.

“There is no case to be made out against the English-speaking preacher, except maybe the possible charge of hurting religious sentiments, but even that cannot be established from his speeches. We are tracking his movements and only if he speaks out of turn, can we ‘pin’ him down on a charge. For now, we are closely monitoring him,” a senior police official was quoted as saying by the Hindu.
The founder of Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation became the centre of a controversy after reports emerged that perpetrators of the Dhaka terror attack were inspired by the preacher.

Shiv Sena has demanded arrest of Naik on his landing in India and dismantling of his TV network.

Meanwhile,Samajwadi Party Maharashtra unit President Abu Azmi came in support of Naik and sought to know why action has not been taken for the last 25 years if his speeches are inspiring terrorists, and called for a fair inquiry into charges against him.

Euro 2016: Portugal crowned champions after Cristiano Ronaldo goes off injured

July 11, 2016 by Nasheman

Stade de France: Portugal gatecrashed France’s Euro 2016 party to win the European Championship for the first time in its history — and all this without leading star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid forward was forced out of the game with a knee injury in the first half, but Portugal regrouped and thanks to some heroic goalkeeping from Rui Patricio took the game into extra time before Eder struck with 11 minutes to go.

Portugal’s 1-0 win was all the more remarkable given in their previous 10 meetings — France had won all of them.

“Simple as doves and as wise as serpents,” is how Portugal coach Fernando Santos characterized his team’s success at Euro 2016.

France hit the post late on in normal time, but so too did Portugal just before Eder’s goal when Raphael Guerreiro’s exquisite free kick came back off the crossbar.
The win was testament to a remarkable group ethic after Ronaldo was taken off on a stretcher following a robust tackle by Dimitri Payet on eight minutes.
Twice Ronaldo tried to hobble back on the pitch before he collapsed, distraught and in tears as he conceded his tournament had come to a premature end.
The huge ovation he was given by the Stade de France crowd — French and Portuguese fans alike — must have been scant consolation given the pivotal role he has played in this side for over a decade since making his international debut as an 18-year-old.
“Terrible to see Cris come off like that,” tweeted Ronaldo’s Real Madrid teammate Gareth Bale and no wonder given many had billed this as the crowning moment of Ronaldo’s career as an international player.
Twelve years ago he was also left in tears after Euro 2004 host Portugal was surprisingly beaten 1-0 by Greece.
True, France might have been favorites to win this final given its home advantage, but this was a real opportunity for Ronaldo to showcase his talents in an international final and add to the countless starring roles he has produced for Real Madrid.
In the end given the prodigious efforts of his teammates it didn’t matter and Ronaldo, despite his injury, was well enough to jump up off the bench to join in the celebrations when Eder scored.
Portugal’s fans certainly hadn’t forgotten their talisman and as the clock ticked down they chanted his name again and again.
With Ronaldo out of the picture, Patricio was consistently on hand to thwart France, notably in saving a couple of fierce shots from Moussa Sissoko, who had an outstanding game.
Central defenders Pepe — named man of the match — and Jose Ponte were also key to Portugal’s defensive obdurateness.
Pepe described Portugal’s win as a victory of the “humble,” while France coach Didier Deschamps paid tribute to the victors’ organization.
“The winner always deserves it,” said France coach Didier Deschamps. “You can analyze things but they didn’t get to the final by chance.
“This is the first time I think that a team finished third in their group and ended up as champions.”
Portugal coach Santos added: “I always said we were a team. I told them we have a lot of quality and talent. But first we have to run and fight.”

Shami gets Rs 2.2 crore for loss of pay in IPL 2015

July 11, 2016 by Nasheman

Shami

Mumbai: India and Bengal pace bowler Mohammed Shami has been paid a compensation of over Rs 2.2 crore last month for having missed the 2015 Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to a knee injury despite which he played in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

As per the BCCI’s June, 2016 payments of over Rs 25 lakh, available on bcci.tv, Shami was paid Rs 2,23,12,500 for “Loss of pay for IPL season 2015 due to injury.”

Shami had played in the entire World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand and in the preceding Test series in the former country with pain.He was among the leading bowlers for the country in the mega event and played a crucial role in India reaching the semi finals of the World Cup.

The decision to play despite an injury cost him heavily as he was unable to play in the 2015 IPL season and underwent a surgery. The BCCI has now compensated the 25-year-old UP-born paceman for his dedication to the country’s cause. In the World Cup, he picked up 17 wickets in five games and was the fifth-best bowler in the competition.

Shami, who later suffered a hamstring injury when India visited Australia in January this year and missed the Asia Cup T20 championship, is now in the West Indies as a member of the Virat Kohli-led squad that is to engage the hosts in a four-Test rubber.

Among other details put up by the BCCI are amounts paid as match fees for officials for this year’s IPL and the list includes former Test fast bowler Javagal Srinath (Rs 26 lakh) and ex-Kerala Ranji Trophy leg spinner K N Ananthapadmanabhan (Rs 26 lakh).

Several cricket associations affiliated to the BCCI, including permanent Test centres Mumbai CA, Cricket Association of Bengal and Tamil Nadu CA, have been given varying amounts exceeding Rs 25 lakh as their dues.
